My favorite portions of Jung’s excerpts were how individuation involves the family, and specifically acknowledging mistreatment by one’s closest loved ones as universal, necessary. “The boring family drama... Only a fool is interested in another person’s guilt. The wise man is interested in his own guilt, so he can learn from it.”

@fancynonsense3 жыл бұрын
@IfWhiningAtProblemsWorks, WhyDoCorporationsLobby? it sounds a bit elaborate and broad. What this yt video effectively depicted of Jung’s idea, for me, was to emphasize the restorative quality of investigating myself-my defenses, my guilt, my errors-and the consuming quality of examine another’s guilt, errors, defenses. To grow as an individual, I must regard myself as self-caused and not a victim of another person’s-or anyone governing my life-sins.

The individuation process is analogous to spiritual alchemy, "many are called, few are chosen". Because of the sheer amount of pain and work this entailed, Jung didn't believe the vast majority of people could accomplish it. The first step is to acknowledge the perils that lie ahead and to face them with resolve and humility. Thank you for this video.

Sadly, the book to provide the direct reference is packed up in a box, but here's a quote from Gregory Shaw quoting Kingsley's book "Catafalque"---which is where you can find the direct quotes from Jung about his thoughts on individuation in the index. This is a quote from Shaw's review of Kingsley's book on Jung and Corbin, "....although individuation is the quintessential myth of Jung’s psychology, it is almost never experienced because no one can bear it. Individuation is the surrendering of the personal to the impersonal, and precisely what Jung experienced it to be, the death of his personality. Jung explains that individuation is a total mystery; the mystery of the Grail that holds the essence of God. According to Henry Corbin, Jung saw “true individuation as becoming God or God’s secret.” Put simply, individuation is deification". If you're interested in reading the entire book review, Google "The Cry of Merlin" Gregory Shaw.

All in all, those affirmations helped me realize that I will always be a human being. Regardless how hard I work towards making better decisions. As long as I'm able to recognize what I need to work on, it's all good. Painful times suck but in them is opportunity. The thoughts, feelings, fantasies that erupted in those moments can be extraordinarily valuable. Haven’t read Carl Jung’s work; however, Jordan Peterson is goin back to exclaiming that Carl Jung indeed was a critique of Nietzsche’s-ideal man or (Superman) philosophy after the dead of god; man who can create his own values. “Which is imposible...” “I say am gonna stop drinking, but I don’t” “I say am gonna stop eating junk food, but I don’t”

The teachers whom I gravitated towards taught me these lessons. I don't let things out of my control bother me very much, I hold no regrets over my past, I accept everything that has happened to me because I know that those events has made me who I am today. Now I can forgive more easily and accept current conditions, now I can remove toxicity easier, now I can find independence under God's guiding light to give me the strength, knowledge, and fortitude to push through hardships and become a leading father in my future family, hopefully one day a leader in my community. Happiness and peace is more profound these days (even during troubled times) and it has given me drive to succeed at challenging things.

I find listening/reading Jung interesting, thought provoking and insightful. In discussing Jung ideas and thoughts I have found it is easier to focus on the concept of individuation as 'doing what I want to do for me' and either not thinking or focusing and even ignoring the concept of growth through wisdom and by acting in mature, wise and moral ways. I am older and I STILL have lots to work on.

5:32. This letter sounds like it was written from Dr. Paul O. He was the creator of the Acceptance Was The Answer story. He also created The Emotional 12 Steps Program. He did this when he noted that he still hadn't felt whole after completing the 12 Steps of AA. In all of the 12 Steps, he replaced Alcohol with his wife Max. On the verge of divorce, he created this to save his marriage and it worked. He realized that both tried to change the other and this led to frustration as both were sick and each tried to make the other healthy with actions that only led to more sickness. He said that Love was an action and not a feeling and so to show love, one must practice this action as they would an instrument. Daily practice of listening, being attentive, never trying to be right in an argument, doing chores around the house without expecting recognition, and imagining yourself as your spouse was the key to love. One must love themselves in order to love others.
