ABS-CBN - 50 Years Countdown: Student Canteen (2003)

In preparation for their huge 50th anniversary celebration, ABS-CBN released a series of vignettes showing historical shows, events, and entities throughout the last five decades. This particular bumper, presented by castmember (the late) Eddie Ilarde, is for "Student Canteen" - the first noontime show in Philippine TV launching in 1958 and stayed in ABS-CBN until 1965 before switching channels numerous times.

Kasi ang main hosts noon eh sina Eddie Ilarde at Boots Anson Roa who were both SC alumni. At yung isa sa mga segments nila doon eh yung "Student Canteen Corner"

Eat Bulaga was also said to be feted by ABS-CBN as part of its 50th anniversary. Interestingly, TVJ was among the hosts of the special itself and also performed with Dolphy onstage. EB aired on ABS-CBN from 1989-1995. Binigyang pangaral lang naman nila lahat ng mga naging shows sa ABS-CBN including blocktimed shows.

Yeah. Come to think of it, EB lang ang blocktime noontime show ng ABS-CBN. The rest are all produced by the network itself. Kaya di lang nagsa-succeed ang mga sinundan ng EB, though MTB and Wowowee were really smash hits before, dahil nga nakuha nila yung idea na pamimigay ng papremyo just like EB does. When It's Showtime moved to noontime, yun ang naging depinisyon ng 'counterprogramming' for ABS-CBN since more of entertainment ang pakulo ng ST.

Student Canteen was the pioneer noontime show. And in retrospective, 6 years after ABS-CBN’s golden anniversary, a talent show named “Showtime” was launched and it eventually becomes the company’s longest running noontime show post-1986 and it even surpassed the original run of Student Canteen.

Wala sila masyado paki sa archiving dati. Pinapatungan pa nga nila yung same betacam paulit ulit. But at the same time imposible wala sila natabi na copy man lang. I'm guessing meron buried in a building somewhere.
