For anyone looking at this tradition 7027, I highly recommend you checkout the newer 7057 version as well. I was set on getting this watch but after having both 7027 and 7057 in hand side by side in the store there is no comparison 7057 wins hands down. 7027 dial is just too small to be usable at a glance and I have decent eye sight….7057’s dial is much bigger and you can actually tell time. The main concern with 7057 was that it’s too big due to the straight lug but on my small wrist it fits perfect and the dial is way more legible than 7027. Definitely checkout both versions in hand before deciding for such a pricey piece. An absolute masterpiece of watchmaking.

I absolutely love it! There are a few things I would change about Breguet though. Mainly, the dials. For example, I think that they should only silver plate a dial when that dial is destined for a white metal watch. But leave the gold dials alone to match the case color of those dials that are destined for colored gold cases. Silver dials look just a bit off to me when in colored gold cases but I don’t think the reverse is true. A red gold dial, for example, looks beautiful in a steel or other white metal case. Another thing - and I know a lot of people feel the same way - bring back the last version of the Marine. The current version of the Marine has really lost its design direction. Bring about the last version and with a litany of new dial color options. How about a Marine with an all-powder blue guilloché dial, blued steel dial hardware, and dark blue printing? How about in mint green, or as I previously said - a red gold dial in a steel Marine? And if they bring back the last version of the Marine then a 200M water resistance would be nice. A watch name with a water connotation deserves a case that can actually resist water.

Congratulations on the new purchase, its a magnificent piece. I've long thought Breguet are undervalued and underrated because of the historical association, and because that association leads to a design language that seems a bit fussy by today's standards, even compared to others at the same level of watchmaking. With my most boring anorak and hat on: it's difficult to say exactly what Breguet invented. The patent system in France at the time was notoriously lassez-faire, and nowhere near as litigious as the British or American contempararies. There was also no read across, so an American patent would hold no water in France. This created an environment where a canny watchmaker in France who had a bit of money and a desire to impress the nobility to shift more product could patent things for which there were already prior examples. This is one of the reasons that some of the inventions previously attributed to Breguet are now described as patented and popularised instead. The automatic works and the tourbillon and overcoil (by his friendship with John Arnold) are the most well known examples. In summary then, Breguet was undoubtedly an amazing watchmaker, but to a degree because he was standing on the shoulders of other less well-known giants. Also IIRC cocks are only so named in the British tradition of component-naming. Other nations' watchmakers were less smutty (I joke).
