What makes this really bad is the fact that there are SO MANY people in this area ( like myself ) live below 20k a year due to a disability. I had to spend my rent money on just surviving the 7 days and 6 nights of no power or water. No Internet, no phone service except in certain locations that you have to travel to and sit. I don't know how I'll make it this month, I spent my bill money to survive ! Fresh food every day, charcoal and lighter fluid, had to eat everything you bought or it would go bad. I've put it in Gods hands

@@margiemurray2147cb radios or ham radios is affordable technology but also not produced in the USA any more. I assume somewhere on the internet you can buy them, I am sure Amazon will find a company because they always do, but still it’s not the internet, it’s limited reception & very local. It’s primitive technology when wireless & wifi via satellite is the path for our future. This whole concept of cell towers is expensive & outrageous & easily replaced by a series of satellites encircling the globe. I mean SpaceX makes money from NASA contracts but it’s not how the company survives. They survive because STARLINK can give communication within a country whose communication ability was destroyed in 1day by a psycho serial killer named Vladimir Putin. The only reason Ukraine is winning the war is because STARLINK hooked them up, at first for free, but it ain’t free any more. So who is making money in outer space right now? Elon Musk because he owns 100% all of SpaceX & SpaceX owns STARLINK. Trust me I a, not an Elon supporter. He is a pig, a narcissist, an attention whore. But the Ukraine war saved his dumb ass.

After watching so many videos of what happened to you all in WNC, TN and the rest of the area, I felt compelled to comment to you, and to the people of the area there. This natural disaster is of a magnitude that, thousands of years from now, geological digs will know your story from the layers of sediment. History will always remember this time by the layers of the Earth. Sadly, you'll never be able to dig everything out. You'll never be able to rebuild everything to be exactly as it was. Your lives will be changed forever. You will come to live a new norm, but you will never forget those terror filled hours. You will always remember. Just know that from darkness comes the dawn. Through this terrible tragedy, you have come to show this nation exactly how resilient you truly are. You define the meaning of the word community and you embody the definition of strength. We, here in Southwest Washington state, know what you've been through. We had to overcome when another historic geological event happened in1980, when Mt. St. Helens erupted. The Toutle River Valley was completely destroyed by the largest landslide in the recorded history of this planet. The course of the Toutle River was changed and Spirit Lake completely disappeared. Mt. St. Helens went from 9677 feet to 8307 feet. She lost 1370 feet. She spewed out 540 million tons of ash that, when it rained, turned to mud. The mud. How well we remember the mud. It looked like the moon here for so long. Your rivers will run different paths now. Your mountains have changed shape and are several feet shorter now. Your area is forever changed just as ours has been. Stay strong! Southwest Washington state knows what you're all going through. We overcame and you will, too! We see you. We hear you. We feel you! We can't afford much, but I donated some to you. I know it will be used for things that help out people. I wish it could be more.

Citizens like you and me were helping to unload... No law enforcement or FEMA there. ( at least for the few hours our drivers were there) Our drivers asked ... we'd like at least one or 2 of our trucks to be unloaded more west. Tennessee is devastated in many areas as well.. they were told roads are impassable in most locations east of Asheville. They assured us the supplies are being sent to ALL areas in need ( including Tennessee) We have 3 more trucks filled. I'm sure the 4th one will be full later today so our drivers will be headed west again Sunday morning 😊 😁 Have a great weekend 💕

Thank you for highlighting this! The day after the storm my friend who lives in Black Mountain/Asheville was able to get out and she drove to our friend’s house in Charlotte and all of us here in DC & other parts of the East cost donated money for them to buy supplies for mammas and babies and they drove it all back and dropped it off within a day. Our other friend on Lake Norman has a neighbor who has his own helicopter. He’s been flying out every day dropping supplies and rescuing stranded people. The government takes a while to set up the infrastructure to support the workers and the supplies -especially when you can’t always anticipate where and when the storm will hit and then they are stymied by the same obstacles-mountain roads & bridges destroyed, dangerous areas that they can’t send people into yet, all those issues that are hindering everyone else hinders them too. They will ramp up and get the help there. But right now it’s the every day folks who are doing their best to help out. It’s amazing how many supplies my friends were able to drop within 48 hours. And up here in DC -our Costco is out of paper products completely-so I know where those went. It’s times like these we have to remember how much good is out there. Everyone is doing their best to help. It warms my heart! ❤️

The government (employees), utility co. (employees), and the emergency response service (employees) are in the same boat as ordinary citizens, which is a big reason why there are huge delays in organized help arriving. If there is no cell service, power or water, it's best a community gather at fire houses and ask how they may help & relay information about their neighborhoods directly to them and pull together as volunteers to lighten the load for all. Chain saws and backhoes to help clear the roads are needful once waters recede enough.

