I think that's what beautiful is that even though this is just an album deep cut song that Taylor is playing it on her tour. That means her grandmother still gets to sing and be heard all over the world. ❤

Yes, Taylor’s grandmother went to my high school in St. Charles, MO, and attended Lindenwood College. Taylor still has family in the area. Also, the singing you hear at the end is Marjorie. This song was a sleeper for me until I saw the Eras tour movie and really listened to the lyrics. I bawled my eyes out.

The lyric, “ I should've asked you questions I should've asked you how to be Asked you to write it down for me Should've kept every grocery store receipt 'Cause every scrap of you would be taken from me Watched as you signed your name Marjorie All your closets of backlogged dreams And how you left them all to me” Gets me everytime. I lost both my grandparents one in my teens and my dad’s mom after I turned 30. This song makes me miss them so much and those lyrics really strike an undeniable cord in my heart.

"Every scrap of you would be taken from me..." it just 'hits different' after loss, doesn't it? My grandparents were literally my biggest supporters in anything I tried - and I have ADHD so I try a LOT... I was so thankful to them both, lost my Pa in 2003, and then my Nanna in 2019, there's always things I remember, that I can still hear and feel. certain words and sentences they always said to me... I never got to meet my Mum's parents, her mother died a month before I was born, and mum was still alone and Dad's parents basically became her parents... til the days they both passed. love we are given from the ones before us is just such a gift.

I’m forever grateful to Marjorie. She’s the reason we have Taylor’s music now, I feel. She admired her grams so much that she wanted to grow up to be a performer too, and now all of our lives are better for it.

Marjorie and her family also moved to Singapore and lived there what sounds like about 18 months; she performed with the Singapore opera while there! (This also means her mom lived in Singapore as a kid.) It goes a long way in explaining how Taylor became who she is ( vs who the GOP thought she was).

My mom's name was Marjorie and my daughter loves this song because it reminds her of her grandma. My mom was a singer, with one recording to her credit. She won a singing contest and the prize was to record two songs. Side 1 was called There Are Such Things and the flip side was her sorority song, The Girl of Sigma Beta.
