Want to help? As temperatures drop to 40 degrees at night, we’re shifting focus on gathering essential cold-weather supplies like propane heaters, heavy blankets, buddy heaters, warm clothing for all ages, beanies, gloves, and hot hands warmers. Your donations allow us to provide the specific items locals need. You can donate here to support these efforts: www.usmensacademy.com. If you’d like to contribute directly to support my personal missions, which have required me to take significant time off work, you can also do so here by contacting me on IG @jasonleesurvival Every bit helps, and I greatly appreciate your support during this time.

I live in the middle of the devastation..The truth is that FEMA is here. The military is here in groves. I have seen all this myself. Yes the locals are helping their neighbors. That is what our culture does. The donations coming in are mind-blowing. I have been volunteering at a local church. We've had donations from all over the country. Many donations but also the need is so great and will be ongoing. Thanks to all for the prayers. Please continue to pray for us. Thanks also to all that have sent and brought donations, came from other states with atvs to get to the regions that are not accessible by autos. Private helicopters making drops and rescues. The worst thing you can do is go into an area like this to sight see. Stay out!! I went through a devastating flood in 2008, and we had rich people driving their kids through, looking at us like we had Christmas lights on our homes. Or worse. We had people stop and go through the huge pile that was our lives of damaged goods. Hoping to find something good. Like vultures. Looters even came in and scrapped the copper plumbing. If you are not going to help, stay out of the area. You become part of the problem, crowding the roads. And the locals might actually become violent. We saw that happen a few times. Help or stay away.

Same thing here after Thomas fire in CA 2017. Our house was saved with minor damage, we were able to return after a week, and people came to the front door and tried to walk in thinking it was abandoned. They dug up plants from the yard. Quit your BS! National Guard, FEMA and Army are all on the ground doing everything they can. They always start in the major population centers and work out from there. Why? Because it is the major population centers that have the core infrastructure needed to keep civilization going. Once these areas have electricity, food, shelter, those from the surrounding areas can more easily access these necessities, particularly if they need to be evacuated from where they are currently. This is how it is in EVERY major disaster. I know you just hung up your COVID expert hat, but sit back. Oh yeah, the orange R@pist is just so much better. The fact he wants to cut government agencies like FEMA and NOAA, would have made this soooo much better. Quit your BS and let the adults handle this! You know damn well every politician does an arial survey of disaster areas. If they don't they are criticized for "not caring." If they do, they are criticized for "getting in the way". I am part of this team and want to be very clear. We PERSONALLY haven’t had resistance from any local cops or firefighters. They’ve been very helpful. Locals are annoyed with all the sightseers so please don’t go to these communities to just take photos and videos. We weren’t going to film until we were told to get the truth out. We’ve been all over helping. The only major government hindrance was when helicopters that were delivering supplies all day (s) got stopped for hours by two specific people who did nothing in the field but steal valuable air time and stopped aid from going out. Most people that we spoke to weren’t happy with F£MA but there was a town that was very grateful for them being there. Others were very upset that they were taking their supplies to do with it as they see fit.

The clothing issue. I was involved in a tornado disaster and so many clothes were donated. The clothes per both Red Cross and FEMA required that all clothes were to be cleaned before distributed. Very likely this if anything is being collected by the government to process and clean. I don’t believe anything nefarious is happening like the rumors being spread.

Im in WNC and I’ve been saying that it’s so much bigger than Asheville! So important to focus on what’s all around Asheville for at least 100 miles in all directions. We had a lot of people evacuate Florida to come here. With another storm coming, it’s important to let people know the blue ridge parkway and so much is closed. I tried posting in some westher channels and people replied with where should we go? Well, there’s Alabama. Anywhere thst you can get a hotel, grocery stores have food and gas etc. I think many will come here to the smokies to evacuate again and we will not be able to accommodate them. Please spread the word for the need to let evacuees know… Ingles geocery store only has 1 distribution center and it’s in Asheville/ all the stores in WNC began to run out immediately. If you insist on coming, bring food with you and cash etc.

The government is not dropping this. The government is the local, and regional authority. Mayors ,sheriff’s, governors and maybe the Federal government can be told where these people live. This is a mountain ridge where people live and the roads were washed out. Trees are blocking the roads and debris from train containers to mobile homes floated off the foundations are blocking access. It’s easy to sit in your house and criticize the efforts of other people. They don’t have cell phone service, water,electricity. The boots On the ground are doing their best. At least they are there. THIS ISN’T A MOVIE. THIS IS REAL.
@ksytube
@ksytube 2 ай бұрын
National Guard, FEMA and Army are all on the ground doing everything they can. They always start in the major population centers and work out from there. Why? Because it is the major population centers that have the core infrastructure needed to keep civilization going. They have power generation, food distribution, highway networks, water plants, etc. Once these areas have electricity, food, and shelter, those from the surrounding areas can more easily access these necessities, particularly if they need to be evacuated from where they are currently. This is how it is in EVERY major disaster.

