Don't let the ending fool ya. Those things were evil too. They killed the man's wife and abducted his son. He let his greed control him at the expense of his kid and wife.

No, it's not what happened, as far as I could hear. It's very hard to understand what the man's whispering, but I listened several times and I'm sure what he said: "They only take the living. So how can you stop them from taking someone you love?" He explicitly implied that he killed his wife and child, and also this is confirmed by later words of Mike:"You are no father. No husband. You are a monster." So no, they didn't take his family. I also paused at newspaper articles and what I gathered is, the man took the baby alien, and then said "sorry, I lied, there was no sauser". That is the whole reason why aliens kept him alive. They were searching for their kid to bring him back to life since they can. The guy was just possessed by greed and insane inhumanity and didn't want to give it back.

Also, the plot makes way more sense that way. This man was a monster and a murderer and he was essentially punished by "hell" (his own version of it). If you remove that meaning, you get some weird alien race that for no reason whatsoever refuse to take or let die an innocent man who is of no value to them. Let alone the fact that the whole biblical layer of meaning disappears completely. I don't think you can ignore the biblical meaning in this movie because it is shown too clearly to ignore.

It was very hard indeed but in earphones I managed to decipher all of it. The movie does need CCs though. Especially for the guy upstairs. I had to rewind like dozens of times.

I have only one question. Why did they return the evil guy back to life? I think it would make more logical and moral sense if he stayed dead. But then again if, say, we take this story from a biblical point of view then perhaps he was "forgiven and reborn" (since he was returned not as an old self, but young, pre-alien self).
