That's a zorn palette - yellow, red, black and white. It is a classic!

I used to absolutely hate abstract paintings but for some reason I recently felt super strong urges to do abstract paintings 🤷♀️

Interestingly this can be done by men equally well - besides what this feminist propaganda would have you believe.

Agreed. Abstract is very tricky. You have to learn the rules of color theory, line, space, form, etc., and then you have to know how to break the rules in such a specific way that makes it look like there were no rules to begin with. It's a weird type of inverted logic that works against itself just enough to captivate.

I love your artwork and I have bought a few of your lessons, as well as your beautiful book Life Force. Unfortunately I am unable to join Art Tribe. I'm a retired art teacher focusing on Textile art. I now produce Abstract paintings and I find your videos very helpful and interesting. Thank you. Gillian

I love watching your creative process & recently got a sketchbook. You sprayed something over the pages, is it varnish? Wondering if I need to varnish the pages once done?

Thank you, Louise! 😃This inspires me to be more free in my sketchbook, rather than 'editing' it (i.e. pulling out pages🙄 for reusing as collage or scrap paper), as I sometimes do when I really dislike what I've done. I like using acrylic paint straight out of the tube - cool to see you do it with watercolour! Thanks again!x❤d

I hadn't thought of watercolour and gesso, though I've tried it with gouache before. Another artist I came across sometimes mixes white acrylic ink with watercolour to achieve another kind of opaque result. I still have to try that one myself. Thanks for the talk-through of your processes.

Great video on sketchbooks! I'd love to do the Sketchbook Course. I love the videos because I can see how you hold your brush, make the marks, decide to add highlight here and there. As I can be heavy handed and wreck what I've done, this is very valuable. Thanks Louise. You're a great teacher!

Thanks Louise. I began my own sketchbook in September and love working in it. It is so freeing to just let go and play. Love it. I usually tape off the edges of the paper…like those clean edges.

I've always wanted to keep an art journal, but it's never happened, for reasons I can't identify. That is, I've never done it until taking the current FYJ course! Keeping track of my progress, taking notes, trying things out, and having a record of my journey...yes, please!
@yopestevens150513 күн бұрын
Hi, Louise! Just dropping in to say that if I had not developed a habit of having a sketchbook at my elbow for the past 3 years, I would not be where I am today in my painting journey. I cannot think I would have learned the freedom FYJ encourages without them. I am now able to approach good paper and canvases with the same initial freedom, AND make it appear as though that freedom is carried right through to the finish, even though I am making much more deliberate moves by then. I have a small stack of my booky-books (as I call them😊) that I constantly refer to for inspiration, color schemes, mark-making ideas, and sometimes (on those bad-thought days) just to remind myself that yes, I. Am. An. Artist!
