My sister lived a couple of blocks from Berdella's house. She came home early in the morning to find cops around her VW convertible she parked in front of her house. A neighbor had seen a man sitting in her VW which she always left unlocked so thieves wouldn't slash open the top to get inside. The man was naked. She heard him say something about "escaping" from a party. A couple of months later another young man escaping from a party led police to Berdella's house.

I remember this disgusting perpetrator. Those years, the 1970s-1990s were plagued with Serial Killers. He was active during the same years as Gacy, Bundy, BTK, The Green River Killer, The Hillside Stranglers, Ramirez and Dahmer was caught only a few years after this guy. That’s the SHORT LIST of these guys that were on the loose. And no cell phones. When we went out for the night we truly were on our own. Scary when I look at at those days. As awesome as those days were, it was some scary times. RIP all the victims and my prayers go to the families. Their pain of loosing their loved ones is continuous. 🌹☦️

I lived in the area, Hyde Park, where his house stood for my teens and early 20s. It stood for well into the 90s until a neighbor ended up with the property and had a driveway laid on it. In the 80s my classmate lived 2 or 3 doors down, and as a kid would do outdoor chores for Mr. Berdella for a little pocket change. Was in his entryway a couple of times even. No one had any idea there was this madman living next door. I've been told that his documentation has been incorporated into the Library of Congress and is still used as reference material by relevant chemical manufacturers and forensic scientists. Without having to do it themselves, they now have results of how the stuff he used to torture his victims interacts with the human body 😬

You gotta remember the time and place these things happened, the prosecutor has to consider whether or not the jury would vote to put a killer of gays to death. It's also very expensive not only to try a capital case but to house a death row inmate. Third there's prosecutor bias. I would be willing to bet the D. A. didn't feel like putting allot of effort into his case

There’s a lesson in this case and in every other serial killer case, if you hear screaming coming from your neighbours place or from anywhere for that matter, do not simply ignore it. Always report anything even if it’s only a bad feeling about someone. If you’re wrong, no harm done. If you’re right though, you could be saving a human life and any subsequent lives of the potential later victims.

I read a book about this monster. The police when they questioned him played on his egomania- an officer opened the door for him and greeted him with “Good morning, Mr. Berdella!” They set up a table with Berdella’s chair in the middle of one side, it was larger than those of the policemen and detectives and was slightly elevated on a dais. They spoke deferentially to him, playing on his emotions. It worked.

I am from the area and remember this case well. So sad. I visited Zak Bagan's Haunted Museum in Las Vegas a few years ago and there was a Bob Berdella exhibit. It contained one of Bob's diaries, handcuffs and a bed frame supposedly from Bob's house. I was astonished and could feel the sadness and desperation of his victims. Dying of a heart attack in prison was too good for him. Interesting side note-Bob's spiritual advisor in prison was the same clergy that officiated my wedding and my kid's baptisms-wonderful man. I was given ketamine when I broke my leg (in 2 places-tibia & fibula) & they needed to splint it. I hallucinated that the doctor, nurses, & my family were these big grey aliens standing over me with a bright white light shining in my face. The one positive thing I can say about it is I could not feel any pain whilst the drug was in effect & they were manipulating my leg into the splint. Unfortunately its very short-acting but I hope maybe it provided some temporary pain relief to Berdella's victim... besides, I cant imagine hallucinating anything more awful than where he actually was so hopefully it was a temporary reprieve.... Im surprised I'd never heard of this Berdella douche bag despite growing up in Missouri & watching a fair amount of true crime stuff....

In 1992, Berdella contacted Rev. Roger Coleman, whom he had met when first incarcerated, relaying his distress that the staff at the Missouri State Penitentiary were withholding his heart medication. At 2:00 p.m. on October 8, 1992, Berdella complained to prison staff of severe heart pains, and was taken from his cell to the prison infirmary. Medical staff determined his heart was unstable and called an ambulance. Berdella was taken to a hospital in Columbia, Missouri, where he was pronounced dead from a heart attack at 3:55 p.m. He was 43 years old.

Back in 86 my niece just turned a year old, her sister was 6 months old. I would baby sit them in one of KCMO suburbs during the week. At the time everyone loved usually Pizza Hut pizza my favorite supreme pizza. So my brother in-law an I was eating a large pizza the news came on saying they was going to show six victims pictures in different stages of death. Belived was killed by him but didn't know who they was. I was taking a bite when collage came on screen I was going vomit I ran out the front door came back in I couldn't eat anymore. Till this day 38 years later pizzas aren't the same. I worked for Dunkin Donuts on Blue Ridge Rd / 87st. in South part of KCMO A woman I worked with boyfriend's brother was one of the men in the pictures. She didn't know about them till I told her back then she called her boyfriend on pay phone in the shop. (No cell phones). She told me later one was his brother who had came in from California he told them he was going to the City Market where Bordello had a shop. So they had no doubt he was one of his victim because he was into drugs.

I guess that this man Robert Berdella, was a very mad man, mentally disturbed, a homosexual himself who chose men to inflict pain and torture to them. The men he chose where homosexual male prostitutes who most likely were vulnerable. Mr. Berdella’s method of torture using violence, drugs to sedate this victims, and electrocution, speaks volumes about the kind of man he was having a deranged mind. And he not only tortured and raped the victims, he killed them as well and dismembered their bodies. My gosh, I am speechless about this monster, he deserved it the lethal injection after all he did to his victims. Unbelievable story of an evil serial killer, just horrific. May all the victims Rest in Peace always 🙏

As a young child I met Bob while at the Westport flea market with my family... I was around 4yrs old... We were supposed to be getting burgers... My dad and Bob had some sort of conversation that seemed like they knew each other but weren't announcing it... Long story short I ended up eating some of his homemade chili that he had some story about having gone to south America to hunt some Brazilian hog for his chilli.... Needles to say the chilli wasn't real good and it gave me a few weird bm's.... It wasn't until years later that he was caught....I've had perceptions of my father intentionally introducing me to Bob and his chilli....I just can't trust him anymore

There was a time I used to travel into the city to buy my green stuff. Years later I came across a bio on this killer (I think it was an A&E / Bill Kurtis one) and what stood out for me was that his address was on 4313 Charlotte Street. That was the same street as my dealer. Imaging my shock when I pulled up the street-view option and saw that the house was less than a block away. By the time I got around to contacting him he had died of a heart attack. I was so disappointed. I would have talked to him for hours about this.
