Wow, out of all the KZbinrs I’ve seen react to this movie, you seem to “get” it more than any of them. I saw this in theaters and it immediately became one of my favorite movies. There’s so many geeky details it’s hard to catch them all, like the two instances of Zelda music (at the beginning you hear the intro for Link to the Past, and during the locker room dream sequence you hear Zelda’s Theme), the fact that the bands are named after NES games (Clash at Demonhead, Crash ‘n the Boys), and that the twins literally fight using Double Dragons.

The whole "Nega-Scott" part is REALLY important to Scott's personal arc. He's litterally accepted his negatives, the doubt he has in his heart, and all of the mistakes he's made in the past. Him not defeating his negative self is not a sign of weakness, him befriending it is a sign of self-acceptance.
@SMAAAASHTV

Not to mention it's a reference to the Legend of Zelda, which has a ton of references in the movie. In Zelda II: Adveture of Link You have to fight Dark Link at the end of the game, which is a completely black sprite that's just a silhouette of Link. In later games he has red eyes.

@@hiroprotagonitisI don’t think he’s a trash person. I think he’s just a nice guy who got thrown into a bunch of trash situations, and he doesn’t really know how to cope with that at all. He’s also kind of oblivious to stuff happening around him which only makes situations worse for him. I personally view nega scott being nice in the complete opposite way you do. I view it is a sign that deep down scott is just a really friendly guy and even the most negative part of him is kind of nice.

22:00 Funny detail from the comics to answer that question: The evil exes weren't started until after the seventh got dumped by Ramona. Gideon ranted about her online, and the other exes joined in. And that's how the League was started. A bunch of people Ramona broke up with ranting about her in a chat room and vowing to ruin her love life to make her get back with Gideon.

FUN FACT: The original ending of the movie had a more dramatic farewell between Scott and Ramona, then Scott getting back together with Knives. Bryan Lee O'Malley hadn't finished the comic yet, and an alternate ending was made to better reflect what the ending of the comic became (which of course became the theatrical ending). Both endings were shown to test audiences, and, in the commentary, Edgar Wright notes that older age groups tended to prefer the original Knives ending, while younger ones tended to prefer the Ramona ending.

I would definitely not have liked to see him end up with Knives because she's still 17 and he's 22. I think I agree with the people who said they'd rather he not wind up with either because I don't like the idea of Ramona being a literal prize to be won after Scott fights all those people. I mean, he earned the power of self-respect, but what about respect for others? But better Ramona than Knives.
@Tubemansi
@Tubemansi 2 жыл бұрын
@@kateiannacone2698 The age difference is a big deal at that point in their lives, because she's still in high school, but she's also legal...in Canada. Of course their relationship wasn't sexual at that point anyway, but it's only a 5-year gap. In 3 years, no one would think anything of it. Having said that, it IS made clear that Scott is just using Knives as a rebound...but it's also made clear how much he and Knives have in common, and how compatible they are ("You two make a good combo."). I see it as Scott failing on 2 fronts. Putting Ramona on a pedestal without considering her feelings, and neglecting Knives without realizing how good he has it with her.

I loved the comic series and couldn't wait for the film (this was peak Michael Cera and Edgar Wright era). But the marketing and exposure was terrible. I literally had to drag a couple friends to the theater because neither knew what the film was (they're both huge video game nerds, so they ended up loving it). I'm so glad the movie has worked its way into cult classic status, but I kind of wish it had hit the ground running at release. Also, cold >>>>>>> hot

Ah yes, I remember I kept seeing it on the promo shelf in Barnes and Noble, so I picked it up and read it. Her face at 14:32 was my face during those last 15 pages of that first graphic novel. It came so out of left field. I decided to look it up online and KZbin to see what people said, but all I got was a book review and a Plumtree music video. Then I saw they were making a movie, which was coming out in a year by the Shaun of the dead director. And Starring Michael ceramic, so. I figured it might be in good hands. It was 2009. Sad part was I had to wait a whole year. (2010) I avoided any news on it due to trauma from following the Dragonball evolution movie development news in 2008 🤣

If you noticed every ex does something that coincides with their number, like Patel covers 1 eye cuz he is ex number 1, Scott wore a shirt with Zero to symbolize he isn’t an evil ex, and the fantastic four 1/2 shirt Scott wore was after Roxy ex number 4 cuz Ramona said that he was an evil waiting so he was going to the dark side a little bit.
@41tinman41
@41tinman41 2 жыл бұрын
Lucas Lee pointed using two fingers. Todd wore a shirt with the number 3. Roxy fought Scott in a club called 4. Also four X chromosomes make two girls. The Katayanagi twins turn up their volume to 11, the sum of 5 and 6. Gideon complained about swallowing his gum, which he said would be in his intestines for 7 years (a myth.) Also, G is the seventh letter in the alphabet. Honestly, there are so many nods to the graphic novel in this movie that it's worth rewatching a whole bunch.

