It's all lovely, but the ending of The Adoration of the Magi..... oh my. I can't describe how beautiful that is.

Respighi is arguably one of the most underrated coposers ever. I met his music back in the late 90s, when I first listened to The Pines of Rome. After that came a series of masterpieces that blew my mind and elevated my spirit to hieghts never reached before. Here, in L'Adorazione dei Magi, which portraits the moment when the Thre Kings of Orient found Our Lord Jesus Christ, Respighi takes two Christmas Carols, one at minute 7.20 whose name is Veni, veni Emanuel (Come, come Emmanuel), and the second is a traditional italian Christmas carol called Tu scendi dalle stelle, which means "You come down from the stars", at minute 13.20. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Chile.

Love this work. It's a real masterpiece. Magical, fragrant, dreamy. I particularly love the last movement - I could listen to it for hours and be totally entranced.

I adore this composition for the last 17 years of my life and I am wondering why it isn't more present on the concert repertoire, because, in my opinion, this composition is an absolute masterpiece. It is so imaginative, colorful and crafted in a manner of only few musical perfectionists like Ravel or Korsakov. For me, although master of the craft, Korsakov's music is a bit empty but his disciples like Ravel and especially Respighi bring the full colors up, not only as a display of the craft but also as a display of emotions. That is why ''Botticelli's Triptych'' is the complete work of art. Who are the performers and who is conducting?

"Why it isn't more present on the concert repertoire" You could ask that question of numerous first rate works that are either totally or almost totally ignored by concert organizers who are busy promoting new "music" that is as boring as hell and totally irrelevant to just about everyone except the composer and his/her camp followers.

I'm also surprised that the conductor and orchestra's names are left out. Ironically the three composers who excelled in orchestration were Berlioz, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Ravel and not one of these great orchestrators could play an instrument (Ravel had a difficult time playing some of his "easy" piano music.) Berlioz and Korsakov both wrote books on Orchestration but they are out of date now.

13:30-15:10 "tu scendi dalle stelle" ("Child,descending from Heaven" , the most ancient and popular of the Italian Christmas songs is inserted by Respighi in this work

One reason why it's not heard more frequently, is that it's not scored for the same large orchestra as the Roman Trilogy pieces, but rather a chamber orchestra.
@paullewis24134 жыл бұрын
Hmm seems a strange reason. Mozart is also scored for a chamber sized orchestra.

Who cares about Respighi? Are you? The depths of Respighi’s diversity is immeasurable, full of admiration and emotion The musical aesthetics of Respighi is beyond description This splendor of words can not arrive From Tokyo Who has a heart for Japan ? Is it you?

What a wealth of information ! Two tiny details are missing though - what orchestra is playing and who is the conductor ? I have a sneaking suspicion without these two entities all the above information is superfluous !

I`ve a sneaking suspicion that the omission could be because of copyright?

It's the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (based in NY). They don't have a conductor and it is very likely that their recording is the only one (or one of the very few) available. They recorded the Botticelli Triptych for DG along with the 1st and 3rd suite of the Ancient Airs and Dances and the suite The Birds.

Likely not in the Public Domain (PD) in the US imslp.org/wiki/Trittico_Botticelliano_(Respighi%2C_Ottorino) but that depends on whether you are in the USA or not anyway. See above. And no 'piano arrangement' popped up either. Unfortunate.