I’m sooo glad I found this channel!!! I’m so proud of both of you and you remind me of my wife and I back in our younger days. I’m a disabled Desert Storm Vet and I’m about 20 miles S.E. of Greensboro and live in my Coach full time. I was actually supposed to arrive at a campground in Barnardsville NC 2 days before this hit but I had a guardian angel watching over me again and I snapped an accelerator cable and had to delay the trip till I could get repairs made. I’m sitting here feeling really guilty cause I’m not somewhere in the affected area helping with something, even if it just means letting others plug in to my generator or setting up my outdoor kitchen and smoker and cooking for anyone that’s hungry. There’s gotta be someway I can help! I can not work 16 hours a day doing the tough, heavy work like I used too but I’ve got skills and experience that can help make life easier for someone. I got hit by a tornado in June 1998 in Iowa just two days after buying our new property and old farmhouse. Long story short, I lost everything in the blink of an eye and have never truly gotten over that so I understand what our neighbors have floating through their minds when they look out and see their home and possession’s scattered for 6 miles and my heart is breaking for them. If there is anything I can do to support y’all from up here just let me know but if you need extra hands anywhere In the affected area, I’m here to support anyone and I will get packed up and come. I can’t donate financially cause I’m on disability and I barely make it month to month but I can give you as many hours a day as the lord will bless me to work and be proud to do anything. I spent 10 years as a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force so even if the flying groups need help with anything aviation wise, I’m able to help, just let me know if you here a need. Take care guys, I subbed your channel and I’m proud of y’all!! I used to spend most summer & fall time in Rainbow Springs just west of Franklin at my buddy’s cabin snd over the last 10 years developed a deep love for that entire area from Black Mountain to the state line of Tennessee & Georgia so I know the terrain well and know what I’m getting into. Be safe guys, we need good young folks like you with good heads that can help lead in times like this. I’ll keep praying for all of ya till I find another way to help and I’ll watch all your videos to help a little that way as well. Take care!!

On average we got 17 inches of rain in 24 hrs some got as much as 30 inches. And it all runs downhill into the valley. They are saying over 200 dead and 300 missing/unaccounted for, in NC alone. When the final number is known I think it will be in the thousands for the whole. Bless you

I truly thought yall would have to evacuate. What an incredible miracle for the lake. Excellent water management. Exceptional eyes on the weather, whoever that may be. I also survived unscathed on the east side of Boone. The orographic effect did not hit us due to not having any high peaks behind us. God bless the hollers. This is Katrina but with a handful of spaghetti noodles thrown at the map. Across 5 states. Glad yall faired well. I wish patience and goodness to everyone here in wnc. We only have each other💚

From New Orleans, and totally agree... New Orleans was actually flooded AFTER landfall.. one of the reasons was a barge hit a levee... And the rest of our " relief" canals basically failed.. 80 percent of the city was flooded... Also below sea level doesn't help..

I did FEMA loads for Hurricane Francine and I thought that was bad but this was unprecedented. By far the worst destruction I've witnessed in person. Sweetie, I can maybe help? A recently retired RR worker. July 4th. I can offer you half my retirement. If I don't gift it, it goes back into the general fund. It doesn't affect me at all. Spouses get half of what their husbands make. It's weird? I've tried to offer this to many people that say they are broke, yet no one is willing. Here are the guidlines. Must be retirement age, and must be married a year. Look it up on the RRB, (railroad retirement board) I worked for UPRR for thirty years and paid into it like everyone else. If I don't use this option, the money goes back into the general fund. We don't get Social Security? The fund is an annuity. I retired July 4th. I just want to help someone out? I don't want a relationship. If you aren't intrested, any one else can contact me? Prenup. What is mine is mine, what is yours is yours. I am real? Free money and healthcare. I keep seeing all theese woman saying they are broke, yet offer help, and no one responds, or doesn't want to believe me? Whatever. It's yours for the taking. I'm 61. Good Luck, and God Bless. The only reason I replied to you, was my ex was named Dyana, after the actress Dyan Cannon? lol. I don't care if you want it or not. But I want to help someone?

That is how I felt on 25 october 2023 when Otis hurricane hit us in Acapulco. no celphone, no ligh, no water no nothing for 2 months we were back to middle ages and everything destroyed. Luckily the rest of the country sent a lot of help and they also organized the way to bring the help before the govermment. I cant believe the amount of destruction the flood left, so many people, houses, lifetime efforts.. So sad. I hope this bad days are left behind very soon and never happen again. We know first hand how much trash gathers up on the lake. My husband passed away in 2017. I am glad to see the clean ups still happens.

Thank you for including a general sense of the catastrophic destruction to the region. I sit here in Chicago where very few natural disasters are even possible and climate change has not altered much for us, and watch the news of this devastation with great sorrow. I have vacationed in the Smokies in Tennessee and North Carolina and found it sublime. I have been to many of the places that were hardest hit, so it is particularly alive to me what jas been lost. I also know how important it will be for many years to provide economic support so communities can do all the long, hard work and get back on their feet. I will be planning a vacation to the region for next year - and will look for a working vacation, like Habitat for Humanity. I hope that idea will be promoted soon for folks like me to begin planning. For now, Operation Air Drop seems to be targeting the most isolated people in the greatest need. Bravo!

Even when the water recedes, they will remain in danger a while. They need to be sticking with bottled water or risk cholera outbreaks, which in the past, increased the death toll more than the floods themselves. Aside from the human death toll, the losses incurred by family farms (horses, livestock, poultry, crops, topsoil, tractors swept away in raging torrents) is going to be an issue for a long while. Expect a protracted recovery for all residents, including the indigenous wildlife.

The military can do very little in a natural disaster. They can't repair power lines. They can't rebuild the roads. The can provide some equipment, but not that much. They can provide some heavy vehicles for logistics and transport but they don't have an endless supply of those. They don't have vast warehouses of MREs to feed hundreds of thousands of people. Fighters, aircraft carriers, and nuclear submarines aren't going to come to anyone's aid in the mountains. They have a lot of helicopters if they were all in one place, but they're deployed all over the world. It's amazing how people think the military is somehow the answer to all problems, from the border to natural disasters.
