For this project, I decided to use an array of shells that I already had in my stash of products. I had been asked by several people to come up with new ideas other than regular beach scenes for using shells and this is what I came up with.
I coloured the shells using India ink, which was diluted with a tiny bit of water and left them to dry. While that was drying, I painted the board white and left that to dry also. Next, I mixed a small amount of sparkle pigment to give the base a nice glittery finish before adding the shells and stones. Once positioned how I wanted them, I then added some pigment to the resin and poured it over the shells and stones. Then using a little heat, I warmed the edges of the colour resin to help it spread out to the edges of the board.
Here is a list of the products used:
• MDF round board (50cm diameter)
• Shells
• White Stones: amzn.to/2Wbqkwl
• Artisue Powder Pigment - Sparkle White
• India Ink: amzn.to/2TiyYDy - US | amzn.to/2Stcn8R - UK | amzn.to/2JIzY1c - AU
• Colour Arte - Rezin Art Lustre Pigments - Aquamarine: bit.ly/rezinarteaquamarine

I like this one very much, but I love the way you seem to just throw the shells and stones on, and it looks stunning. If I had done the same you'd think some had had an accident. Instead of 'That's beautiful' as we do with yours because they are beautiful, they would look at mine and say 'never mind, nice try'. xx😊💖

love that Sue, very soft and fresh looking with those subtle colours. Sea glass would go well with something like this. I share your love for sparkle and glass diamonds, for me live is brighter with some shine in it. My first resin art, other than as a top coat, I put what i thought was a tiny bit of mica powder. its was waaay too much. I learned quickly how little you need if you want to keep resin translucent as I do, and I see in most of your artworks. Soon - I hope - my art studio/garage conversion will be ready, no painting for me for a year now :-( but I've a whole list of things to try thanks to artists such as yourself, who've let me get my art fix vicariously.... Have you seen the vids from a duo called positive couple? He makes mostly furniture with resin finish and has some incredibly unique ideas. He did a very baroque style bathromm unit recnetly with beach pebbles covered in gold leaf, oysters shells covering the top. Not what i'd want in my bathroom (my style is totally opposite!) but incredibly different, and amazing to see constructed from scratch. Its in Russian ( or somewhere with similar language) but occasional english tips pop up and he makes it so clear what he's doing all the while its easy to follow anyway.

Hi there Sue Love your work and I am a big user of Mother Natures offerings of sea shells, sand, bark etc. I have had a couple of attempts at using resin but any time I did it fish eyed on on drying. I had cleaned my Pour Paintings down with Isocol alchohol and allowed it to dry and the only time I found it came up perfectly was when I got hubby to apply it with the spray gun but he is such a busy man. I see you just applied the resin with the appropriate protective gloves by hand. Is it at a specific room temperature or did you just have the resin a tad on the warm side. Thank you in advance. Heather. Oh Hi from Temora NSW Australia
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 2 жыл бұрын
I don't have my room at a particular temperature, although I prefer to pour it between 25-30 degrees. I don't pre-warm the resin. 💕

So beautiful, Sue! Why did you decide to use the india ink instead of just another pigment?
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 4 жыл бұрын
I like those particular colours, plus, if I used pigments, I would’ve had to use a binder of some description for it to stick to the shells.
