The Arabic word "abara," which meaning "to cross," is where the term "abra" comes from.
Around 50,000 people lived in Dubai at the beginning of the 1950s, and Bur Dubai served as the city's commercial center. From the crowded markets of old Dubai, abras were commonly utilized to transport people and products to distant regions.
Abras have a distinctive design as well. The shape of the ancient Arabian boat is a hybrid of a raft and a boat.
One common type of abras used today is the traditional motorized abra. RTA’s Motorised abras cruise along the Dubai Creek daily, making it perfect for a trip to the Old Souk and other parts of Bur Dubai.

Abra fare: AED 1 per person for a single trip.
Carrying cash with you is essential as most of the abra stations for electrical and petrol abras do not accept NOL card payments.
Private bookings: Abras can be booked for a private charter for a cruise along the Dubai Creek for AED 60 for 30 minutes or AED 120 for 1-hour trip.
