Don’t know if it’s a new update. But I only set my PodPoint to Allow charging from 1130pm and plugged the cable in about 9pm. At 1130 the car started charging. I will plug it in earlier and earlier until I work out the optimum time to seek a charge at night. Great video. Glad it wasn’t just my car and App

A GREAT video and well explained and well presented. Thank you, for the facts and honesty. As a Newbies to this range/car and the knowledge of a ‘pea’ it’s all fuel to the fire. Po-point are about to install the charging point and they seem so far to be a complete bunch of muppets ! Keep up the good work. 🙏

Nicely explained video on the charging of the i-Pace. This is helpful for me as hoping to becoming a new owner relatively soon and for others out there.

Thanks. You may find that this information is redundant actually. I have recently had update H228 applied and since then the car waits for the charger to start for as long as it takes. There is now no need for me to do this procedure. I just set the times I want on my charger’s built in timer, plug the car in and that’s all I need to do now. H228 seems to fix the fact that the car used to stop looking for a charge after a few minutes. New cars should be delivered with H228 already done so you may find you’ll only need this is you don’t have a smart charger at home with a built in timer.

I pick up my Ipace tomorrow and since its 5 months since the last post I wondered what is the current situation with timed charging, I have had a Zappi charger fitted and my plan was to programme the zappi and the Jaguar ipace app both to come on at 00.30 and off at 04.30. Great channel by the way. I am hoping that the issue is now resolved.

Hi Paul. First of all thanks for watching. Second of all, congratulations on the new car! The more recent software on the I-Pace has resolved this now. All you need to do is set a timer on your Zappi. Don’t even worry about using the car software. Set your Zappi with a timer for 00:30 to 04:30, plug the car in and walk away. Early software versions on the car would stop looking for a charge after a few minutes. But the current software keeps looking for a charge continuously after you plug in, so you shouldn’t need to set the preferred timing in the car at all.

Yes there are some other solutions out there, but the Ohme charger is one of the best. I’ve even been considering replacing my Wallbox.

I bought my Ohme charger from Smart Home Charge. And as I’m not very Tech minded I have found them to be great with very helpful advice.

Perfect explanation - I wonder if I use the same 6pm method (or any other time) - if the car will sit in my work car park and pre-condition itself at that time and waste power?

It would, but all you need to do is delete the departure time when you get in to set off for work in the morning. I’ve started using 23:00 by the way, rather than 18:00.

I thought it was just me that couldn't make sense of it! I am looking into joining Octopus energy GO tariff to make use of the cheap night Kwh's. As you correctly say the ipace preferred charging period is more a preferred charging start time so I am toying with the idea of using a timed fuse in the consumer unit to turn off the wall charger at 4.30am. If I did this it would obviously be an instant shut off of power so wondering if this have any negative effect on either the car or my home charge point?? FYI.. I have a 'new motion' home charge point that as far as I am aware doesnt have timed charging. Thanks in advance

Hi. Thanks. I’ve had reports from a few people who have used wifi switches to start and stop their charges with no issue. That would be the same sudden start and stop process.I’ve no personal experience of it, but others have used it with no issues I’m aware of.

Interesting, I have been using Octopus Intelligent and had no issues until the recent software update. After the update a schedule was added to the car which I didn't need, suddenly my car stopped charging at 4am. I have modified the end time to 10am and it's working again, even though I don't want or actually use the schedule in the car because Octopus tell the car when to charge. I wish I could simply disable the schedule but I can't see how to do it.

Hi Paul, I am having my iPace delivered this month and has started to view on line videos like yours (very helpful by the way 👏👏). I got my head around the charging issue you describe and them spotted your response to the message below, 6 months ago, that the issue had been solved ie. just set the charger (Ohme for me) to the desired time and the car will charge without any further set up. Do you know if this is still the case. Thanks

Hi Ray. I see Paul never replied. I assume you’ve worked it out by now, but yes you can now just set your Ohme to control charging, plug your carbon and forget it. When this video was made, that didn’t work, but software revisions mean the car now looks for a charge constantly after you plug it in, so you can now just use your charger. This process is only required really if you have a “dumb” charger with no timers etc.

