I don’t ever comment on things but I must for this. I have struggled with intense depression; even diagnosed with “treatment resistant” depression. I have been on so many medications and have been going to counseling for years. I recently shucked it all. I knew deep down my depression was not from some mysterious chemical imbalance but a deep hatred for myself that came from the potential I know I have that I feel I have wasted away. I quit meds, I quit counseling, I am chasing myself. I am judged by my own courts now. I am now on the hard road of real self actualization. Now my depression seems, though still there, somehow separate; weakening. I quit relying on a counselor to fix me, praying for God to make it easier, or waiting on medicine to cure me. While all those things are good I am sure now that I am my own cure. AOL has been helping me along toward this new flashpoint. Thank you for the videos. It indeed is never too late.

Self actualisation is being actually what one could be potentially. It brings more frequent peak experiences and makes one more resistant to social comparison hence anxiety. However, self actualisation is hard because most tend to choose the path of easy pleasure. When we succumbed to this tendency, guilt arises. However, this guilt needs not be seen as just a sign of mental weakness, but a call from our inner desire to self actualisation.

Wow. This was a very insightful explanation of why self actualisation is important. I agree with this theory because it is the experience in my own life. I’m not happy unless I know I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing and improving my gifts and talents. When I answer that tearing and that cry to be better, I find myself overwhelmed sometimes but then peace comes and assured me to keep going.

"People achieve things without having achieved these. " It can be used as a standard of metric I suppose. I came across such comments in here. I think the point of this hierarchy is to achieve success in your life in a healthy way. People achieve without even having sanity. Simple eg: I have amazing cgpa in my undergrad but I still feel anxiety and depression and lack of self esteem. I compensate for the lack of reliable friendship with over achieving so that maybe someone may become my friend if they start to admire me. At the end of it, i want as stress free and peaceful life as possible to me through me...

if you searched something to find this video you are following the right path to fulfillment. Growing up as an orphan around sad people. I have watched the average person choose a life of comfort, hanging out with friends, cheap easy food, not really focusing on improving themselves. all of these people just have health issues from never being active or playing any sports. they're all full of regrets. they all talk about how they wish they did things differently. how many people have told you "i wish i was better in school" or "i wish i stayed active when i was younger"

This video eloquently verbalizes something I've been slowly experiencing more and more over the past 5 years or so. When I was younger, (ages 13-22 or so) I would constantly be thinking about, playing, and writing my own music. I was never worried about what others thought of my music, I was just excited to get my own ideas out there. My only frustration was when what I had composed and recorded didn't sound like I had imagined it would, but rather than discourage me, it just gave me a stronger desire to chase that goal of more accurately conveying to the physical world the music i had in my heart and mind. But overall, I was happy. I was honestly so happy. The only difficult times were when people I admired didn't really like the music I made like I had thought they would.. that was when the issues began to fester in my mind and heart. As I got older, (I'm now 27) more and more I would find myself comparing myself to other friends who seemed to be much more talented than me, more motivated than me, solidifying the idea in my mind that I wasn't a legitimate musician.. this would lead me to hanging on every word of feedback/criticism from friends and family that I would show my music to. It eventually got to the point where if they didn't like it, in my mind it wasn't "good". To be more accurate, it didn't even constitute legitimate music in my mind. To this day, I have a hard time making a song and watching my wife listen to it, because I have such a morbid fear of rejection. Although I've gotten better at trying to focus on my own vision over the past year, I still feel this crushing weight of imposter syndrome, like i'll never be good enough (or good again, worrying if I had peaked when i was young). But now after watching this video, I realize that was only half of it! Now I see why I feel such self hatred.. it's a viscous cycle that has started and become firmly rooted in my mind without knowing it: record a song, eventually find someone who doesn't like it (because that's inevitable), let that take the wind out of my sails to the point of inactivity, then the self hatred sinks in because of the ever accumulating "latent potential". It's even gotten to the point where I grow resentful of friends now who are able to make music on a consistent basis.. and as the video says, it makes me feel like I'm going crazy. I can't express enough how grateful I am for seeing this... I've been desperately trying to figure out what it is that is causing this constant self loathing.. the moment I watched it suddenly clicked. I hope this can help other creative/former creatives out there rekindle their love for their craft.
