My mother in law moved near the ocean last year and we went for a visit this summer. My boys are 5 and 7 and we wanted to make some kind of beach art, they collected a bag of sea shells and I think this would be the perfect thing to try for them to make this year for a christmas gift for grandma
@SueFindlay2 жыл бұрын
Nice. Note, I wouldn't recommend allowing your children to work with resin. Resin is a chemical and many people have developed allergic reactions. My suggestion is to get your boys to glue the shells to a board. You could always add resin at a later date. 💕

Hi Sue, do the cells appear because of the pigment you used or is it from the resin? Great piece! I would love to try this!
@SueFindlay5 жыл бұрын
It is a combination of both, I have found the Le Rez Angel White paste to be the best for making cells and lacing. Heat plays a big factor also, I find it more difficult in the winter to achieve cells and lacing. So the use of a blow torch definitely helps. Just be careful not to burn your resin when using heat. Plus, always wear the appropriate safety gear when torching. The thicker your resin, the harder it is to achieve cells and lacing as well.

Hi Sue, Im going to attempt this tomorrow. I was to curious to know how much pigment you put in each cup for one of these art pieces? Im so excited!!! Your work is amazing.
@SueFindlay4 жыл бұрын
I don't use a lot, I don't measure it as such, I scoop about a quarter of a teaspoon. When mixed in the resin, lift your stick out and let it run back into the cup, you will be able to see if the resin is still transparent and if you need to add more pigment. 💕

Thank you Sue, you have inspired me to quit work and retire do resin art for art shows. I started in July I and I sold my first 3. I used real sand from Lake Superior but I use liquid glue to hold it together then I resin over everything. I am making 5 today for an art show this weekend. Thank you so much for you inspiration. I really need to order the white for the waves but I have not been able to get it as it has been on backorder. Waves are the hardest part for me. I find it not as easy as yo make it. I am a very messy resin artist. I have never worked with resin but once I got my fingers in it I was sucked in to the silkiness of the paint I was doomed. My 4 year old granddaughter said "Nana you just can't wait to get your fingers into the paint again can you". Out of the mouth of babes. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Oh Sue, this is so BEAUTIFUL! I'm a beginner in resin art but I've done a lot of other art in my life. I have all the colors except the Le-Rez white (I think that is how it is spelled. Anyway, over 22 + yrs ago when my husband and I were married we went to East Coast here in the US for our honeymoon. We live in Colorado which is all mountains, not any beaches around. On our honeymoon, I just had to bring home a huge ziplock bag of the white, white sand from Cape Cod. I knew I wanted to use it in a art project but never found one. UNTIL TONIGHT! I may make something for my husband's office for our anniversary this yr. which is later in the fall. First I'm going to make a few other things until I get use to using the resin, etc. I have all colors of mica' from soap making, and all kinds of colors of inks from card making, and glitter glass and glitter. I have tons of materials. One question. HOW big in circumference is the board you used? I'm not good with meterics but I will ask my husband or google it. THANK YOU so much. You make it look so easy. I subscribed and easily gave a thumbs UP! I know i will learn a lot from you! Stay safe from this Pandemic the world is going through. Blessings~

Hi Victoria, I am glad you have found a use for your sand 💕 the board is 33cm wide (about 13 inches). You can get the same lacing effects from Langridge pigment powder. You just have to make a paste first from the powder, make sure you mix it very well. Use the epoxy part of your resin to make the paste. Don’t use the hardener. You can store any excess in an airtight container. Good luck with your project 💕
