George is so out of touch on his Patek stance. 1. Saying you’re better than your consumer is tacky and always will be. 2. Saying something is ugly is legitimate criticism. Especially when they cloned the Natuitlis bracelet despite changes to the case shape. When Patek also ignores proportion by pasting those wings onto a design they don’t belong on. 3. I might not be able to afford a Patek right now. Maybe I could only afford a Rolex. But you know what I couldn’t afford a Rolex 5 years ago and in 5 years when I decide to buy a new watch I’ll remember what Patek thinks about little old me.

Wrong about Jaguar. I've bought Jag's since I was 20. I'm nearly 40 now. I've had six. I'm the exact person they're trying to shake off. I also fall into the segment that has the largest disposable income. I buy modern XF's, XKR's because I can trace the lineage back to the past XJ's and the E type (owned one of those too). I won't buy an EV, and I won't buy from a company desperately blowing dog whistles to communicate that I'm not their most valued customer. People like me have kept them afloat for decades. They'd be long gone without us, and I feel that it won't be long before they're done. No Gen Z's will buy jags no matter how pink or progressive they make them.

Yeah if the push through with the 2035 changes the car industry is toast, electricity will become unaffordable and poor people / normal wage earners won't be able to afford cars. It's a disaster in the making

I agree with your sentiment. I also see a brand having to adapt to legislation and regulations on a target for EVs. Jaguar aren’t alone having to move towards EV. I think the fact that the residual prices of EVs plummet, the fact that most people can’t adapt to EVs, the fact the infrastructure isn’t there, the fact vauxhall is closing its luton branch will give warning signs that these companies can’t keep going with the push for EVs. There will come a breaking point soon! I’m also not a fan of the rebrand.

I agree with Adrian that I would not buy a Patek after that comment but I also agree I like it when CEOs speak their mind, PROVIDED they have something worth saying. What Thierry said was uncalled for and I expect much more from someone in his position. While the Cubitus is a bad watch and I don't like it, it didn't turn me off the brand, Thierry did. He showed his true character which is unsurprisingly smug, completely lacking in self-awareness and IMO very classless and I don't want to participate in a brand that has those values. I also don't agree with gatekeeping criticism. I have eyes, hands and a wrist, I can critique a watch I don't own and never will because I can experience the design the same as anyone else.

For me the issue with the statement from Stern is that, “you don’t punch down”. If something is so obviously true (I.e. many cannot afford one) it does not need to be said. It has put me off owning the brand and I can afford a few. A slightly more acerbic statement might be that Mr Stern struggles to take criticism, perhaps he isn’t told “No” often enough. PS. Really made me smile that you’re back guys! 😀

That is exactly the point - also the younger generation (he wanted to reach with the cubitus) is very much used to calling criticism - hate as most influencers take this route rather than facing the actual criticism. It is also highly classless to punch out at an competitor (AP) and basically calling them a "one watch company" when Patek is in all honesty the same. The Nautilus enabled 80-90% of the hype they have. Just prove that he lacks true class imo.

Yes and the fact is there are watch lovers who cannot afford a Patek today, but who will be able to afford one tomorrow, or next year, or 10 years from now. They may take their money elsewhere if they remember feeling belittled by Stern… but then again, Patek’s whole marketing campaign is about being a “silver spoon” watch, so maybe it’s their goal to alienate anyone who isn’t already generationally wealthy

@@MH5tube And the watch itself is unacceptable... I've seen the two-tone today on the metal and it's hideous and lazy... When I've noticed they just took a Nautilus movement and slapped it into a huge square case (it couldn't be otherwise since the movement is not adapted) and put on a regular Nautilus bracelet, I was shocked by how bad it looked... I was a true potential client but I've just decided to spend my money elsewhere. We pay thousands (and sometimes tens of thousands) in overpriced gadgets, mostly made of stainless steel and I expect at least some effort from the most prestigious brand ever. Plus considering Stern's comments, I wouldn't consider buying a PP for a long time now...

Adrian was on fire in this episode and i think George missed the mark a bit, Andrew sitting in the middle was perfect. I align with Adrian on all the points he raised, not just on the cubitis but also the Bremont change. I'm also of the view that it shouldn't be "if you can afford it now than you can get stuffed", Patek's, mantra is not about the now its about forever. These brands should be producing aspirational watches becuse the upper mid luxuary watch buyer might have suitable cash one day and with that they could just drop the hammer on a marquee piece. Adrian, go with the VC 1921 as you have spoken about so many times if you have the money.

That little nugget of detail that you often bounce off BLOKs creator for design feedback wasn't lost on me even if Andrew absolutely wiff'd on it. Thanks for sharing Adrian, I feel like something that was trying to come out in your thoughts about Rolex prices tanking is that Rolex suddenly becomes a watch brand again and not some investment/street cred/elitism talking point. It would go along way to me coming around to the brand (I mean, the OP is just timeless and classic, hard to hate but I can and will if they are more a ideal and not a watch). Hopefully we get more irregular catch-ups gents. Annually? Strive for bi-annually?!

In regards to the Adrian strap law suit I believe it has something to with a trademark troll. A single entity called IWI that only exists to enforce the lawsuit. a lone individual that squeezes money from people using the term Nato strap. CEOs of companies cannot be so arrogant unless they have earned it with good products. Patek Philippe, unlike Rolex who has also demonstrated effrontery, DOES have good products and technical prowess but not with the Cubitus. Ultimately, it takes much to bring a product to market with details the consumer cannot appreciate but a product is not simply good because it exists.

@ I got the Classic Chronograph Jackson(the blue dial). It has a Dubois Depraz module that has aligned crown and pushers.Great dial and case details and seems to be discontinued.My number 10 now a limited piece.Enjoy yours.

@@TimeandtidewatchesI bought a 43.5mm Planet Ocean, in black, on a stainless bracelet. Been my dream watch since I was 21. My dad offered to buy me one 8 years ago (when I was half the price) but at the time would rather have the money for flying lessons to be a commercial pilot… the lessons haven’t really got me anywhere, but now at least I can say I’ve got my watch.
