Texas resident. The cops stayed outside for 40 minutes while the guy was murdering. They tackled a parent trying to do what was neccesary. Let's read that again slowly. The cops, who people expect to protect them and their loved ones...ESPECIALLY in gun free school zones, Stayed outside fully aware and listening to shots being fired at LITTLE KIDS, and refused to do anything to help them, AND ACTUALLY STOPPED PEOPLE WILLING TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT. Those cops WANTED those kids to die. Those cops DESERVE to watch their families due in front of their eyes. They ARE NOT good people. Good people are NOT bound by rules. ESPECIALLY in a school shooting. Only people expressly COMPLICIT IN THE EVIL ACT would stand outside with body armor and firearms. They are government officials who only care about the government. The government wanted to kill kids to call for gun control. You live in a communist police state. Democrats = communists Republicans = communists Independents = communist supporters Libertarians = communist supporters It's a tyranny. No tyranny in the history of the world has ever been voted out or removed using the legal system that put it in charge. Neither will America.

Cody, I agree with you that I would be willing to take ANY RISK to rescue my children, but my biggest concern with entering a school as a civilian is the possibility of being mistaken for the active shooter and accidentally shot and killed by law enforcement - when they finally show up. I listened to an interview with one of the teachers from Texas this morning who said that she refused to open her classroom door until the officer slid his ID under the door to identify himself. As civilians, we don’t have documentation that differentiates us from the shooters, and I also believe there is a prejudice by law enforcement against civilians inserting themselves into emergency situations and “making matters worse” - their definition, not mine. Again, I would do ANYTHING to rescue my child (or any child) up to and including risking my life, but I think there are legitimate risks, possibly even from law enforcement, that should be considered and mitigated before proceeding into an active shooter situation. It’s tragic that we can’t always rely on anyone but ourselves to deal with emergencies, and we should be prepared to act if necessary, but everyone needs to acknowledge and accept the risks of doing so.

I think your ending points on potential repercussions of going in and end up being shot at by law enforcement touches on a good topic. Decentralizing police force and instigating more discussion/planning between local authorities and retired vets, police force, deputies or otherwise. I love the idea of using my Beofang for that but the issue is some departments, my local included, use a trunked and encrypted radio system so nobody can listen into the scans anymore. A system to listen into a trunked frequency is pushing 2k plus range and isnt something you carry/can around all the time. now for the "go bag" I agree with everything in that, gives you a great option for any problem you may need to solve. "you dont have training" Neither did the gentleman who stopped the church shooting in 2019, Jack Wilson. Nor did the gentleman who stopped the Texas church massacre in 2017. He was a neighbor who grabbed his AR-15 from the house and shot the gunman, then rode WITH POLICE and helped provide cover for the police to take the shooter into custody. We as civilians may not receive the same training as people in the profession of arms or police force but we can get enough on our own through KZbin or in person classes to be competent with our firearms and defend our families and communities.

If you get a decent handguard (Wraith, $60) and you get a Sig Romeo 5 red dot for $100 then you're all in for about $700-800, depending on what sling you get. Personally, I picked up a $20 Amazon special that came with a small 2 zipper bag I use as a detachable med pack, I hung 90lbs from the sling using the QD mounts & it didn't pop, so I'm sure it'll hold a 7lb stick. They force you to be helpless by threat of kidnaptime, false imprisonment, and violations of your rights, their oath, their rules, their policies, etc... You need to pay them money for everything, the more money you give them, the more "not guilty" you are. "We send our most innocent and vulnerable to an unprotected area and hope they will be ok." The same government that needs you to be dependent on them, are the ones running those pewpewfree public schools. If you are sending your kids to those institutions, you're doing it wrong. "Honestly it's shocking that this doesn't happen more often." Actually it does happen more often. LE delete at least 3 ppl per day. You just dont hear about it, because they cant have you thinking they are the bad guys. Propaganda is a powerful thing. "I'm tired of us responsible firearm owners bearing the brunt of the legislation that will come from this." Everyone is a responsible (enter whatever here), until they are not. but again, legislation is part of government, they need you to be dependent on them. They will keep making up more rules, until they are in complete control. They use these events to play on your emotions to get you to allow them to take away more of your rights, and give them more power. A lot of ppl say the government makes these types of events happen, and for good reason. Many of the governments "official" narratives just dont add up. "Would a politicians child be in a school where this could happen?" Read above. "Why do they have privilege?" Congrats, you now know who the real SovCits are.

From what I've read and heard, the local LEO's failed miserably. As often the case, cops are all ruff and tuff until it's time to do REAL cop stuff. Had parents been allowed to enter they would have taken MUCH less time to respond. I like your kit. No fuss, no muss just useful items to have in an emergency. Also, people need to remember to carry quality "seeds" as well. No junk el cheapo stuff which is likely to fail when needed. Quality "hand made" or store bought. Where I don't completely disagree with you, imagine how many "parents " might have actually shot at each other, rather than the actual shooter. Any response must be coordinated, and an attempt to establish a command as soon as possible. This would create a command point for the LEO's to step into and allow some, even if mediocre, control over people responding. They can be used to establish a perimeter, at best, and entry, at worst. The last thing anyone involved would want, is to accidentally be identified as the hostile shooter. My best recommendation for most parents is to stay at home and leave it to the "professionals."

Act appropriately, confident, listen to them, answer questions with viable information. You will very likely be requested to hold the perimeter with authority. That information will be radio to other responding law enforcement to keep you safe. At minimum in your town, join the CERT program. Learn how to respond in an emergency, and what the first responder will expect from you, how you will be available for assistance. Your name/information will be in the police and fire dispatch computer database. They will have confidence in your call/contact/engagement/information.

I'm a teacher, and in my home nation, almost every school has a giant perimeter fence and the building have external doors can only be opened from the inside. But even this is skipping the real causal issue. Why do so many ultimately choose to do this? It truly is a US issue as it happens so much more frequently there. What can be done to change the culture?

I can't agree more. I think the headlines surrounding this issue only ever describe symptoms of the problem, and this mentality is holding us back as a country. I agree. I will deal with the consequences after the fact. I signed the blank check to the government once before, I would gladly sign that check to protect my children.

It's heartbreaking that these things happen. I am on the other side of the Atlantic ocean and am geographically distanced I can't imagine how you all feel. I hope you never need to use any of the equipment you described although I understood why you want to have them ready.

Them Boufang radios are really good it’s worth buying the eight dollar program port. I used it last year for the wildfire season out here in New Mexico. I’ve been using it for the last month on the big Calf Canyon fire that burned parts of our family ranch. I got a thank you Cody because long ago when you first brought them up I bought five of them and Programmed them to the local vol FD I belong to. Yes I do have my department issued ICOM but I like having back up because it is so small and I can program other USFS crew channels in the field. I like the program port because you have a wider range of custom settings and you save your channel list and can program other radios fast with the same exact format. And it’s not hard at all.
