Bekmambetov: The Hollywood Chaser. All of his films are shallow mashups of what's been done. He is praised for taking post-soviet cinema production to another level by bringing in world-class visual effects, contemporary themes and non-stop action. But he will never produces anything truly timeless because all he dreams about is getting as close to Hollywood's glory as possible. He is feasting on the rotting corpse of Hollywood, sewing together lifeless monsters from pieces of superficial.

You should watch Kermode's review of Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Most of Kermode's arguments against that film are perfectly applicable to Prometheus, the main one being that the film lurches from one scene to another with little or no coherence or interest in between. "A bunch of stuff happens", but it's impossible to care. However, in Pirates there is a small chance you may be entertained by Johnny Depp's hammy performance. In Prometheus, the talented cast appear stiff, awkward, and moronic.

"[Prometheus] doesn't have a coherent story and just shows a lot of different scenes without trying to tie them together into something you can follow, but it is still pretty well directed." I'm sorry, but when you consider that Ridley Scott is responsible for the wretched and miserable and serious faults you mentioned in the first half of that sentence (and many, many more you didn't mention), the fact that he hired a good set designer and knows where to point a camera means absolutely nothing.

Still, the distinction must be made. It's like saying that Prometheus is on the same level than Alien vs Predator. As much as I despise Prometheus, it's not the case, because it is Ridley Scott helming it. There are different shades of bad.

It's a terrible choice, but if I had to choose, I'd say cowboys and aliens was less awful than Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter.

This critique is too picky. I thought the acting was good. The plot was good. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Cowboys and Aliens was a good movie.

I liked the book, would like to give the movie a go but I HATE 3D, I wear glasses anyway and have to wear contacts for 3D films which aren't as strong as my glasses so my eyes are constantly straining to focus on some terrible, dark, confused mess of an action sequence.

I know and I agree about the subjective element, but the fact of the matter is that Prometheus was *demonstrably* one of the worst films ever made. And Kermode was too cowardly to give it a bad review. Either that or he's schizophrenic or something...

Do they have a different trailer across the pond?...because in North America, the trailer is most certainly not funny at all.

"Gone are the days when people formed sensible, reasonable opinions." Jeez man, dry your eyes. You're bemoaning a perceived shift in standards and intelligence throughout society because some guy on teh internetz labelled Prometheus "the worst film ever made"?! I'm perfectly capable of sense and reason; the problem here is that KZbin comments must be short. Not enough space to carefully detail the orgy of flaws that Prometheus contains, so I cut to the chase. So sue me. Or just moan some more.

Watching a movie is completely subjective, we're all different and all have different tastes, its only sense that every now and again we don't agree with some of Mark's reviews. I know that he is a big fan of Fargo which in turn led me to watch it & i didn't care for it an awful lot. No biggie.

What exactly is a "faux opinion"?! Coining a phrase FAIL. Prometheus was one of the worst films ever made. And @boretrk explains why in his comment while still defending the movie as "well-directed", as if that mattered in the slightest when you consider the film as a whole. As for the films of Ed Wood, at least they have stretches of unintentional humor. But Prometheus: so much money and so much talent wound up creating THAT? Something so dull, charmless, tension-free and irretrievably stupid?!

The film’s stylish & intriguing, however the film’s poorly acted, unfocused, unoriginal, lifeless & is too focused on its action. (33%) (1.5/5 stars) (negative)
