I was diagnosed with an L4-L5 disc bulge in October 2020. The doctors that I saw gave me no remedy or exercise to correct the bulge. I had pain from my lower back to my thigh. Finally, I found this video and the MacKinsey video 2 weeks ago. I’ve been using these exercises for a week and I’m already improving. Thank you gentlemen for the great exercises.

When the pain woke me up at night I would watch Bob and Brad videos.I religiously did the exercises and saw a physiotherapist. At home I would do Physio in the morning and night. 3 months later and most of the pain has gone away and I’m back at work. Now I know why people with pain sometimes are diagnosed with mental health issues as well. The pain was real. But don’t worry it will get better. Have hope and Have patience. 5 months ago I had a herniated disc. I had pain greater than anything in my life. I was always unsure on those forms "on a scale of 1-10 how is your pain?" this was a definitive 11. It felt like someone was ripping off my right leg from my hip and fire was shooting down my leg. I would pop pain pills and just writhe in agony until the pain went away or I passed out. I had 2 epidural injections and in 6 weeks, 12 sessions of physical therapy. About a week ago my sciatica finally completely stopped and if it wasn't for this method I would not be as well off as I am today. When I was first injured I watched so many videos, read articles, and so many stories and I feel like, for what it may be worth, it's my turn. You guys and physical therapists everywhere do amazing work and gave me back my life. Thank you.

Guys, you follow these two docs' teaching and do the exercises well! They are amazing! Got herniated disc 6 months ago and the pain was immense. And my doctor says he can introduce me to some surgeons rather than giving me exercises. I was quite depressed and found Bob and Brad. I followed their instructions and did the Makinze exercise quite seriously. Now I am completely healed (may be). I can even lift my leg while laying on the bed which is a very difficult task for people with herniated discs or sciatica. Cannot thank enough to these docs! They are like angels for me.

Guys I tried everything including exercises, stretching, going for walks (2hours daily, first 15 minutes was horrible I had tears in my eyes) went to a chiropractor, massages, hot springs, all these things helped but it didn’t cure my sciatica the pain always came back in short time. I didn’t want to get surgery because I read multiple comments how it made it worst. I had sciatica for 4 years it was so bad I couldn’t sit or sleep on a mattress I was sleeping on the floor (the hard surface made the pain bearable) couldn’t work or do ordinary things it was miserable to say the least. One day my friend asked me to join him for a boxing session. At this point I was desperate I thought it might be a bad idea but my arms worked so I decided to join him. We did stretches and exercises then a few minutes of punching bags and a one to one session total of about an hour. The next day I had tingling everywhere I thought I fcked up my body but then after a few hours, no more pain! It healed like magic I couldn’t believe it. After that I realized that I was doing everything wrong and that my upper body was where I had to focus on. That one session totally cured me and I no longer have it. I go for a swim time to time to keep my body strong. Also this may sound off topic but I cut out rice because it made the pain worst while I had sciatica, I had no idea i was allergic to rice so you might want to check out allergies and go over your diet. Vitamin C (pills did nothing I mean real vitamin C from fruit like berries pineapple etc) and black seed oil really helped with the pain. Anyways I hope this comment helps I know everyone’s different but for me the key was diet and upper body exercises. Good luck!!

@@what2904 No I’m doing great! I do feel stiffness after eating rice (or gluten) so I completely avoid it now unless I’m a guest in someone’s home and they prepared food for me. I exercise 3 times a week, focusing on my upper body. Most of these videos show exercises that focus on the back or lower body that’s not where the problem is. Unfortunately there’s not much information online and I felt lost and miserable so I hope this info could help some people. Sciatica could be caused by many things, deficiencies, allergies, weight gain, weak muscles (upper body), bad/unbalanced posture (from weak muscles) even parasites. Going to a chiropractor is useless because it’s only temporary you have to build muscles to support posture or it does nothing. It’s ridiculous how the medical community approaches the issue, and so many could avoid getting surgery that could make things worst. For supplements I’ll like to add and recommend MSM flakes it’s amazing stuff even for pets. Really helps with muscle stiffness joints bones allergies etc. I take it with lemon water in the morning or before bed. Hope this helps!

ok, you guys are the greatest! I began watching for tips for my husband who has neck and back pain and carpal tunnel. But THEN! I screwed up my back a few weeks ago by being overzealous about my new year's resolution to exercise more. I knew I pushed my limits when my back began hurting so I took a week off and did only yoga. BUT! I got worse one day to the point I could hardly move and my lower back pain was horrible. My husband suggested that I could have a herniated disk, so I checked out this video and all of your other ones related. I realized that doing my yoga exercises were exasperating my condition because of the forward bending. So I began doing the MacKenzie extensions every hour during my waking day, along with using our inversion table, sitting only with lumbar support, and icing periodically. It is day 3 and I am feeling some major relief. I must be on the right regimen, so thank you so much! I realize that I have not been diagnosed, but I thought doing the MacKenzie and icing and inversion would not hurt. I wanted to give it a try and if I didn't feel different, I was heading to the chiropractor. But things are looking good today, not 100% by any means, but I am more mobile and have way less pain. I have a brand new understanding of my back and which exercises to avoid and what to do when I make a mistake. I want to extend a big virtual long distance hug to you both!

