Fun fact, the King of Mali and his philanthropy trip actually crashed the gold market singlehandedly. He had so much gold from his kingdom that as he traveled east, he'd just throw bags and bags of gold coins and things out to the gathering peasants who collected so much gold that they now had more on a personal level than their own economy had before, making ALL the gold worth next to nothing because food was now more rare than gold.

If you were to play a historical map of China along the last 4000 years, it would look like a spasming epileptic blob with its pants on fire. No other country shifted and transformed as much as China. Apart the two prominent dynasties that comprise the total of 500 years of their stability, this country never've gone more than 70 years without an apocalyptic civil war, most of the times due to the impoverished farmers in inner China. They're still at it to this very day, and the farmers are angry once again :D