@robertmendoza4008
@robertmendoza4008 2 жыл бұрын
omg I been waiting for this my entire life, just to talk about this movie so... here you go 1. When Scott meets Ramona for the first time you can see the light switch so uncomfortably high as a way to visually show how uncomfortable the situation is, the same way that it would be really uncomfortable to turn off that light. 2. As Angelina falls in love with all this "swoops" and scene transitions, thats Edgar Wright's way to show love to the comics created by Bryan Lee O' Malley the original creator of Scott Pilgrim. 3. Edgar Wright is the type of director that's in love with details he dosen't care if you get to see them or not he will put them there anyway. 4. Michael Cera was the only actor at set that actually knew how to play his instrument, the bass, all the other actors had to learn how to play their instruments. 5. Famous artist Beck created a lot of Sex Bob-Ohm songs, the actors mention that they felt nervous to play the songs infront of Beck. 6. When a secen transition motions to the left, right, up or down you well very much, usually see the characters look or move to that direction as the transition is made, to make it feel like a comic. 7. The secen where Scott goes to pee wasn't made with any editing that's just one shot, the bathroom set was on wheels as Scott enters the bathroom they rotate the room to the next scene. 8. The scene where Scott signs for his package and throws it into the dumpster took like 50 something retrys to make, as Michael Cera kept on missing the dumpster. 9. Edgar Wright has a great love for music, you can also see it in Baby Driver, and you can very much see it here aswell the song that plays as Ramona and Scott kiss for the fist time is called By Your Side by Beachwood Sparks and if you read the lyrics of the song it very much talks about on what's gonna be the future for Scott and Ramona. 10. hmm... Scott's a menwhore and he has been a dick to pretty much everyone he has dated except for Envy. 11. And this is a long one maybe. But every single one of the members of the Evil League of Exes they all show characteristics that belong to their number for example: Matthew Patel is the first ex, he wears just one patch on his jacket and covers only one of his eyes. Lucas Lee being the second one has a tattoo with the number 2 on his neck and his shirt and merch has only 2 strips. I'll leave it at only those two but you can notice this type of stuff on every single ex. 12. Like every movie we have doubles for the main cast so they won't get hurt, but still Edgar Wright had the whole cast working out every morning so they would be limber, ready and in shape. 13. The doubles that you see on secen for Lucas Lee are actually Chirs Evans doubles. I'll leave it at 13 this is a great film and from great films like this and great directors like Edgar Wright you can get a thousand fun facts, I love everything that graces Edgar Wright touch, watch Baby Driver or any of the cornetto trilogy. I'm sorry if I had any typos english is very much not my first language, but I really love this film.

@KBTibbs

@@Ambaryerno Even more than that, they're trying to demonstrate that Scott is floating through life while barely interacting with it. ("You only played one note for that entire song.") The jump cuts are jarring, but feel cohesive. They're tied together by cool tricks like conserving direction of camera pan, hijacking the 180 rule, creating connecting lines of dialog to link the cuts together, etc. There's an illusionary through line to them, because Scott imagines he is actually living his life. More than just replicating the source material, these edits are here to specifically tell us about Scott, his mental state and his world.

You know this movie is based on the web-comic of the same name! Both are fairly good, but Scott in the comic is more satirical in his depiction of being a bit of selfish nerd where-as in the film its a lot lighter and more nuanced. I like them both a lot and I'm so glad you're reacting to this masterfully edited film!

@22:30 did you miss that Brie/Envy materializes out of her poster, with exactly the same outfit? This movie is amazing to watch and even better to rewatch. It's straight out of the comic. Since in comics characters very rarely are drawn with closed eyes, the director asked the actors not to blink during filming. Pay attention to that next time you watch the movie again.

Since you enjoyed the stylistic elements, dialogue, and cartoon intersitials, you might enjoy the original comics by Bryan Lee O’Malley-the movie draws heavily from them (except the last section with Gideon, which needed to be made up by the film team bc the series wasn’t done.) I think the comics also do a good job of rounding out secondary characters like Kim and deal more with Scott’s underlying jerk behaviour.

Is it really? :/ I watched like 75% of the first one and i disliked the writing and most of the characters so much. The first few minutes with Maya Hawke (love her) were great. But then it only got worse for me :( I've seen that Sadie Sink is in one of the other Fear Street Movies. Love her too. Does she have a more important role than Maya Hawke in the first movie? Are the later movies better than the first one?

It's probably been commented already but just so you know, this movie is based on the comic series Scott Pilgrim written and drawn by Bryan Lee O'Malley, and it is incredibly accurate to the source material. The drawings you see during some of the flashback/exposition are actually straight from the comic. And I highly recommend all of Edgar Wrights movie's, especially Baby Driver

I LOVE THIS! I LOVE THIS! I LOVE THIS REACTION! This is one of my all-time favorite movies and seeing others geek out over it like I do is everything! My first video I've seen on your channel and you got my sub! Hell yeah! Edit: Now after watching your whole reaction, a couple of cool things to note. The drawings during Matthew Patel's backstory (as well as the one of scott when mentioning his haircut) are all done in the style of the original comic book. There's a ton of video game references that I'm sure you caught, and a lot you might have missed. The movie definitely deserves a rewatch on your own to catch what you missed! As for some behind the scenes and blooper reel, this is a video I highly recommend: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4fSd4RqapalsLM I'm gonna go watch a bunch more of your vids now. Ciao!

Scott is lowkey the villain - for his treatment of Kim and Knives in particular, among some of his other toxic behaviors. It is reinforced three times in the script. Kim "or are you just evil?", Ramona "you're just another evil ex waiting to happen", and Scott himself (Nega-Scott, his opposite, is a 'great guy'). Doesn't detract from my enjoyment though and I love the style of this movie! Edgar Wright is one of the most creative directors working today. When you rewatch, pay attention to the number symbolism. Scott is always a 'zero'. The in movie comic scenes are done by the creator, Brian Lee O'Malley, and the whole series is done in that cute, almost chibi style. I recommend checking it out.

Yeah just because a character is a protagonist doesn't mean they are good. Although Scott does learn how to be a somewhat better person at the end of the movie.

The comic actually does a much better job of showing that Scott is not a good guy and a much better job of developing him becoming slightly better, but it still makes it clear that Scott is not a good guy.
