I saw this for the first time in 2013 as a young high school student and thought it was just another good film. Then my dad passed away in 2017. I watched it again several months after that and this scene made me cry buckets because I wish I had that extra time. And here I am, watching these scenes again from time to time if I really miss him.

Today, I just lost my dad. This is our first night without him. And this scene just reminds me of our “extra time” together, all the games we’ve played, all the places we went to, all the memories we’ve shared. I just wished that I have the ability to time travel as well, so that I can replay those memories anytime I want, I wish I can be stuck in a loophole of those memories forever.

This scene was just heartbreaking. Probably never felt so connected with the characters in a movie. I still have my dad, he is 67 now. Since I moved out of my parental home I return in the weekends so we can work on old cars together, and he helps me with my newest project an old house . Really can’t think of a life without him, without his advice and his general life attitude which is just inspiring . Sometimes it’s just hurts to see him get old.

I saw this movie several years ago, right after my son was born. My dad was still alive at the time, and this scene above all others wrecked me emotionally. Then my dad died from Covid in late 2020, and I haven’t been able to get myself to watch the movie or this scene again until today. I’m struggling to put into words how it makes me feel. I don’t know if I relate to the father or son more now. I wasn’t able to see my dad for over a year before he passed, and that fills me with regrets. I know it meant a lot to him that he finally had a grandson, and I wish he could have seen my boy - and now my baby girl too - growing up. I struggle with this scene too because he and I didn’t have the kind of relationship that is depicted in the movie. We weren’t estranged by any means, but we butted heads quite a lot since I was a teenager. But still, I miss him and I wish I could ask his advice often. I think watching this scene is opening the floodgates of emotions that I haven’t released since he passed. Damn I’m a blubbering mess right now.

This is beautiful for many reasons, but I can’t think of none better than this: We’re put on this earth for a reason, all of us. No matter what the reason is we have to realize that at any point something can change and someone who was put here to be in your life could be taken away from you. You never know when that could happen, but while we’re here or why they were here is they should make an impact on someone’s life. There have been a lot of people over the years who have made an impact on my life. The ones who are now gone live within me, I try to be the best person I can be every single day since they’re within me and I refuse to let them down.

Lost my father in 2008 and 1 month before he passed, we had a conversation over the phone (he was visiting family in Ecuador) about how I was going to finally take the crown for being the best in ping pong (we will play in the living room occasionally and he will win ALL THE TIME). As soon as he came back from Ecuador, he went straight to the hospital, he couldn’t even talk anymore, he lost so much weight and a week later, he passed on October 21, 2008. When I saw this scene at the movie theaters, I couldn’t hold back, I just started crying. It hurt so bad and it still does.

I watched this scene randomly on youtube long ago, I dont remember when, and it made me cry then, not a ton, but I thought it was a beautiful scene out of context none the less. I would read all the comments about everyone who had lost their dads, and they wish they could have spent more time with them. Well....sad to say I now join that party recently losing my father to colon cancer. It was really tough for me, because, he died on the day we had planned to take my 4 yr old son, his first grandchild, fishing for the first time. It was very eerie to think at the time when we were planning a date that it ended up being the day he would die. I have a memory with him like the scene in this movie, where when I was about 9 years old, when down the shore he took me to the lake at night and you could see every star in the sky. It would be chilly, and he would warm his hands up and make a small hole with his 2 hands clasped together and let me see through it at each star. It was almost like he was making a little telescope for me with his hands. I just loved it so much as a kid, I thought it was so cool. I would give like anything to just have 10 minutes of that moment again. I hate that he only got to see my son grow to 4 yrs old. I am terrified my son wont remember him. Really just try enjoy every minute you have with your parents, once they are gone thats it, you cant call or text, or hug or kiss em, cant plan anything, and its a real empty feeling. Emjoy it while it lasts because the memories with them you cant remember all of em, so enjoy the moments you have now

I remember being 5 crying in my bed cause I knew they’d be gone one day. I’m 29 now and thankfully I still have both of them. They’re getting up there now. Mid to late 60s. I obviously always knew their ages but a few weeks ago was the first time I really saw them as old. I’ve only ever viewed them as how they were when I was a child. Now I know I only have so long left and it’s killing me inside. I’m 29 and in pain cause I hurt myself at work. I’d give anything to be able to go back to a moment like this and just relive being a child with my parents.

I loved this scene when I first saw it in the theater… I have a 3 year old son now… Jesus!! This hit way harder than now but I still love it

Like so many others that have commented here I discovered this film after my dad had passed away. I truly believe the true gravity of this scene can only be fully comprehended by a son who has lost his father ( or guy who has lost a equivalent father figure ). Its one of 3 scenes from the film that are incredible poignant for me. When his wife asks for a third child and he has to make the choice between her and never seeing his dad again is soul-destroying! Lastly his revelation that he no longer time travels and instead tries to live each day to the best of his ability! A deeply meaningful message that I understand and appreciate immensely now that I don't think I could have even begun to before losing my dad!

I’d do anything for this time machine to walk the beach or mountain river one more time with my dad.

This is what the movie was all about. I loved Tim and Mary’s chemistry but I love Tim and his father’s relationship even more.

If I had this power I would just never have any kids and just go back in time to see my cats again.

I lost My dad 4 months ago. This scene would have been the same if we had known that it would be the last time. But I have to thank. Those last days were a little bit like this.
