You asked if Cesar has done any theatre training.... yes! I was his high school theatre teacher and even in high school, he was an amazing story teller. He is one of the most sincere and beautiful souls you will ever know. I actually taught Jose Rosario Jr and Cesar in high school at the same time... we were so blessed.

Cesar, you just want to hug him and never let him go, Eli, Rock god there’s nothing more to say, Layne brings unimaginable percussion in just the right amount, Anthony has got the voice of an angel and when Jeff says I want a perfect body the only thing I could think of is you already have one!

@christinestromberg4057 Жыл бұрын
You just know that these guys feel every word, don't you. Geoff really does wish he had a better body. Don't know about his soul, I think he's pretty special as he is. They all are. Do they even know it? Anthony's voice gives me chills. Many of us feel that way at times and I'm sure it;s true of them too. We all have our demons, our insecurites. But this video? All the feels. The mirrors were Geoff's idea in a video otherwise created by Eli. There is an old video in which they point out what they don't like about themselves. It's called I Love Me.
@candilunsford2878 Жыл бұрын
When you were talking about Cesar making you want to cry when you reacted to I Can't Make You Love Me I was like, just wait. Just. You. Wait. I love the introspective feel they created by using the mirrors. So often we take a look at ourselves and don't really see the real us, just what our emotions and fears tell us we "ought" to see. It was awesome to see Eli arrange another one. I've been waiting since Eleanor Rigby for this.

Cesar's part in this song hits hard. He lost a friend in the Pulse nightclub shooting (an anti-LGBTQ mass shooting in Orlando) and being a gay Puerto Rican living in Florida, where lawmakers keep attacking LGBTQ rights, Cesar has dealt with groups of people thinking he's a "creep" simply due to who he loves and the color of his skin. Meanwhile, Geoff's line "I want a perfect body" sounded way too personal and honest. He (rather comically) portrayed his struggle with body image issues in "I Love Me", but now he sounds vulnerable, like he still suffers with that part of his mental health..... although many fans MELT over him, haha! Still, I know that all the adoration in the world doesn't help; if anything, it can drive a person to believe they must keep up potentially dangerous diets and workout schedules because otherwise no one will love them. I've known people who wrecked their health and shortened their lifespan (my aunt even died) due to body image struggles. The rock part (to me) seemed like a declaration of them being able to power on despite internal struggles, but in the end, when the flashy lights of the stage are gone... those struggles never really go away. You can learn to live with them, but they constantly haunt you. I just want to give them all hugs and tell them how very special and perfect they are, not from anything on the outside, but who they are on the inside. Strip away their (very handsome) looks and even take away their voice, they are still such beautiful and gentle souls. I don't often cry in songs, but this one and "True Colors" leave me in tears.

Awesome reaction as always. Kudos to Eli for his arrangement to this. It is so freaking beautiful. They filmed this several days. Cesar's 2 solos where 2 days apart but he made them seem like it was in one take. Cesar has a bachelor in Music Business and Masters in Entertainment. He also performed at Disney World for a short time before joining Voiceplay. Btw.... As Geoff put it "they put another ring on Cesar's finger for another 18 months". The mirror belongs to Cesar and it was Geoff's idea to use it even though Eli was in charge of the video. We need more Eli arrangements.

That "Doing" note is incredible. It is also very difficult to hit that way. He is ever so slightly below the tone, but it is necessary to tune the chord properly. They are incredible talents, each of them, and know how to tune to perfection. Perfect pitch is the antithesis of what these guys do so well and make look so easy.

I still have not made it without tearing up at least once, usually when Caesars voice breaks on the word “cry”. Sometimes I can hold it together after that but for some reason that one just does me in. I love Anthony’s soaring vocals, but the vulnerability in the first section is so beautiful. Another one of my favorite parts is when Jeff is finishing up and the word soul, soul, soul is echoing in the background. It is so gorgeous. Now I need to go watch your reaction to SNC’s version. They’re one of the first a cappella groups that I think of as modern in their interpretations that I ever watched and they’ve remained a favorite, but not at the level that these guys produce. Eli really did do a spectacular job all the way around: arrangement, video concept and direction (along with help from Tony) and those gorgeous notes that only he can produce.

The style of this video, with each guy staring into their mirror and sadly picking out flaws, reminded me of "I Love Me" that they did with Emoni Wilkins way back in the Tony and Earl days. That video is the flip-side to this one, very fun, very colorful, very upbeat, but the video is all about learning to accept and love the things about yourself that make you insecure. You should check it out sometime!

While I hear your lovely envy of having the talent of any one of these guys for one day, and having their confidence in their performance... The fact is that it takes years of training, hours of practice (both solo and together)... And the acting also takes a lot of practice. So... If you put in the work to train your voice and your ear, and your facial expressions, you, too, can... Well, I won't say you will become the "rock god legend" that you claim they are, but you can learn to be talented that way. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice...