My understanding is that $750 is fast easy, no paperwork emergency money. The rest you will have to fill out forms and go through processes to get the much larger help you will need. DO NOT THINK THAT IS ALL FEMA DOES. APPLY FOR EVERYTHING. You may not qualify for all but even those without flood insurance will get help over that initial 750 UNLESS you fail to apply. Please do your research.

It's a disaster and more than our state expected from a tropical storm. I am thankful to see all the help that is being provided by locals and those coming from many other states. I just wish folks would keep politics out of what has proven to be one of the worst disasters to ever hit our beautiful mountain communities. The government has always proven to be slow in response no matter who is heading our country - remember Katrina and lord knows we are doing better than what happened there. Yes government response needs to improve (another disaster about to happen in FL). But there are lots of rumors and false information being spread and we really do not need that. The $750. spoken about was just for immediate cash assistance - NOT a total amount that you will get. Please try to make sure what you say is correct.

A lot of the conversation here is based on misinformation and lack of knowledge. FEMA is not taking supplies, they are coordinating how supplies are distributed. For example, I went to a donation point, but their building was overflowing with food and water, which they were distributing to people who needed it. And there wasn't enough space in the parking lot for all the trucks and cars coming to both donate and distribute. So they suggested I go to another one in another town. I went there and was able to donate. It isn't helping to pass on misinformation.

This whole area of the USA( which is the size of at least 4-5 European nations), is very hilly/ mountainous. It is rocky ground with a relatively thin layer of soil. The area is heavily wooded & overlaid with numerous rivers, streams, waterfalls, springs & lakes. Folks have lived here for generations. Gullies & ravines cut through the area & were the first to be settled . 30" of rain, high water tables, rocky slopes, narrow valleys....a recipe for disaster as we can see.

Only about 50% of a given claim is approved and the documentation they require is insane......most people will get VERY little from FEMA despite all they say they're doing, this is not opinion, I've personally SEEN it on many occasions. They came to photograph the misery of others while treating us like we weren't human beings who were going through something stressful. They didn't care if they were adding to the stress or anxiety of others. I don't think they mean anything by it. They just don't THINK or use their brains. They are amazed at the sheer devastation of the community but they aren't thinking about the PEOPLE. They are looking at the empty stilts that used to have houses on top. They are looking at the piles of debris. They are looking at the dead horses caught up in tree tops all bloated and dead. They look right through the human beings. I wouldn't mind so much if they just took photos of the destruction on property where there was no people but to sit right in front of someone's property and video them while they try to figure out what to do or while they walk around picking through debris looking for ANYTHING they can salvage is just so out of touch with common decency. We still had the top floor of our house but I think there was only one other house still standing in our community. It was total devastation. I wouldn't even talk to the media. They kept rolling through wanting to get people whining and crying for their ratings. I told them to get off my property and don't come back as well. We didn't have time for their foolishness. We didn't want sympathy. We just wanted to be left alone to clean up our property. Neil Diamond built 14 houses for people in our community who didn't have the financial capability to rebuild because they were on a fixed income and had owned their homes but would never be able to afford to rebuild. Volunteers from a Mennonite community up north came and slept on cots and the ground at a local church and helped people clean up their property. We had many good people come and volunteer. I still appreciate and remain in contact with some. They brought cameras BUT they gave them to the children in the community so they could go around taking photos of how they saw things and how things affected them. One of the men put the photos the kids took in a book with family recipes they submitted. It was good therapy for the kids and a good distraction for them. There was something they could DO. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to also ad some positives. It might be a good idea for someone to pass out disposable cameras to the kids in these Helene affected areas. It's interesting to see the kids perspective of things and how things affect them.

Some people filming are posting here on KZbin and drawing attention for the much needed help. The real story here is much more detailed than evening news sound bites. Lookyloos may help those in need through this.

I need to get in touch with either the gentleman you spoke with at the rear of the truck, or the lady you spoke to towards the end of the video. From Va and working my way down from Damascus, experienced, skilled, resourceful. RLTW

I feel you, my family are still recovering from 2011 when Alabama had so many tornadoes, I forgot the full count. My small village was hit 4 times in one day. No one from the govt ever came until 4 days later when we ourselves uncovered our roads and traffic could get through. I do know fema gave out trash bags, gloves and reflective vests. That's it. The Salvation Army brought food. Saying prayers for your struggles. God bless. We were without power for a week. It's amazing to live in a small town when something like this happens. All the little stores started cooking all their meat and giving out food, walmart let theirs rot.
