Nah, I disagree. Academy is badass, love that store. Comparable in price and sometimes cheaper than Wal-Mart. Much better selection too. Bass Pro, Cabela's, and often Dick's is way over-priced even if selection is better at those places compared to Academy here in Texas

i have both, basically the same.... if youre on the fence, get whichever you think looks cooler, the Lews has a more premium feel, the Abu is reliable also but has more play in the knobs making it feel cheaper.

I just got an american hero as my second bait caster to go with my abu garcia 7'6 vegence rod with an 8 baring 7:5.1 ratio diawa bait caster set up. The abu vegence rod is great for heavier lures and paired with the diawa is a pretty sweet set up. American hero is great for the price. I paid 90 for mine and my abu diawa set up was 170. American hero reels nice and smooth, cast smooth and has a decent amount of play in top quarter or so. Def grab the american hero for your collections lol. Cant beat the price for a good combo. Also in my opinion if you get an abu garcia rod dont get an abu garcia reel for it. Just buy an abu rod and pair it with a diawa or shimano or lews.

The gearing is not a big deal but 7.1 is a bit different but lower doesn't matter to much at 6.1 I use them for both for everything.

Suprising you said that my friend just had one he bought like 5 days ago and he went to cast it and the rod snapped in half just out of the random he switched to a 150 dollars lews mach speed spool 1. I just got the lews mach smash today and I can't wait to use it. I would suggest lews they have a pretty good warranty and the poles look very nice.

Doesn’t the Lews reel say it’s 6.4.1 gear ratio shows on you’re video same as Abu Garcia black maxx plus the black maxx has 18 pounds of drag compared to the lews wich has I think 10 pounds.

Lews came on the scene with bright colored rods n reels, and that was their selling point. Hook a couple 15lb redfish with a Lews, and you will regret you bought a Lews, because it “looks pretty”. Pretty doesn’t catch fish. Anglers catch fish.

If you are catching a few 15 lb fish on the normal no 70$ or even 100$ combo will hold that weight, but yeah I probably would regret not buying a heavier duty combo.

I have both. Both are a 6.4 to 1 ratio. Lews has a more sensitive rod in my opinion and is also like 6 inches longer. Abu is 6.6 or 6.10...i think. I prefer the lews for worms and whatbot and garcia for heavy brush. Price for my garcia was 50 while lews is 80

I got both and the ABU Garcia black max is better than Lew's classic for $69 each i don't like the rod with the two pieces of foam just put the hole this full one piece foam. the new graffiti is not great at all breaks to fast over the glass filled rods. I'm not getting us to the new poles it at all. Old school rod is best. Like the reels for shor top noch in both but I'll stay with Black Max.

I like the 7.1.1 because if you want to fish slower you can a 6.4.1 if you want to speed up you can't both have their uses I use a higher speed reel it's just better than a lower I even use my 7.5.1 Lew's for crank baits

I recommend both of them for beginners use American Hero as topwater and Abu Garcia with worms Jigs and Drop shots great combo to use and I'm fishing out of a 10-foot kayak which is a little more difficult but all in all using 9 as a combo is highly recommended. American Hero top topwater Abu Garcia worms and jigs I use the Carolina rig with the Abu Garcia. Works great American hero I use for topwaters frogs great combo for about $210
