Excellent video! Ill definitely be following your instruction on my abus. Ive had the 6500 c3 apart, but I've not pulled my 6500 pro rockets apart. Other than the clicker i would guess they're the same. Did you make a part 2? I was looking but couldn't find it.

Thanks for the comment. Part 2 available NOW. There is a ton of detailed information throughout the video so try not to skip around. I will get into the Pro Rockets soon. The big difference is adjustments on the spool. One thing I want to focus on is all the little things that make a difference when you work on the reels that most will people will not cover.

Mark H I needed to ask u a question. I ve been taking every piece apart and cleaning them and upgradring them for people and putting it all back together for a while but for the 1st time in a long time I've come to a stop that I dont want to mess up. I took a 6500 black rocket, 6600c4 blue and grey(newest model) and a 6500c3 Catfish special at one time and I've got it all organized and ready to put back together except the main gears. The one that goes in the 6600 is a different part number. Than the other 2. But by looking at them after I've got them clean they basically all 3 look identical. So I'm trying to figure out which one goes in the 6600 cause it's the one that is different than the other 2 but again I cant spot a difference to save my life. Is there any way you can help me sir?
@abugarciareelrepairandmain86843 жыл бұрын
I'll start with the gear ratio. That would be my only concern. the gears should be the same size but may have a different count on the teeth. The 6500 Black is 5.3:1, the 6600 C4 is 6.3:1, and the 6500 C3 Catfish is 4.1:1. You will need to count the teeth in the gears to determine the difference. Also there is a gear that meshes up the the main gear and they will be different as well. The Catfish should have more teeth. The 6600 C4 should have less. The Black in the middle. Have fun!
@abugarciareelrepairandmain86843 жыл бұрын
Make sure you check my numbers. The gear ratio is the answer you are looking for.
@abugarciareelrepairandmain86843 жыл бұрын
Me again. I looked at the #s and the Catfish is a 5.3/1 so the Catfish and Black are the same. So match 2 of them up and the odd ball is the C4.
@randallhuffstetler33383 жыл бұрын
@@abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 yes sir the Catfish special and the black rockets are 5.3:1 and the 6600 is the 6. 3:1. So there is no actual size difference ,just the amount of teeth ocorrect? And then on my pinion gears they all have 12 teeth except for 2 of them and they only Have 10. So if I'm following you correctly then the 6600 pinion gears would be the one with 10 and the 2 main gears I would count with the lowest amount will go with those. And since all my others are 5 3 1 they should match up then considering I only have 2 6600c4s correct?
@randallhuffstetler33383 жыл бұрын
But that's only of at the time in involving my 6600's . So if one day I was cleaning my 2 black rockets and my 2 Catfish specials and wasnt involving my 2 6600 the. All of those should automatically match? Sorry for being so complicated I just wanted to always make sure everything was completely right because and other time I've cleaned or updated it's always been the same type of reels, I've never done some of each at one time like I did this time. So again I apologize for all the questions sir

the website says there are 3 stainless steel ball bearings the two are in opposite sides of spool where is the 3rd located?
@abugarciareelrepairandmain86845 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply the third bearing is in the handle. It’s an anti-reverse bearing.
@MESABOOGIE013 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a 6500C4 today I took it apart to clean it. When I put it all back together, I noticed that when you pushed the button to let out the line from the spool, then clicked the handle to stop and lock the spool, the reel handle all of a sudden had a lot of backwards play before it would catch and lock. In other words, you can reel up the line, and the handle would turn about a half a turn backwards before it would catch and lock. When the reel was new, you could reel up the line and there was no backwards play in the handle at all, it stayed locked. Do you know what could be causing this problem or how to fix it from having backwards play in the handle? I realize this is a C3 video, and I’m sure the C3’s maybe different from the C4’s, but I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find any helpful information. Any information or helpful tips would be appreciated! Thank you!

It has happened to me when I first started working on reels so I think I can help. There is a 95% chance that the anti reverse bearing or sometimes called a roller bearing is overloaded with grease. This bearing is on the right side where the crank shaft is located. What happens is when overloaded with grease the rollers will start to float. At some point it will catch. To clean it you will have to take the right side off and remove as much of the grease as you can. I would stick a rag through the hole and get is somewhat snug (don't jam it) and then start to rotate the rag in the direction you would wind. You should start to see grease on the rag. You only need a thin layer and I mean thin. People love to load reels up with grease and that is a bad thing. Thin layers on everything. Hope this helps.

I have a problem. I've put back exactly the same way. I can't get the spool axle to rotate? I cant figure out why the axel isn't spinning and everything else is operating buttery. The spool axle isn't spinning the spool and anti reverse is working. When i turn the handle spool wont spin and it can be spun both directions when fully assembled.I'm stumped any ideas?
@abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 Жыл бұрын
We can try to figure this out. I assumed that the caps on the spool are not overtightened. Let’s start off with which model reel you were trying to work on my next question would be is do you have the schematic that goes to that reel schematic to make sure that you have all the parts assembled correctly?

If you are a member of Facebook, I have a site for the repair and maintenance of these reels. Search out ABU Garcia maintenance and repair. Request to join but make sure that you answer all the questions and agree to the rules or you will be disapproved Once approved, I guarantee you this group can help you figure out what’s going on.
