I think it's also important to inform beginners, that there are currently two 2 player starter sets, "Shadows in the North" and "War in the Holds", which contain the basics you need to get started right away: two armies and a basic rulebook for a pretty good price.

I liked this set of videos. As a gamer of some years, but a player of multiple different games, and having played almost none of them for more than a year due to the pandemic, this is good as a simple refresher to get the cogs into Kings of War mode again. Thanks.

Fantastic videos! I use them all the time to recruit new players. Do you think you could do a video on Ambush?
@DeathByDragons Жыл бұрын
That's so awesome to hear, thank you! Ambush is pretty much the same rules, but I could maybe do an intro to what makes it different/simpler? I feel a bit of a fraud, I've only ever played one game lol

great to see some ground floor content for Kings of War, watching 3 hour streams of Universal battles games is not going to draw people into the game.

I'm thinking of picking up the game for me and my nephew, he has trouble socializing and I think this kind of game could be good for him. Is kings of war a good starter choice for new players? Or more specifically good for kids?
@DeathByDragons2 жыл бұрын
It depends on their age, but the rules are simple enough that kids should be able to pick up the basics reasonably quickly. There's a fair amount of stats and measuring but with help so long as they're interested I think it'll work. My son at 12 had no problems with the rules but had no interest in the game!

Thanks for this I have been checking out the goblin models and wanted to see how this stacks up to AOS
@DeathByDragons3 жыл бұрын
They're very different games. AoS is a skirmish game, this is ranks and flanks - people say it's the game they wished fantasy battle had been. no individual model removal, clean rules, no "gotcha" moments. I may be a slight fanboy here :) I have friends that love AoS, but I'd say the main difference is you can't win KoW with your list, you win with your skill on the table.
@josephskiles3 жыл бұрын
@@DeathByDragons well I guess to some extent no matter what game you play if you don't have an understanding of your army or your opposition then you could have the best army possible but it won't do a lot of good. Some games I admit are much much more pay to win or forgiving of mistakes if you have the right army but true balance is something that's just about close to impossible to achieve unless there is basically no differences in armies and what fun would that be? Thanks again for the videos, I'm very new to tabletop war games as I've always had my time wrapped up in D&D over the years but always wanted to try them out. I'm in the middle of building a night goblin army for AOS, and both a Night lords and sisters of battle for 40k , but I might have to at least buy some of the awesome goblin models because I collect goblins and trolls . Heck I'll watch your videos and might download the rules if KOW grabs me the right way. The biggest problem is I live in the Midwest where I have to travel an hour just to get to a game store in the capital of my state , and while 40k is of course popular and AOS also has it's deciples but I haven't ran into anyone yet that plays KOW . I can't even get most of my friends to try D&D let alone convincing them to build and paint war armies.
@DeathByDragons3 жыл бұрын
@@josephskiles well of course I’d say this but in terms of balance you’d be hard pressed to find a wargame more so than KoW. There are quite a few players in the Midwest but as I understand it it’s a big old place. They have a Facebook group though, so check it out and maybe chat to Andrew summers who’s their region chair :) facebook.com/groups/KingsOfWarMidwest/?ref=share

so whats the difference between kings of war and war hammer????
@DeathByDragons Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry I missed this comment. I didn't play warhammer much so maybe others can comment, but no individual unit removal, no massive "hero-hammer" units that clear the board, no ridiculous world-beating magic seem to be three recurring themes. Kings is just more balanced, where it's more about the player than the list...