On the 8th day I felt a strange sensation after doing them but it was the disc pushing itself back into place so yes this really does work! I recently was doing a lot of work where I was kind of torquing my left side and it flared up again, didn't think it was my disc but last night did 160 of these pushups and it did help so it must be something with it. I guess that I really should do them every so often, not 200 a day but maybe 50 or so just to keep things in check.

I meant to post this a couple of years ago when it happened, but you guys' videos on the McKenzie method actually helped me evade a lumbar fusion at the very last minute. My back was an utter disaster (two prior microdiscectomies/laminectomies going back several years), my hip constantly felt like it just took a 16" high-explosive shell, I was at a point where I had to wear a brace _even while sleeping_, had to go to ER for "hypertensive emergency" caused by off-the-charts pain levels, etc. Even showering or just using the can was a horrific experience requiring an iron will and supreme pain tolerance. The PT I was assigned to was old-school, really addicted to traction as a treatment for whatever reason, which wasn't really helping IMO. Out of desperation I started searching YT and came across your stuff and began trying it. My fusion surgery was fully scheduled for Dec. 21, 2018, but the neurosurgeon asked for a follow-up MRI the week before to determine where the disc fragment from my sequestered hernia had migrated to so that he could fish it out during the procedure. The results came back five days before my scheduled surgery; the neuro was surprised and said he saw substantial positive changes from the original MRI the month prior, and now recommended that I skip surgery and continue w/ PT instead. I did, mostly following these exercises. I'm nowhere near 100% and have accepted I probably never will be, but I'm 10,000% better than I was at my nadir, and can fairly easily do most all of the tasks I need to do on a daily basis. Seriously, thank you for the informative and helpful vids.

That fixed most of my problem then this exercise kicked the shallow lingering problems away. If I am working out really hard for an extended period of time and am stressed with school it will start creeping back but then I just do these exercises a couple of times and it goes away. I am almost positive it has to do with something in my exercise but IDK what

Quite right a definite thumbs UP from me!! OMG Gotta share this: I suffered from sciatica pain all of a sudden in 2014. I take wellness VERY seriously & believe in alternate / natural health remedies to the main stream medicating maniacs out there (!?) I started main stream physio-therapy because the pain would not go away & it started to terrify me - IT WAS INTENSE!! The crew at the physiotherapist were so kind and caring but their exercises HURT & made my pain worse, so I then began to do some research and found yoga stretches that I tried & felt better - I quit the therapy, improvised/customized the yoga stretches to fit me, and started my own yoga routine, (which I do every night b4 bed to this day.) EXACTLY what you recommend: The cobra stretch, and bending backwards - SO right for sciatica!! I would highly recommend the cobra stretch, just like you'll show, and instead of bending backwards, here's what works wonders too: Make a cylinder pillow (by filling wool / cotton into a large cotton sock - Works like a charm!?) place it carefully where the arch of your lower back (the dip between the buttocks and the back) meets the bed so you feel as if your back is bending backward as you lay on it (fill pillow more if it doesn't feel like you're bending backward, & less if it's too full & strains the back too much) - legs bent, not stretched for the most part. (Another cylinder pillow for the dip between skull and neck is suggested, or simply position a soft pillow to fill that gap) Lay like that for a while. I do so every night b4 I fall asleep, to keep supple and sciatica free. Try it, it CURES SCIATICA & KEEPS IT GONE - PLUS IMPROVES BACK JOINT PAIN.

thank you so much bob and brad. I used the mckinzie method that you have demonstrated on many of your videos for close to 2 months (even a little bit helps for example 3 or 4 standing mckinzie pushbacks after sitting down) I am so happy and very grateful to say that the numbness and tingling had gone from 100% to 1% in 2 months ..now 8 months later that pain and numbness is almost 0% and I have to actually remember that I had a disc impingement sometimes just to make sure I dont bend without bending the knees as well. My impingement actually affected the Femoral Nerve as the logic remains the same I just used bob and brads pushups for sciatica and noticed the immediate relief that they mentioned so I just kept doing the mckenzie as often as I could and It completely solved. amazing when excercises actually work.! thanks again! 2 neuros and 4 orthopedics that I consulted before seeing this video could not help me, you guys did!. I love youtube!