Just wanted to say thank you to Abu Dhabi Dude for a great video. There were only 2 things driving me mad with our I-P. Timed charging - looks like I have to put a false departure time on 11pm to get charging to start at 1am the night before. Bonkers. The other one was rusty rear discs. I am now getting to grips with this by very hard braking in the first 15% of a full battery when only the friction brakes are working. Have you any thoughts on this or better still videos?

I do the same thing with the brakes. Not exceptionally hard but just make sure to use them occasionally to keep them scrubbed. I’ve not had rusted discs but I’ve always done this since I got the car. Partly because we live in a coastal area so I was already very aware of corroding discs as a possibility and knew that if I wasn’t using the brakes it would likely become an issue. As you say, after a 100% charge there’s a period with less regen anyway so that’s a good time to use the brakes.

Still doesn’t work for me, my 2020 iPace with Podpoint charger starts charging straight away even when half full and with hours left. I can’t believe Jaguar can’t just add a button to ask if you want the car to be full or not. This is annoying enough to make me buy a Kia next time. Well this and the lane keep assist which, on our narrow country lanes, keeps steering me into oncoming traffic. Too much tech, if I wanted the car to do the driving I’d have bought a Tesla. 🙁 I am now experimenting with using my Bulb Electricity app which seems to talk with the Jaguar Remote app to turn on charging when I want it. Still came on too early last night though.

Hello Dude! Nice video! Just seen the video and wondering whether at present the timed charging settings still look the same? I have not got my Ipace yet , but I ll have a PodPoint installed soon (does not come with a timer) and planning to switch to a E7 tariff... Will I really have to wake up at midnight and plug the car?

If you follow the steps in the video, you’ll be able to get the car to start charging at whatever time your E7 starts. But you won’t be able to make it stop charging. It will just start at your allotted time and then charge to 100%. To get it to stop at a set time you need a charger with a timer unfortunately.

Wally 88 tye only one I know of which has a cable tidy is the Andersen charger. The cable winds around neatly but they are not cheap!

Wally 88 I should add that my Wallbox Pulsar is tethered. There are many which are. Zappi 2, Wallbox Pulsar to name a couple. But the cable just hangs. Mine came with a wall hanger which the type 2 connector clips into but the cable doesn’t wind up neatly. Mine is in the garage so it’s fine. I added a hook to hang the cable on and keep it off the floor.

Well I thought it was cracked at last. I followed your instructions but alas the blue light only flashed for a split second before the green kicked-in. I tried several times making sure that departure time was in the distant future and the given time period was more than enough to reach 100%, but no joy. I then tried the granny charger. Partial success. Blue light and it waited until the appointed hour. Unfortunately it decided not to switch off. You won’t be surprised I know. I was dispairing at this point given that my Zappi was also unable to stop the charge at the set time. Anyway, no to bore you with the details of the charger problems a firmware update to it meant it now both starts and stops. Now to the real point of this post. I plugged my I-Pace in at 17:55 in the evening and it started charging on the Octopus Go tariff at 00:30 and stopped at 04:30. I wonder if there is another update that you might benefit from. (I took delivery of mine 31st May VIN 8000+ ). Of course mine could have been a ‘one-off’ fluke. So I’m happy ...except that it’s the first time I’ve charged to 100% and range shows only 207 miles. 😕 I wouldn’t mind but I’ve been driving sedately with wifey in the car almost exclusively. Anyway, good luck with ChargePoint Scotland. If I thought I could rely on them I’d likely consider a holiday trip to Scotland.

tarteletto Hi there. Thanks for watching! I’m amazed this didn’t work for you. Are you sure you didn’t accidentally set the timer for that day rather than the next day? I only ask because I managed to do that once and the car started charging. On your second point, are you saying that the car started and stopped itself without any need for setting the stop timer on the charger? Or did it get to 100% before 04:30? I’ve never heard of the car stopping itself before it got to 100%. If I want to charge I have to set a stop timer on my charger. The easy way to think of it is that the car controls the start time and the charger controls the stop time. I’ve started setting my departure timer for 23:00 the next day now. And thanks. CPS is quite an adventure! They’re never dull, that’s for sure!

