Congratulations! I see a 1k just below your name :D The great ones usually require multiple listens to pick up on nuances you miss the first or fifth time through. That's why being a reactor can be challenging, especially those who can separate individual instruments (as you do). In the case of Band-Maid, you are also reading the captioning while picking up on the transition riff subtleties or a bass fill that flows into or out of the bridge. It's a lot of fun for the viewer to experience what is "new" to you, and potentially to many of your growing base of subs. The Cheezy Coalition grows! Alliance perhaps? Army is too overused imo, so I feel we should distinguish ourselves until you're pushing for a 5 or 10k Livestream ;)

@@Cheezyxyz Kanami is the freaking Mozart, Beethoven and Bach of Rock. Supposedly she's a real 'air-head' but there's no musician on Earth that works as hard as she does and none that is so willing to share her skills with the rest of the band ... they all love her for how great a teacher she is to them all, especially Miku (2nd guitar and backup vocals) who didn't know how to hold a guitar when the band first started (Thrill, their 1st music video you can see how uncomfortable she is just holding the guitar as a prop ... now she does her own insane things on guitar and keeps taking on new challenges.) There's so much too this band that just a few songs don't show ... they are all special personalities, both off the stage in real life, and on stage where they put on different personas as part of their performance (we all know what's going on but all the fans play along because that's all part of the fun ... in addition the band itself have a few other personas as well: Band-Maiko, where they put on traditional Japanese Maiko dress and add traditional instrumental sounds to the mix ... Gion-Cho is an original Band-Maiko song, what will blow you away in terms of music and the cinematography as well as the meaning behind the song Then there's the year the band decided to challenge Miku to do a small project on her own (go back to her J-Pop roots and do an MV with different musicians using her new found Band-Maid skills. Turned out to be so good that she eventually released an EP of that band, some really great and interesting J-Pop. Acoustic Band-Maid is something else again. No hiding behind distortion or effects, just pure Band-Maid unplugged. And back to Miku for a second, she writes most of the lyrics, but as usual there's more to this than meets the 'Band-Maid' eye as well. Japanese is a language that consists of short syllables almost always ending in a vowel sound .. this gives Japanese songs a particular sound that while not bad, misses out on some of the dynamics of having syllables ending with a consonant sound (ex: Make in English ends with a 'K' sound, where the word 'make' in Japanese would be sounded out as 'Ma Kaa') So most Japanese modern lyrics mix in English words to as a 'changeup' to get those consonant sounds happening every once in a while. Usually though there are basically 'random' English words that have very little to do with the song and more just to break up the 'vowels'. Miku on the other hand is known not only as a Japanese poet, but she also is one of the best in mixing in the English with the Japanese in ways that actually contribute to both the singing flow and the lyrical content (and Saiki, the lead singer happens to be one of the best at being able to sing this style, which even for Japanese fluent in both Japanese & English is considered a hard thing to do.) And then there's MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) ... they too have their stories, but I've said way too much already! ;-)

@@Cheezyxyz And Miku was a real maid in her past. She was the band founder and original vocalist of the band. She was never play the guitar before when the band was form. She was so bad that didn't even know how to pretend to play it in THRILL official music video. She decided to recruit another vocalist to make her band sounds better and then learn the guitar. Check out THRILL by Band-Maid and let's see how far they had developed.

Great reaction style. You stop, talk, and rewind just right. So, Kanami, lead guitar, is the songwriter and musical leader. She's getting better and better at creating different parts that "are all over the place" but work. She directs the development of songs in a way that gets maximum creative input from the others, so, as she says, they are "Band Maid Songs." Miku, rhythm guitar/second vocal, is the lyricist and leader of the band. She fronts the band in concerts and handles a lot of the promotion. The other three, as you have seen, are skilled at their crafts. Check out something live, you'll see that they are not created by studio magic. Manners/Black Hole Official Live Video or Domination Live would be a good way to start.

Well said. But just to nick pick a little: if you asked the members whether the band had a leader, they'd all probably say no (Akane explicitly said No in an interview a few years back). They are very close friends with a special chemistry, so the members have adapted to diff roles over time. Miku is the primary frontwoman for the band socially, altho Saiki is stepping into this role more as time goes on. When someone needs to address an audience however, Miku is expected to take the mic. Kanami, as you said, is the musical engine of the band. Nothing to my knowledge however is released without Saiki's express or implicit approval. All of the bandmembers seem to seek Saiki's tacit approval for the new sounds they create, as well as the new sounds that will release as Band-Maid ones. Typically the women decide together what type of new song they think their live shows will need, and Saiki will then request Kanami to write it (it's very common in interviews when asked why she wrote a song, for Kanami to reply that Saiki asked her to). So in my eyes at least, despite all things musical typically emanating from Kanami as far as song creation goes, the member who most closely fills the band leader role behind the scenes is probably Saiki.

