The “Alexandra limp” reminds me of how people fake mental illness to be “quirky.” Kind of the same vibe. I guess people never change.

It’s so annoying I’m actually autistic and I have to fight these people that think being forgetful or obsessive is the basis for having autism and they say “I never when to a psychiatrist to get it confirmed. I just think I am”

History is honestly full of stupid naming conventions. Listening to you rage about the name of some of these, was great

Oh dear. The Hawaiian Pineapple story with Dole is a wild ride. A lot of pseudo slavery and murder mostly but it was comparable to the Banana situation in central America. It starts with monopolized foreign owned factories controlling the economy of the whole island and it ends with the monarch of a nation being held and gunpoint to become the 50th state of the USA.

The reason for the long toes on the shoes was basically to say "I have so much money that I can afford to waste it on unnecessarily excessive material that serves literally no purpose!" It's a similar reason why lawns became a thing

Maybe it’s a country folk thing but I like a good yard purely because it brings life to the area. A nice trimmed yard, flowers, maybe a tree. You can relax outside in a nice space and it pretties up the area. I can barely stand urban life and I would die in a city because nature is seen as a commodity and a privilege.

@@Broomer52original lawns were literal square kilometres of perfectly fertile land around your house. The modern lawn is a reasonable utilitarian version of that

@@Azrael178 utilitarian in what way? I see no real function other than to preserve a patch of nature in an otherwise concrete environment

@@Broomer52 utilitarian in a way that its much smaller then the original concept and isn't usually land that could be cultivated for crop use. Also, the spacing is big enought to prevent chain housefires and provides the place for kids to be out and play without a need to depend on publickly designated spaces. The original was just a flex, the modern one is a flex with additional benefits

@@Broomer52 because lawns are typically an introduced monoculture of grass rather than something that's actually native and leads to way less biodiversity than what would otherwise be growing there. Lawns are basically useless as far as actual nature goes especially since people mow them and keep them short. Since they're also typically not a native grass they use way more water than native grasses do cause they aren't adapted to the particular environment. It's a big part of why the save the bees movement is a thing alongside the amount of honeybees because having lawns and reducing the biodiversity makes it so there's less stuff for the native bees to survive on especially when being outcompeted by invasive European honeybees. The native pollinators just can't take all the different stresses together and honeybees can't pollinate a lot of stuff that native bees can such as tomatoes. Honeybees were the face of the movement but they aren't the ones that need help and are a big part of the problem since they're livestock

The armour version of krakows or poulaines was very much not worn in battle and designed to be easily removable and/or worn over the actual foot armour, no idea where he gets the cutting off part from, plate armour was modular and different parts could be switched for the appropriate occasion. The armour he uses in the video is 15th century while Leopold III died in the 1380s, I would be sceptical without a good citation on that story.
