If I had the money, I'd get it. It's gorgeous and in pristine condition. Whenever you see a banana stuck to a wall with duct tape going for an absurd amount of money, take heart in knowing that there's real art floating around.

Nope, Satsuma has taken a nose dive in recent years! Now with Japan in a recession I fear prices will drop even more. He never said if it was by one of the masters, which it probably is, but even then it might fetch between 3 & 5 thousand!

With inflation it's ~twice that today. In practice the market at the moment is quite insane and I can see it doing five times that in today's market.

It really depends. Chinese vases did insanely go up in value, but japanese ones (especially satsuma export pieces) dont really fetch high prices at auction these days. The market nowadays seems to really focus on "domestic" pieces and not export ones anymore.

@@magicmachine1637 yes yes i agree this is one is of course a very good example of extremely good craftsmanship but its really pretty rare to find actually valuable late 19th/early republic chinese ceramics, even nice ones are quite cheap! (comparatively)