Good review, your observations are spot on. There’s no need to do two songs at once, like a fine wine, each song should be savored. Blooming & Influencer a fall into their newer material. Before you immerse yourself too much into Band Maid, I suggest you go back and listen to their early material. “Thrill” is their very 1st song released. Then I recommend Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Real Existence, Freedom (official live), & Moratorium. These are all earlier songs that rock and will give you a sense how the Maids have evolved over time. I’m glad you’ve discovered Band Maid, they’ve the best band going !

i started my japanese girl group journey in 2016 with their mv for 'real existence' - their 2nd mv after 'thrill' - which just popped up one day on a youtube suggestion. i thought it may be just one of these idol groups i had heard of. girls dressed like maids not playing any instruments. but out of curiosity i clicked on it and could not believe it. they were phenomenal. i will admit that LOVEBITES has taken over my top spot and pretty much my life. but i still love THE MAIDS. there are a few that trash them but the talent is undeniable. their 10 year anniversary is in 2023 - they are no flash in the pan

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. They have just finished their US tour (13 concerts + 1 festival) including 4 performance in your state, CA. (They played "Blooming" once in SF and "Influencer" 4 times in Aftersohock, SF, LA and SD). We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Concur with "Manners / Black Hole" from the Band-Maid channel. But, here's a different direction from some of the other suggestions: search the CHAOSMAXTCG channel for a video titled "Moratorium BAND-MAID live new york 10/28/2022". It's a fan cam from their New York serving less than a week ago. The song is one of their favorites from their Just Bring It album from January 2017. It has the most rock and roll "don't dilly-dally" you've ever heard. Yes, the sound is not like a recording, but you'll see a little of their stage presence, and how they can get a crowd to sing "Whoa whoa whoa" along with them. They are an amazing band.

You did identify Saiki as the singer of that low part in Influencer eventually, her natural speaking voice is deep for a Japanese woman. Although she is a Soprano her low tones are absolutely gorgeous, let's just say goosebumps often result. Miku is a Mezzo Soprano so she is the perfect partner as she can harmonise through Saiki's whole range but also add a bit more both higher and lower for added interest and variety. Saiki's voice is the more powerful of the two so more suitable as the primary vocalist for their music style(s). Incidentally all of them have beautiful voices but we rarely get to hear Misa, Akane and Kanami, I'm sure eventually you will discover those few occasions when they do contribute, particularly Kanami's sweet voice and when Miku takes lead vocals.

Miku the Secondary Lead Vocalist is a MezzoSoprano, meaning she can sing lower and higher than Saiki the Primary Lead Vocalist, who is a Contralto/Alto. However Miku doesn't have the same vocal power that Saiki does. I have two different analogies explaining it. The first is audiophile: Miku only has a pre-amp installed, while Saiki has has the pre-amp and amplifier installed. The second is the hose: Take a hose with a screw nozzle, open it up so it covers the largest area, it doesn't spray very far or hard, that is Miku's voice. Tighten up the nozzle and now it can go very far with much more power, but it doesn't cover as wide an area, that is Saiki's voice. And while Miku does perform backing vocals, she ISN'T a BACKING VOCALIST. She is the Second Lead Vocalist. Kanami, Akane, and MISA do perform backing vocals which are used on the backing track they use when they perform live. The other Ladies find it difficult to both sing and play their instruments at the same time. Hence they record their backing vocals for the backing track, and Kanami the lead guitarist USED to trigger them with her microphone. The Ladies have switched up their sound gear, so now their sound engineer triggers them. Before, Akane would trigger the click track and the backing track, then give a count in to start the song, and Kanami would trigger any backing vocal tracks from a controller attached to her pedal board and microphone. As far as I know Akane still triggers the click track herself, while the engineer takes his cue from her trigger to start the backing tracks. I haven't found out if Kanami is still triggering the backing vocal tracks from her microphone, yet.

If you like the classic Hard Rock sound of BLOOMING, go further back to THE NON-FICTION DAYS; it’s a great song that only gets better each time you listen to it. For another song with a sound like INFLUENCER, try UNLEASH, from the same EP. Whatever you do, be sure to check out the official live video of DOMINATION, from a few years back.

Wonderful reaction. My recommendation for next would be their most recent instrumental From Now On (the music vid if you can find it), which is the first song off their latest album. Here's a link to the music vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn_CqJpuiqatb6M. I'd recommend the studio recording too, as a fan-cam recording for this song feels like a crime lol. If you prefer heavier sounds, you can also check out the MV for Sense, or even Unleash. I'd also recommend Daydreaming (slower ballady song) or Gion-Cho (a song they perform as their alter-ego band called Band-Maiko) to get a taste of the crazy diversity in their songwriting. If you want to try some earlier Band-Maid, try to dig up the live versions (Studio Coast 2017) versions of Puzzle and Moratorium, as you'll smile for days afterwards; also from the same concert is the mid-tempo Awkard, which imo is a creatively brilliant composition. This band has so many songs to recommend, that it's - well - one of the most important things that makes this band special and important.

Good reaction! The only thing i'd say is consider turning off lyrics - or at least try to ignore them! every % of your attention given to reading is lost to listening. I think is fundementally impossible to pay full attention to a song AND read. Check lyrics out before or after if you need to- but you dont really need to for a first listen.

I agree 100% I do not focus on the lyrics. That are mainly there for everyone else and I'd I need to rewind. Especially since this is mainly in another language. Normally, subtitles are turned off.

@@Cheezyxyz I had caught up on 6 albums and concert dvd/blu-rays before they really started adding captions to new, then older videos. It didn't matter but then it was great to find Miku's lyric writing is up to par 👍🤘🤘🤘

@12:44 Saiki has a very low voice for a woman, you can really tell it when she just talks she sounds very authoritative. In a video on here on KZbin Saiki indicated that her vocal range is: C3-F♯5.

When some bands have 10 ideas, they write 10 songs. When Band-Maid have 10 ideas, they put them all in one song, and then have another 10 ideas, and another 10, and.... Kanami (lead guitarist and great composer) is very busy churning out song after song, riff after riff... In Blooming she made the other band members bring their ideas first, and she melded them together into Blooming.
