I'm tired of cancel culture, if you wanna see why it's getting problematic take a look at "art fixers" for example . So I draw elf characters(usually with a porcelain skin tone) and the other day one person copied my picture and made the Chara black and thick, then he reposted it as "here fixed your shit for u". So apparently I'm a racist and body shamer because I don't draw black, fat elves. I can't believe some people are giving themselves a pat on the back to stealing and "fixing" strangers art.

This ! The books kinda deconstruct both of them and in my opinion they really allow both of them to grow especially in the last two books when both Scott and Ramona have to face their demons and become better people because they struggle through them and overcome them . With Ramona it’s her running away when things start to get tough and facing her emotions and how she treats people though she realizes she’s a bad person . It’s the same thing with Scott but Scott kinda refuses to face this reality til later. Also I love the fact that Stephen still realizes he’s gag after he’s tired of dealing with julie’s crap for years and it’s literally one of Kim’s roommates lmao

While I have never read the comics personally I feel like the fact "evil" Scott was actually a pretty nice dude sums up that Scott himself really isnt that great of a person. It's called the right way to write an anti-hero. Someone who litterally seems anti-heroic in his own story. Not brooding for brooding's sake. Also, protagonist doesn't equal hero just like anatagonist doesn't equal villian. There are a more then a few stories out there that break that trope. The Joker movie for example, the protagonist is not only not a hero or anti-hero, he is a villian... A villian with sympathetic story, but villian just the same.

People just want their perfect fantasy instead of thinking. Never once does the story justifies what Scott did. Do they sometimes make it a gag or throw in some comedy? Yes. Can't forget that the movie was directed by a British guy. Just look at The Inbetweeners or The Office. I think part of it is some closet sexism against men. Trin especially has been becoming more sexist and so is her fan base. I don't think she is sexist, but has sexist tendency. Why do you would think she and her fans were okay for men, even innocent men, being killed by Megan Fox's character?

the whole point of the graphic novel is ramona and scott realizing how they’re both shitty people. ramona cheated on her exes and gets angry about scott, she makes out with roxy because she thinks scott is cheating on her with lisa (scott just ended up crying about how much he loved ramona and passing out on her couch). scott realizes he’s a douche that makes himself feel better about himself by forgetting everything and coming to terms with his fake memories/amnesia. the part where ramona straight up vanishes for months and scott goes back into a depression makes this more powerful especially when ramona talks about how she just vanished and went to her dad’s house to watch tv and do nothing instead of facing her own issues. ramona runs from all her problems while scott represses them and it’s not going to always be smooth sailing but they’re going to try their hardest to make things better. that’s what scott pilgrim should be about.

I mean, this whole movie, video game, and manga was created by Bryan Lee O’Malley. He is Korean and white and he went on to apologize for making the franchise “so white”. Also, most people know that Scott is a douchebag. There was a ending that they were going to go with and it was going to show Scott in his apartment watching the news where it talks about a Canadian man murdering 7 people. Then you would hear sirens in the back and it would cut there. I wish they did that cause that makes it more interesting and dark at the same time. This movie was the one of the defining movies from my childhood. I still have the soundtrack on my Spotify (specifically the opening credit song, metric singing black sheep from clash of the demonhead, and threshold from the amp v amp scene). Adding on to what trin said about knives being seen as "inferior" to Ramona (bc ramona is white, and knives is asian), I really do see how that could fuck up the mindset of a young asian american teen and I honestly never really thought about it when watching this movie. Being asian its inevitable that i do sometimes think about how some people view me based on what race I am. But at the same time the movie doesnt shy away from telling the audience that scott was a shitty person and that knives deserved better than him. most people who watch this movie seem to relate to either scott or ramona, but honestly i see myself in knives. especially when i was younger and dating an older boy. i'm a lesbian but i was experiencing compulsive heterosexuality at the time and i found myself obsessed with my boyfriend, not because i loved him but because i loved the world surrounding him similar to how knives was in awe of the band and all the "cool" things scott was associated with. when we broke up i felt obsessive over what i lost because i felt i couldn't be the "cool" girl i wanted to be without him. i see all that in knives because she acts more like a wide-eyed child who is visiting disneyland for the first time than an actual love interest. in conclusion knives is a lesbian thank you for coming to my ted talk.

@@danidkg4071 Part of that may be an artifact of how the film was in production before the final volume of the book was released. The filmmakers didn't know how it was going to end, so they missed out on the fact that Ramona's development is just as important. This is also why the climax of the film sees Scott and KNIVES take down Gideon; the original film ending was going to have Scott return to Knives, and the film was building up to that. However test audiences hated that ending, and meanwhile O'Malley released the final book in which Scott and Ramona reconcile. They shot a new ending, (the one ultimately used in the film) but unfortunately, restoring Ramona's development as the other half of the narrative would have required reshooting pretty much the entire second half of the film. Honestly, this is a story that would probably be better served as a streaming series.
