Australia is out of control and we all want the new car credit cards loans for this loans for that. Eating out is insane here I still do it but u really feel it because fuel costs and if u shop at Cole’s / Woolworths etc u get 1 bag if ur lucky with minimal shit for 120 Aussie. We taxed so much on everything. We get double taxed on fuel our utilities that should be cheap as we have all the resources are not cheap because the government sells offshore and we buy back at high prices but governments get their nice little kick backs so they don’t give a shit our tolls on roads that our taxes are meant to take care of are high to buy and rent prices are through the roof. I would much rather be a cheap Charlie on a beach in a modest little condo exploring and enjoying life than working as many do 60 plus hrs a week to keep up with inflation and costs of living. I wish I had this mind set even just a decade ago I would be out of Australia already

The way I look at things is......we're all in different boats but on the same ocean. The older I've got the less I spend in Pattaya, not something I tried to do. But the closer I've got to retirement the less I go out drinking. I still enjoy 1 or 2 mad nights a week in Patts, but increasingly most nights I go out for dinner, night markets, cinema or just 1 or 2 beers and a few games of pool etc. Spending lots of money is not = having fun. My retirement will be next year so hopefully I'll see you in Jomtien or Pattaya. I absolutely love the place. There's only family here in Wales to keep me here, but as my son says.... I have a duty to be happy for myself. I do intend to visit family in UK on holidays, and even have them come out to Thailand to see them. Life is too short. I am looking to retire out there next year and was wondering if you could recommend an agent to obtain a retirement visa and how much they will charge? Thanks . Keep up the great work. Alan.

It should cost you about 35 thousand bhatt for a retirement visa no more..plenty of agents around in Bangkok or pattaya there roughly all the same. Then renewing it after a year 15/18 k in bhatt. Remember 90 days report as well to do

I joined you, admittedly with a return flight (anyone want to buy it?). I wish my rent was the same but once my 60 day visa is up I might move to a cheaper place, not on par with yours but I like the look of it. It is like a family here at DIana and if you are ever over this way then pop in and I will buy you either a coffee or a beer, no Guiness this side. #409 in the Lodge. I would recommend moving here to any of your viewers. Everyone is so much happier here and it is great to be able to smile at people without offending them.

You'll be fine, I spend winters there now after Christmas and summers in Europe having left the UK some 20 years ago. There are lots of golden rules but here's a couple... its always 'Your money me' and never offer to replace the dead buffalo. I have an account with K Bank if you have a retirement visa you should be fine in applying.
@KB3TLE18 сағат бұрын
The visa fees and / or what that adds is more than some may have or be willing to tie up ? ( The 800,000 Baht required ? ) Not something I would want to do ! > CAMBODIA has a way better 'retirement visa' for expats over 55. Awesome - cheap and no requirements ! - - - My US retirement on SS is $1500 USD / mo. and it is said by some to not be enough in Thailand ?!? They suggest $2,000 USD / mo. minimum ! --?-- Who to believe ? = Thinking of just moving to Siem Reap - where many live quite well on $800 USD reported by US expats. And then just visit Thailand & see for myself ? Some of them used to live in Thailand - and - still visit friends over there - from when they lived there. - - - I'm frugal enough I 'know' I should be just fine in Siem Reap. A few areas in the Philippines are also easily doable on about $800 USD / mo. in recurring expenses. 🤔 Some 700,OOO US expats already living there.

Add Vietnam for 90 day holidays or Albania no visa needed with US passport. Now will Albania get more expensive like Bulgaria has big question given Ukrainians have moved in no fault of their own. Better options than tying up $24k in Thai account imo

Fair play to you, Wyn. You appear to be living the best life you can and seem to be a very happy man as a result. I would be interested in knowing if you have a Plan B, though? I appreciate enjoying life to the full as much as possible is always a calculated risk but have you got contingencies in place to deal with serious health care issues, for example, as I know of a fair number of people over the years who were compelled to return to the UK to live because of this and their return is usually down to health care costs as opposed to quality of health care in south east asia. Good luck to you either way.
