But then what about those characters? Assuming Dick and Barbara exist, do the become villains, stay civilians, or also become heroes? And if they do become heroes, isn't that redundant af? What's their role? But I think it would feel bad and completely against the soul of the characters to do anything else with them. If you only do it once, maybe twice tops... you COULD get around that issue by giving them heroic deaths before they were trained and capable enough to take their usual places... but eh. Don't get me wrong, I DO like the concept of doing things differently with the usual villains... I just think it creates issues with the usual heroes and I don't see the solution there.

The only problem I have with this series so far is that Batman being "poor" hasn't affected him in the slightest. I thought we would see him struggling but no, the guy is a genius who doesn't need any money or mentors, he builds and learns what he needs. Yes, Bruce is exceptional and can still become Batman without being rich, but it should be much harder. I just get the impression that being worker class is barely an inconvenience for him, making it irrelevant. It's that the case, then why bother making him worker class? I know we're just two issues in, but I think that the story would have benefited from showing a bit more struggle in that regard.

i think the point was that he doesn’t need his mainline wealth to be batman, and of course, this he achieves by becoming a bodybuilder, an engineering genius, and having all sorts of talents that maybe only really work for the heightened reality that is present in the DC absolute universe. i also get that they want to show him being resourceful as his means to adapt to his roadblocks, but a lot of it also really says that you’ve gotta be a kickass engineer to be batman lol, not that i mind, i think it’s hilarious. although i do get your point and would like to see him struggle in gotham’s economy so that it grounds the character. it’s not necessarily that relatability determines whether i connect with a character or not, but moreso that the run would be stronger in general if it does address those struggles since they put so much emphasis on him being working class. not to mention that this whole absolute universe is meant to put the heroes at a disadvantage. but i also do think that the run so far advancing forward, showing batman to be this unfathomable badass, would only make it a greater setup to when he finally experiences defeat in meeting his match.

4:05 That honestly has to be one of the *SICKEST* Batman comic book panels Ive seen in a long time I really love the friendship Bruce has established with some of his villains. I like a lot of their designs as Harvey's blond hair reminds me of Aaron Eckhart or Earth One comics Harvey Dent, and Penguin's design is less short and fat and more skinny but still fairly in shape, sort of like Telltale Batman's take on Penguin. I also like how Bruce is utilising the skill sets of all his friends and uses their knowledge and info to his advantage to learn more about Black Mask and the Party Animals, even though, morally speaking, he technically exploits them for his own personal reasons without their knowledge, which could lead to having a more fractured relationship to them all and Im excited to see how they depict Selina hopefully in the next issue.

@wolv02232 ай бұрын
My guess is that he stole the dump truck he turned into the Batmobile. It's a truly expensive vehicle- multimillion dollar. But this Batman also doesn't shy away from... using other people's property. He uses vacant skyscrapers, blows up City Hall's stairs (which he definitely isn't footing the bill for, even if he does oversee repair), busted the top of an aquarium to spill out some of the water, and ignited the skyscraper in Issue #2. All of which is to say Batman knows there's rich people who are exploiting Gotham, who can eat the damages he does, and it's quite possible that he stole a super-expensive dump truck from a corrupt or harmful corporation, or one with hefty insurance on the vehicle, and made it his own.
@CTheng2 ай бұрын
That isn't something a normal person can afford or get their hand on easily, no matter how rich they are. The assumption is that he stole it from the government or his construction job. The question is how he managed to hide that, the stealing and the giant vehicle itself.

2:40 In answer to your question, I recall a pre-Crisis Batman comic that featured a South American tribe that experimented with narcotics creating a drug that turned anyone into a one-man wrecking crew. Basically, you put on a mask that represented their god of death and warfare and a tiny needle inside the mask is impregnated with just enough of the drug that a mere scratch turns you into a pre-Columbian Bane. If you're right about Black Mask's gang, the same principle likely applies here.

The bat-truck was not the least bit subtle…but this Batman doesn't DO subtle, does he? I really hope they somehow manage to keep Batman's friends as friends and not turn them into costumed rogues. This start shows Batman being resourceful rather than just rich, and that works for me. Even if he had a bit more money-say that bridge he invented was bought by a company and he had a couple hundred million squirreled away that's just become available for him to build out an arsenal once he figures out what he's up against, he's still not a rich man by modern standards. Not enough to do all the Batman things Batman usually does. It doesn't matter that Bruce's friends are maybe a bit morally compromised if none of them are doing anything Batman needs to get involved in … and it's likely at some point a couple of them (Eddie for sure) are likely to figure out who he is and what he's doing. If Batman is there fighting something bigger, something more dangerous, his friends can be normal people helping out, because they gotta live in this city. y'know? They're gonna use the whole Ark M thing to turn Bruce's friends into his rogues assuredly, but it'd be really cool if they did… not that.

I’m totally enjoying this book!! Great review 🎉

It's amazing how fast this book burned off all the goodwill it garnered from me for the premise. Why bother writing Batman as a working-class guy if he has just as many skills, resources, and absurd Bat-toys as his billionaire counterpart?! This comic very quickly went from intriguing to embarrassing.

Frank Miller should be getting residuals from this book. I do like the thought of rogue's gallery-inspired seconds, like Doc Savage or The Shadow.

I like everything but the batmobile monster truck lol

I just find it kind of strange how willing they are to push the tones towards cheesy in Absolute Batman, where as Wonder Woman and Superman are all serious basically all the way through. Enjoying it quite a bit either way.

It has a bit of a Batman Year One vibe which I dig.

I mean... Rob makes it seem pretty cool. I don't have time to check it out on my own. The things Scott spoke about and the vibe give me some optimistic hope.
