1. if you have a period in the day to feel no pain 2. generally worse with sitting and getting up from sitting (bending down worse, stretching up gets better > good sign) 3. if it is worse while bending forward doing something 4. worst in the morning but improves in about half an hour cause of disc imbibing with fluids during the night 5. worsens with inactivity, gets better with movement like walking 6. if pain stops above the knee 7. if generally you are better when laying on the stomach and on the elbows If you have at least 4 of them its a good sign you can heal your own sciatica

I am 62 and exercised every morning and lost 30lbs. Then I laid on a roller the wrong way and herniated a disc. It was agony for two weeks. Now it has been a month and it IS getting better. Just had an MRI and have a disc extrusion. I felt like many of the commenters. My active life was over and all that that infers. Now it is a month later and I’m able to lay on my stomach when I sleep and can lay on my back with little pain. Hang in there! If an old guy like me can get better and continue my life, then you younger ones can as well. Be patient and listen to your body. Don’t push your limits and be kind to yourself. Chances are good it will get better This is a 3 month update to my herniated disc issue. I am back to lifting and working out normally! I was careful and stopped all of that activity for a while and now it is fine. I am very careful about lifting with my legs and not my back now, but there have been times I’ve tweaked it and feel it. But even the numbness in my left shin has gone away. Of course each of us is different, but if someone had said I’d feel this good 3 months later, I would never have believed them. Hang in there and remain hopeful!

In my 20’s I had a pretty bad case of sciatica, confirmed by MRI to be caused by a bulging disc. I didn’t have a good handle on how to properly recover and dealt with the pain for a couple of years. It was also hard (agonizing) to sit down and I would have to arch my back aggressively, but one day I remember sitting down and realizing I had no pain and that perhaps months had gone by without noticing it. This was after 2-3 years of sciatic pain. I try to walk 15 - 30 minutes a few times a day, then do some decompression with chair or with pull up bar, do 15 McKenzies and lie down on stomach. Rinse and repeat every 1.5 - 2 hours. I sleep on my stomach as well. Hopefully my back will heal in a few weeks, so that I don't wreck neck sleeping like this.

airchairairflare great to hear, when did you first feel pain? I was lifting in the gym and woke up with pain! What triggered your pain! Do you do any gym work
@airchairairflare4 жыл бұрын
@@kieranbutler3323 This is how it happened for me as well. Too much deadlifts, and then in the middle of the night sorness turned to pain. Tried to stretch ql, hip flexors, gluteus, releases with ball...etc,initially for 2-3 weeks and it only aggravated it. After that stopped all stretching and focused on lying on stomach as much as possible, which decreased sciatica symptoms. After hour or so I stoud up and walked around in order to flush junk stuff in my lower back. Also avoided sitting as much as possible, and doing hip hindge instead of bending. It looks like it works. Keep in mind, I was able to do pull ups from day 1, but bending, standing, even lying down on my back hurted( and it still does ). I think this is 4th or 5th week since I changed rehab program, and Its so far with promising results. Edit: I don't do any gym work currently. Only controlled pull ups, and push ups once a week. I've read that combination of lying down ( for me on stomach ), standing and walking will heal you.

What would it mean if my L5S1 herniated disk was causing excruciating pain for 5 months but now the pain has recieded but now I have numbness is it getting better or worse it's certainly nice to not have to deal with the pain but obviously something still going on rite?

I have to agree with your slogan, you guys are the best! Have had trouble with sciatica since I was 14. Now 33 and not being as active ( driving 3+h a day ) is killing me. I don’t care who thinks I look stupid swinging my legs outside my ute in between site visits. Great job guys! Edit, can you get someone to level the 2 cupboard doors to the left. HAHA!

I have horrible pain. I’m waiting on approval from insurance for an MRI. I went to two neurosurgeons, the first looked at some xrays said my back was great no disk issues. Second one points out a couple tiny spots in my lumbar area. I have All the symptoms for DDD. I’m a yes on 7/7. 10 months of PT didn’t help. Watching this video makes me feel like I have a good chance of getting my life back soon. I will try these exercises while I’m waiting for testing to get done and reviewed. Thank you.

5 out of the 7 here. Currently suffering with a bad back which I believe to be a herniated disc as I was diagnosed with 2 herniated discs 5 years ago plus my body is leaning towards the left. I have been laid up resting for the last 4 days with little improvement and just found your videos and currently trying out some of your exercises. Hopefully I can fix myself this time through exercise and avoid another lengthy lay off from work. Keep up the good work.

I could not walk for 4 years cos of extreme pain and sciatica got to China by shear chance and learnt a whole new way of dealing with the back. It is not budging discs it is out of alignment spine caused by spasms dealing with these each day before bed and doing Tai Chai before bed not only helps fluid get back into discs but lubricates the sinews so in the morning you have resumed your length avoid sitting do as much strengthening exercise as possible earn how to improve groin strength that then supports lower back I also have an inversion table every few days I lay on this an hour and physically pull my self apart unlocking vertebrae. Walking up steep hilll is marvellous for sciatica and blood flow. Make sure when you sweat replace salts Thank you.

I personally have healed from sleeping correctly I was under the impression my sleeping patterns were only during a sciatic injury then I realized it is the way I have to sleep daily injury or not..this completely took my pain away before it was good days and bad days where my legs hurt really bad...so I was sleeping inconsistently only pain I'm still having is pain behind my left ankle near my heel but it's on and off....I heard it's also from the sciatic nerve. Thanks so much

After going through some serious pain due to 2 bulging discs, I can tell you the best sign you can heal your own issues is if when you wear a back brace the pain subsides. If that is the case, then your core is extremely weak. I obsessed with strengthening my core the last 6 months and my pain went from a 10 before I started, to a 1 or 2 on a bad day. A back brace is essential acting as your core. Core people, obsess over making it as strong as possible, and you can be pain free.
@dsfd835 жыл бұрын
Lany Burnett what exercise do you recommend ? If you don’t mind me asking I suffer from the same problem.
@lanyburnett79665 жыл бұрын
Zubair P what works best for me is doing some sit-ups on an ab mat. Those, and dead bugs. Hip mobility stretches help too. Look up the couch stretch. This should help.

This helped your pain??? I ordered me a back brace... I be in some serious pain. I don't want surgery... I need some pointers.. could you help me??
@lanyburnett79665 жыл бұрын
Bee L the best thing you can do is strengthen your core. I would recommend dead bug exercises to start, and the progress with more advanced exercises. You can google advanced core exercises. But, I find doing sit-ups to be the most effective. Currently, I do about 250 sit-ups a day, but mix in other core movements like ab wheel roll outs, or dragonfly lifts. Work hard at it and it will get better. Hopefully this helps!

WOW interesting video. I have ALL the opposite of the "good signs". -I Feel better bending forward -I Feel better when im sitting -I Feel agony when face down ( leg numbs and gets worse ) - Feels excruciating when I'm walking or standing all day long - Can't centralise my pain at all doing any of the conventional sciatica excersises. I wish i watched this video months ago. had i known these were bad signs 7 months ago i wouldn't have spent the last 7 months time in agony trying to heal with physical therapy while only getting worse and now loosing my mobilty. I have surgery in 2 weeks now and bed ridden.
