I agree - I was rubbish at art and felt that I would never be good at it. I kind of dabbled a bit as I got older but never "felt it". I think I was about 45 when I took a class - I say class - it was "here copy that" :) but I really enjoyed it. I have painted in watercolour and pastels and acrylics and now do mixed media for the last year and a half and am LOVING it!. I love experimenting and finding "my thing", albeit 11 years later!. You are never too old or talentless, you just need to keep going to find out what you enjoy and what resonates with you - that's where your talent is xx

I am a graphic designer from Germany and have always been good at drawing like houses, people, animals, plants... I have a lot of imagination and know I'm at least kind of talented. But to let go of the thought that everything must look like something real and "pretty" and pleasing, and to instead just freely express myself, took me a couple of decates. I have been trying to produce abstract art in that way for a while now but at one point just got stuck. Now I know that all I needed was a good teacher and the courage to keep going. Since I've started watching your videos I could really make some progress and it is so much more fun now. Thank you!

This is a great video! I did end up doing art in highschool, but was told it wasn't a career choice. I'm now in my 50's and have decided to get back into art and creating. I've been going for a year and am now and experimenting with a few different Mediums but there are so many to try.

When you said that maybe some of us were not encouraged or our attempts were squashed, and that maybe someone else is better in the family? Oh my gosh! This is exactly what happened to me. How funny at 55 you found your "voice" for art. I was 55 when my youngest sister encouraged me to paint again. The past year has been so rewarding for myself and my art. Thank you for reinforcing this mind set.

I know I am not gifted. I have had to sit with this for a long time as I look at other artist works. Comparison is a killer of artistic passion. I have about quit art as evidenced by tubes of dried out paint, and stacks of blank papers. I have had art in junior college at it was quite competitive, I ended up leaving the art field and pursued social sciences. Now that I am retired I wonder about how far I could have went if I never was compared to other artist in College ie (grading, shows in college gallery). Maybe some day, I will try again'

I don't like the word talented. Or talent. It takes tons of practice to become a good artist. You must spend time with paper, pen, pencil, bushes, palette knives, canvases, etc. Spend the time enjoying the creative process and watch what happens.