@@AbuDhabiDude Yes departure time definitely set for next day, especially after your warning...and I got it to delay charging when using the granny charger. On the second point I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear; the charger did the timing i.e. both started and stopped the charge (Jag not involved). The reason I thought you'd find it interesting was because of your experience of the I-Pace getting bored checking if it can get a charge and giving up within the hour. I'll be plugging in at all sorts of times in future so if I have any issues I'll let you know. It bugs me that I can't make it delay the start of charging so I might pursue it. Certainly a Siri action that tells Jaguar remote app to start/stop the charge is something I'll investigate when I've got time. PS maybe my Zappi charger has a way of telling the Jag that it can charge so it waits patiently, whilst not actually giving the juice 'til the appropriate hour, keeping it 'on-the-hook' so to speak.

I've heard a few other people say that they can start and stop with the charger alone, but mine stopped doing that after the an update was applied by the dealer (can't remember which one off the top of my head). After that was when it "got bored" and stopped looking for a charge. I've already done a Siri Shortcut to start charging. One telling it to stop is almost useless though, as it actually only pauses it for a bit and then the car decides to start charging again! As for your experience with the blue light going green straight away, I have seen that happen before, but it only stayed green for a short time. I think it was the car testing what power it was receiving from the charger so that it could measure when it would get to 100%. It only went green for a short time and then went back to blue. Not sure if that's maybe what you experienced, or if there's something weird going on with your setup.

Interesting what you said about Siri. I've had no problem getting the app to stop charging permanently so it would be odd if when Siri executes the same command it somehow gets overridden a short while later and resumes charging. It just shows you can't take anything for granted.

Anders Røil Thanks for watching. There’s a few ways of doing it. Depends on a few variables. If the car can get to 100% before 8am then you can just set your departure time to 8am. The cabin will still precondition although the battery won’t. If you also want to precondition the battery, then you would have to set departure time to 8am and also set the charger to keep running until then. You have to bear in mind though that this will use your expensive rate electricity if the car is below 100% at 4:30. But what I tend to do is just manually tell the car to precondition 5 minutes in advance of leaving (10 minutes in winter). That’s plenty of time to heat or cool the cabin. I have set it up so that I can do that with a Siri voice command (an upcoming video will show that), but you can also just do it with the InControl app.

It’s been a while now since the video and wondered if there’s been much change? I get my new car soon and understand it may be slightly different with the new pivi….? Ive had a charger installed at home in anticipation with a timed charge function but can I just use the timer to do its thing or can the car just do its thing. I dont have a schedule so wondered about preconditioning as well as in the winter it would be nice to know that i could de ice the car at any time in winter with the wall charger set to stop at 04:30?

Hi. Congrats on your purchase! The menus are slightly different and the user interface is a bit different. But the actual process works exactly the same way sadly. If you don’t care about what percentage you charge to (I like to stop it at 80% so I always have full regen braking available) then you can just set the timer on your charger and just plug the car in and leave it.

Hi. Yes, as long as it’s above 25% (can’t remember the exact number off the top of my head but it’s around 25-28%) then the cabin preconditioning will still work, whether or not the car is charging.

Yeah it’s not an implementation that I’m happy with. Would have been so much simpler to just control all of this from the app. Of course it’s given me things to make videos about but I’d rather not have needed to!! The original pre-release stuff from Jag showed an app with timed charging and a maximum percentage charge so they made a conscious decision to remove it.

