I’m not sure if I’ve said it in a video but I was a pretty big head in the 90s. Never went on tour but saw almost 40 shows in 4 years. My accent is a blend of so cal skater/hippie with a touch of Austin twang. Lol

Hi Pete, Loved this video and your initiative with the Bertie Foundation to help the children for Christmas. A very noble undertaking Pete - I am proud of you!! Please note that the Buy me a coffee site won't let you donate / gift more than $25 USD. I wanted to give more but I could not find a way to exceed the maximum offered on the Buy me a coffee screen. Yes, in Thailand - they use condoms in more ingenious ways than we do back in the west. You made me laugh on that one.

For this year's fireworks show, I went with my Thai friend to the Phra Tamnak Mountain Viewpoint to watch them from up above for the Saturday night show. It was great. The crowds up at the viewpoint were reasonable. My Thai friend went to see the Friday night show from the City Coffee Pattaya vantage point - which is just behind the BIG Pattaya City sign (which I tease my Thai friends as I call it their Hollywood sign). He said that it was SUPER packed from that place on Friday - so we were very lucky at the Mountain Viewpoint. To get back to Jomtien, there were many many mocy motorbike taxis at the Viewpoint - so it was very easy peasy. Two years ago, my first year as a new retiree in Thailand - I went to the beach like you did to see the fireworks and we got there too late (because we could not find transportation out of Jomtien) to find proper seating (it was already super packed) so we just stood underneath a coconut tree (leaning on it) to watch the entire amazing firework show.
@peteonretreat202327 күн бұрын
I think we’re just going up on the hill somewhere for NYE. Since Koi doesn’t want to leave Mango alone, a hotel in the city doesn’t make sense. Debating about going to the sign or all the way to the top. The walk isn’t too much further so I think it may be the top for us.

@@peteonretreat2023Unfortunately, I will miss the fireworks this year as I will fly to the Philippines on 29 December --> as part of my Thai tax accountant approved Thai tax minimilazition plan. I will need to stay out of Thailand for > 180 days in the 2025 tax year to avoid becoming a tax resident. I will use year 2025 to top up my Thai bank account for 2025 and 2026. This will allow me to be able to stay in Thailand for all of tax year 2026 --> when I will become a tax resident --> BUT I won't have any Assessable Income [inbound bank transfers from abroad] in tax year 2026. I will need to repeat this "out of Thailand" strategy in 2 more biennial cycles - in tax years 2027 and 2029. Then in 2030 I can apply for the BOI LTR Wealthy Pensioner visa - which is exempt from Thai income tax. I have to wait so long because my social security won't kick in until my age 67, when I will be able to meet the Wealthy Pensioner requirement of $80,000 USD in passive income verified on your home country tax return in the prior 2 years - at which point I will be age 69. Ugly - but when I chose Thailand for my retirement country back in 2020 - There was not in existance this new ugly tax requirement to tax what we bring into Thailand 🤮🤢

I’m always astounded by the amazing displays-and enormous quantities-of food at these Thai festivals!! (I also wonder how much of it actually gets eaten-and what happens to the rest!)
@peteonretreat202327 күн бұрын
A ton of it gets eaten for sure. We are good about getting to the food early before it gets really crazy. I have no idea about the leftovers though. Bertie is talking about starting a food bank... I wonder if we might be able to get leftovers from here?

@ Great thought, although I’ve heard/read that (at least in the US) the logistics and health concerns make that goal challenging. (Rachel worked in a fancy bakery here, and they threw out tons of perfectly good bread and pastries etc. She started bringing big bags home and tried to find takers. Of course, we gained five pounds each.’!! Eventually, the bakery did find a charity to take the leftovers.)

Okay too funny! I always stay at The Base Central Pattaya which I will be staying at this coming Friday so Koi will be able to remember where to drop me off as I am using her ride service but as funny as that is, the funnier part of this is a couple years ago, I took a bolt from airport to The Base and they took me to where you just stayed above the 7-11, backwards from your ordeal. Anyway, last year when I was there during New Years Eve, Pattaya beach was exacly as your photo from the fireworks festival at the beginning of this vlog. I went from The Base down the alley to Beach Rd, up 2 blocks right back to 2nd street and back to my room to watch the fireworks from balcony, no way I was hanging down there elbow to elbow from water to other side of street! "Corn Dog Craving Settled For" has to be the best line you have ever used on this channel to date! haha

The opposite Base story, that is too funny! I don’t love the big crowds but I’m okay with them. For NYE this year, I think we’re going to take some chairs up the Pattaya sign and have a little picnic. It’s not that far a walk from our room and we can bring some food, snacks and drinks. What are your plans? And yes, I do see you on our calendar for Friday. 👍🏼

@@peteonretreat2023 I think your plan is awesome! That should be a great view of the whole bay for the fireworks show and maybe a little less congested lol As for me, I will be in Phuket on New Years. I kind of go back and forth year to year and since Pattaya was last year, this year I will spend Dec 22 - Jan 7 in Phuket before heading back to Vegas. I am hoping next year will be my last vacation here and the following year I will finally get to move out to Thailand. That is the plan anyway and at worst, it will be the year after that worst case.
