There were thousands or millions of tons of weight above the floors the planes hit, and merely weakening the columns would cause them to collapse. It was windy as hell up there and there was wood desks, chairs, cabinets, and carpeting, paper, and more combustibles to burn there. Just like a Blacksmith only needs wood and a bellows to make iron and steel glow bright red for forming because that's all it takes to compromise it's strength, it is easy to understand how the columns in the towers were weakened. Besides, the jet fuel burned away quickly. Once the fire and open spaces for air to howl into the building, it was over.

Also, I'm sure the sun was able to heat the wax itself more than the ambient temperature outside (the air). Similar to how when you leave an object out in the sun and afterwards it feels extremely hot compared to how the outside air feels. The wax likely just absorbed a lot more heat

I believe the shape of the wax has a lot to do with it's melting temp. The 140 was probably determined on a solid block. A statue's irregular shape will have stress points that with the heat will cause it to deform at lower temperature than a solid block.

Amazing how dumb people are and amazing how people don't realize the thing that has the most impact on Earths environment is the distance Earth orbits the Sun and the tilt of Earth. @@Greatful0374 The wax was meant to withstand heat long enough to last through the summer. Which means at some point it got so hot that it exceeded what the statue was built for. To no one's surprise with a brain, it's getting hotter every year. Almost like climate change IS actually a problem.