No, tried everything. Did manage to see the blue status light after setting preferred charging time and a departure tomorrow at 18:00 but the car just starts charging immediately. I'm getting really fed up of my I-Pace. I refuse to buy a home charger that does timed charging and spending another £1k when the car just isn't fit for purpose.

What SOC were you when you plugged in? And what time was it? Also make sure you clicked on 18:00 tomorrow. I know that may sound like a stupid thing today but I did once accidentally click on 18:00 that day. Also, I changed to using 23:00 after a while. There was one occasion where the car started charging straight away and it never happened again when I altered it to 23:00.

Just tried this and it worked for me. Initially failed as I hadn't set up whilst the "engine" was on.... thus I got the "Goodbye" screen with the option to set the timer to ON. Using a granny charger I set the departure time for 2 days! to make sure the charge didn't start too early. This is the first time I've seen the blue LED.

I suspect that what has happened is that you have plugged into a 3 phase 7kw charger. There are some in a shopping mall near me. These chargers have three different supplies, each providing about 2.4kw. A car with a three phase charger will combine these to get 7.2kw. The I-Pace has a single phase charger so can only use one of the three phases , so only gets 2.4 kw. Unfortunately the chargers are never marked to show whether they are 3 phase or single phase. I’m just guessing but it sounds like this is what you experienced. The new I-Pace has an optional 3 phase charger by the way (11kw), but model year 19 and 20 never had that option.

@@AbuDhabiDudeThanks for the reply Its weird iI had a wiring harness issues which the car had to be roadside recovered which they replaced after a three week wait and ever since i got the car back it only charges at 2 Kw per hour on the 7Kw Chargers and i have tried 2 different chargers Even on the rapid chargers it’s taking longer.

Ah ok. That sounds like something different then. Are these chargers you used before and got 7kw from them? If so, then that’s more of a problem. As for rapid chargers, don’t forget that you need to plug in at a low state of charge to get the full charging speed. If you plug in at 50% or higher, it will charge at a significantly slower speed. That might not be your issue but just be aware that low temperatures and/or high states of charge will slow your charging speeds.

Sorry but that’s not an issue I’ve heard of at all until you. Definitely something not right with your onboard charger I’d say. Unfortunately, sounds like a dealer visit. Unless there’s maybe a problem with your charging cable? That’s the only other thing I can think of. Might be worth trying to borrow another cable from someone to check that. Only other thing I can think of.

Hi. Thanks for watching. It seems that is accurate. I've never been awake at 3am to check, but from what I can see, that does look like how it acts. It does begin a very slow ramp up so that initially the batteries are heated very slowly and gently, so it takes a long time. There's no way of knowing for sure, as the car itself gives no real indication of battery heating, so you can only try to extrapolate from charging data. Unless Jaguar releases that information (which seems unlikely), we're all really guessing as to exactly what is happening with preconditioning. However, 4 hours and only once the battery is fully charged seems fairly credible based on what I've seen.

I only really bother with preconditioning for long trips. The range is way more than enough for my daily commuting so it's only really long trips where I really care about it enough. That's also because I don't like charging to 100% all the time as well, so I cut the power before it gets to that. But do bear in mind that when you charge to 100% you're not actually charging to 100%, only about 92% as Jaguar block off around 8kWh (depending on what number you use) at the top to protect them from overcharging.

Good video. Preferred charging time is pain for me. Jaguar should have simple option on the app to charge within charging schedule regardless of departure time. This is embarrassing.

I agree completely. It’s like they’re trying to be too clever. All I (and I suspect most people) want is to be able to tell the car to charge between X and Y times to maximum state of charge of Z%. Should be simple.

Maybe it is due to I-pace software developers not driving the I-pace. There are other software bugs as well. If I was in charge of I-pace development I would give each software developer one I-pace to drive for several months. They can’t optimize things like this if they don’t drive the car daily.
