Layne told everyone to practice their riffs, but Geoff didn't - cause basses don't do runs and riffs. Layne told him to practice. Eli, J and Geoff were each wonderful, but it was that three part riff that was completely mind-blowing!!

I know J was recruited by the US Navy for his vocal talent. I heard from a reactor who tried to join the US Air Force chorus and despite having a good background in performances did not make the cut. He commented on J None having been recruited and said how rare that was. So yes, we need J back in just over 2 yrs. His voice is beautiful and rare.

If you want to hear them do a more classic country sound, check out their short, "Your Man" by Josh Turner. You'll love it because Geoff...well I'll let you find out on your own. 😂 In fact, I would love to see you react to some of their shorts. I've seen some reactors do several in one video to get a full video length to post, and they definitely have a great variety to choose from.

This song is very special to me--it's my family's story. My husband's uncle was an alcoholic until he met his wife. She gave him a choice--liquor or her. He chose her (with the warning that if he ever got drunk she would leave him). By the time I met my husband and met his uncle, he'd been sober for 10 years and counting. He never took another drink for the rest of his wife's life and when she died, he started drinking once again and literally drank himself to death within two months of her passing. It was so sad--he felt like he had nothing to live for after his wife died. So it's very special to me--not only are the vocals out of this world, but the story is very close to home for me.

This was one in their series called Partwork and I'm especially totally blown away by the harmonies in the run they all do near the end of the song. You REALLY need to react to their cover of True Colors

Layne, arranging this song: Everyone's going to riff. Geoff: Basses don't riff. Layne: Start practicing. Daddy Sang Bass is also a "country" tune that got the VP treatment. (It's especially moving if you've seen the very first video Geoff posted on his channel.) Can't Help Falling In Love and Bridge Over Troubled Water are also smooth as silk, in the same mood as Tennessee Whiskey. Both arranged by Geoff with this same lineup in the group.

This song is my happy place, it means more to me than any of their other songs. If you don't know the original, or the Chris Stapleton version, this is one of those ones where Voiceplay don't just make it their own but make it *better* in literally every single way. I can't wait to see what you think of it...I am guessing from the thumbnail you posted that it surprised you...💗

A more refined version? Maybe, but better than the live version? I respectfully disagree, Chris puts real emotion into his performance and you can tell that he's been in that situation, especially the way he looks at his wife in that video.

This was the first thing I ever saw from VoicePlay and it blew me away. The harmonies, the runs, and yes, Geoff. so as you can imagine I've never looked back. :) To be fair they all have beautiful smooth voices which blend so well together. A harsher voice would stick out like sore thumb. What you're saying there is that they are real singers. You don't get too many of those these days. Layne always challenges Geoff and Geoff rises to it. He has admitted that he found the run very tricky, it's not natural to him, he had to be helped with that. The other , popular, version I know is indeed more country.

Been looking forward to this. This was Voiceplay's 2017-2020 lineup, which to many of us is the "real" group as we first discovered them during COVID. When you can, also check them doing Can't Help Falling In Love, a simple presentation with everyone including Layne on ordinary vocals.

This is VoicePlay at their most smooth and seductive - just gorgeous 😍 Not sure if anyone else has said but that's actually "Partworks" not "Artworks" - the musical note flips over to form the "p". I think "Partworks" was a series of videos they put out experimenting with different combos of voices. I know there's one with multiple Elis and Geoffs, another with multiple Earls and Laynes - haven't seen them in a while so need to go back and watch them again 😊

I doubt J will be back as a full time member. He has strongly implied he sees the Navy as a career. From VoicePlay’s side…they’d have to do new arrangements for like 90 percent of their back catalog - all of which was arranged to include a counter tenor higher than Eli can do for a whole concert. Lastly, they did try to being in DeeJay. The only reason he isn’t full time with them already was that he had just signed to do Hamilton.

Love it! Yeah, these "Partwork" songs that they did, where it was more... scaled back have been one of my favorite 'threads' within their work. Don't get me wrong, they do amazingly well with the big, showy pieces, but when they're just kicking back and singing the hell out of a song... just _damn_, y'know?

Much of modern “country” is just blues with a twang. Not that most country fans would admit it. Clint Black and Travis Tritt come to mind. Listen to Tritt’s “Hard Time and Misery”. Hard core blues.

This isn’t country. I know it was marketed as country, but it was always blues with a twang. Most of Clint Black’s stuff is the same. “Country” is one of the few commercial outlet for blues music these days - R&B has moved fairly far away from old fashioned blues.
