you have to check disc runout when fitting new discs otherwise broke judder after a while, also copper grease is a no no these days, attracts dust and crud and pads all come with inbuilt backing to stop noise

Good video lads. I followed it step by step. I've replaced my pads before but did the discs as well this time. Just one thing I put the pads in the same as what you show in the video with the low indicator clip to the top of the pad but my brakes are still screeching when braking even after a month now. I look at the pad on the outside and the pad looks slanted and I'm sure it should be flush to the disc. Basically the whole lower edge touches the disc and slopes Away towards the top. Have I put the discs on the wrong sides? The passenger sides to the drivers side. Should the clip be at the bottom not the top!

Don't you have to open the bleed nipples when you press the caliper piston back? I have read that you can ruin the abs unit if you don't do that on the Astra H

Useful video you guys. Nice wheels too. Words from a retited tire fitter. :¬) Everyone, you need to be careful with your wheel bolts on all alloy wheels. They should be undone gradually and in a triangular/star point pattern, so that each bolt is followed by it's opposite number, sort of thing. Set your torque wrench to 50ft/lb to undo and do all of them to the click. After that, then you can spin them out. And, obviously the same for doing them up.

if you have ABS and push the pad back in which will force the fluid back in you will ruin your ABS the correct method is to clamp the brake line put a hose over the bleed nipple crack the bleed screw then compress the piston

I've seen 2 questions on hear regarding the danger of damaging the abs module and nobody has answered them? Let me also add that I have also heard that by doing it this way and forcing fluid back to the master cylinder that you could damage the seals on the master cylinder , any comments on this guys? As a new master cylinder would cost a fortune to replace. I have a Meriva 12 plate and I have done it this way without issue , however I was really worried after wood that I could of damaged something, but also undo the calliper nipple and use a one way bleed tube might be a safer way, but then using a brake clamp may damage the brake pipe ".........hmm what's the best and safe way I wonder to do it like a professional would??
@bluudysgarage
@bluudysgarage 7 жыл бұрын
David Collins great comment. we are fully trained mechanics and this is the way we are taught to wind back the pistons abs module or not. your other option would be to remove each caliper. wind them in. re attached and re bleed all the brakes. regards Bluudy

no your wheel balancing if effected by your tyres and your alignment is effected through repairs to your steering system, most typically track rod ends :)

With the bolt that holds the disc on, 5:53 - the one on my Vauxhall Agila is a screw, not allen key; it's seized and I've fucked the screwdriver thread trying to get the screw off and used a ton of WD40. I've had to put the old brake pads back on and seek advice. Any ideas how I can get the discs off? Thanx in advance :D

Leaves the caliper hanging from the brake hose at 3:49. This can damage the brake hose which will require replacing the hose and having to bleed the system. A rookie mistake.
@bluudysgarage
@bluudysgarage 3 жыл бұрын
If your caliper weighs as much as the moon perhaps. But in reality the toughen rubber hose can handle the little bit of weight for the sake of a couple of minutes. Amateurs often make the mistake. Most veteran mechanics and people who do this for a living will hang/place the caliper on the wish bone.

Any issues with replacing the discs and NOT replacing the pads? Pads are only a couple months old, but discs are in dire need of replacement...

I would not recommend. any deformation on the old disc would have marked/ grooved the pads and this may cause the new disc to wear incorrectly. bluudy
