Abstract Landscape with a Limited Palette

Applying paint on a whim and straight out of the tube can be tempting (I’ve done it a lot!), but it can also lead to a painting that doesn’t harmonize and you may find that you keep using the same colors over and over. In this video, I am practicing painting without an agenda and using only two colors (Yellow Gold and Quinacridone Magenta + black + white). By working with an extremely limited palette, I increase my ability to mix colors, learn to be more creative within those limitations, as well as grow my understanding of how colors in a palette can all be used to make the colors you apply to your painting, thereby creating a natural harmony.

yes, I seal it with Liquitex Satin Varnish. IF there’s any water-soluble elements, I give them a quick once over with spray varnish to lock them in place before I brush on varnish.

I like to use Golden liquid glazing medium, and you can also use Golden matte medium. These both work really well to adhere the paper to the surface and also blend in with the acrylic paint you might be using.