About 20 years ago, I had herniated disc that was causing me sciatic pain. A combination of a nerve block and doing a series of the Mackenzie exercises allowed my disc to go back in place. To me it was a miracle, because the exercises were very simple. Some of them were basically laying on the floor with a pillow in a certain position.

This helped me so much. I first saw this video a little over a year ago, I had herniated L5 S1. I could barely move my right leg without feeling seering pain . After a week of practicing this exercise I was feeling better. I was back in the gym within 2 months. Although I still have occasional discomfort and pain its is 90% more functional than a year ago. I get cramps in my calf and tingling in my leg. If I do to much work or exercise It gets worse . But you have to do the exercises and have a good physical therapy

I have visited a Mckenzie clinic where they taught me how to do this exercise and I must confirm that it does miracles. I had a ruptured lumbar disk and had tried everything. Chiropractic, disk decompression, physiotherapy. The pain was still there preventing me from having a normal life. In the Mckenzie clinic they explained to me that if I do this exercise every two hours, my body will begin to heal itself. And that it what happened. Though I have to say, the cause of our illness is always psychosomatic. It is important to feel and release the suppressed anger and stress which is one of the main underlying causes of this pain. Lower back pain is actually a defense mechanism from our subconscious to distract us from the emotional pain that we feel unable to face. Keep strong people. I know how maddening this pain is. Use the pain as an opportunity for reflection.

I only suffered sciatica which lasts a week or two occasionally, but now it's been 9 weeks. So I tuned in. When I get time, I'll research more and may try this. but all joking aside , this exercise has given me my life back . I spent over 1 year out of commission until i found this exercise . The first time i tried it i exhaled and my lower back cracked three times , So loud that it scared me . But after that initial pop i was instantly more mobile and far less pain .. If anyone out there is suffering from lower back pain , this is the miracle you need !! Just make sure you don't have a blown disc , this stretch would only make the ruptured disc worse !! I went from being confined to my recliner , to working again in just a few weeks after learning this

I dont have pain down my legs but was told i have some bulging discs in my lower back. My pain has started to come back more and more regularly with each time taking a week or more to get my regular life back. My pain comes from the side of my spine and its like my muscles are super weak. I dont know how to strengthen my back enough to prevent this from happening and trust me if doing this helped you and I am now thinking I need to do this to see if i can get some relief. So happy to hear it helped you Joshua. I’m hoping it helps me too.
@buckJuddson4 жыл бұрын
@@kimpanella1565 awesome just remember breathing is the key here . Every breath you take will relax your body . Eventually you'll have a sudden loud crack . Also remember that tense muscles will prevent you from realigning your spine so consider visiting a massage therapist !! My girlfriend is a massage therapist in training and between her and this stretch I'm now almost completely healed . You can also start walking every day that will help strengthen your core and realign your spine . Good luck and sorry for your pain , believe me I understand..

I had the exact problem you're suffering from when I was 18, and at 21 had a partial discectomy to remove the bulge, this improved the pain significantly and with exercise it became almost unnoticeable at times. Now at 31 its starting to return a bit, so unfortunately from my experience it is something you just live with and have forever in some form.

You can get better people, so don't give up hope. I had sciatica few months ago, and now I can walk, sit and sleep, basically pain free, just sometimes discomfort in lower back area. I remember it was a living hell when I woke up with sciatica, I couldn't stand, I couldn't walk, I could not sit, and even laying down to sleep it was painful and I knew when I wanted to stand up, it would be a hell of pain. I remember crying and screaming in the middle of the night because the pain was so unbearable. You need to do the back exercise. It might be painful at first but it will go away. So don't give up.

I tried doing press ups after watching your videos, but my back was so tight I wasn't able to bring myself up more than a few inches. I was feeling a bit hopeless when I saw the wedge pillow that I originally purchased for my acid reflux. I lay chest down on the wedge pillow for about 20 minutes and my pain is 50-60% better the next day. I've been doing this every night for the past week and my sciatic pain is about 90% better and I can do press ups afterward . I don't know if it has cured my problem but at least you've help me ease the pain. Thank you so much!

Thank you. I've got that problem (degenerative disc) and I have used those exercises for many years (I don't remember where I learned it). Do you have more for the higher back (above L5)? Because doctors don't seem to know how to deal with chronic pain. Every day, all day and night. I hurt so much I feel that I'm loosing my mind sometimes. From 1 to 10 how is your pain today? About 25! Just learning that I have to live with this for the rest of my life is daunting! ....and I'm not the only one, many feel the same way.
