I'm Chinese and my Yeh-Yeh (grandpa) would always make eggs in the morning and Nai-Nai (grandma) would always give me sparkling apple juice, brownies, and tea cake. She would also make chinese spinach and lobster for dinner at least once when we visited.

My mom used to make us ham, guava, and cream cheese sandwiches when we were sick. When I got to college and was eating fried eggs with a banana (broke college student maduros) everybody looked at me like I was insane. Nothing like pan cubano with your cafe con leche though, especially if someone took the time to boil the milk instead of microwaving it.

I related to pretty much EVERY thing you mentioned. Even my 18 year son likes "arroz con huevo frito". I haven't had "arroz con salchicha" in ages. I still love "harina con un huevo". To this day, I still love dipping Cuban bread into my black beans. That's heaven right there. Some of the Cuban comfort foods is the little sandwiches at birthday parties known as "bocaditos". My grandma's "carne con papa", "fricase de pollo", "ropa vieja', and more. Just like you, I drank from a bottle until maybe 6 and because of my grandma, my son too even though my wife (who's just a plain 'ol white girl) at the time hated it. lol "He's Cuban damn it, and that's how we roll!", I would tell her. And yes, we both had "cafe con leche" in a bottle as a baby. Like I said, we're Cuban and that's how we roll. Oh...what about Coke and Leche Condensada? Or Malta con Leche Condensada? Yum!! Damn...maybe that's why I'm fat? :( I can go on and on, but I"ll stop. lol

Here in Brazil we have something very similar to Pisicorre called Romeu e Julieta (literally Romeo and Juliet). It's goiabada (guava paste just like you said, holy crap this thing is a gift) with cream cheese or Minas cheese, which is white and the taste is a lot more subtle than cheddar. I'm not a fan of mixing sweet and savory things, but most people love it.

I am a Cuban "WUELA" and the things your Awuela gave you is part of what it means to be Cuban. My favorite comfort food is yellow rice with Vienna sausage and a fried egg on top and if you have platanos maduros put some of those in the plate. As far as you drinking milk in a bottle till you were 14, that too is so Cuban. To Cuban grandmothers milk is the elixir of life. I still give my grand kids milk in a bottle. THey like it warm and with strawberry syrup. My husband being an American does not quite understand what Cuban grandmothers will do not only to take care of their grandkids and how much we will spoil them. Keep up with the videos they are funny.

I'm Puerto Rican born and raised in the USA but the similarities between my experiences and yours are so on point I think Cubans and PR's are cut from the same cloth. My mami made me all those same foods. Because I was a picky eater she also used to stir up an egg yolk with a teaspoon of sugar and fresh squeezed orange juice for me every morning (to get my alimentos!). It tasted like an Orange Julius. She slso would make me meatballs with white rice.

Jenny, next time you're in a grocery store and buy some Cuban bread grab one of those plastic bags you put your wet umbrella in on the way out of the store. Put the Cuban bread (with it's paper bag so you can reuse the plastic one) in there and bam! It stays soft for days as long as you remember to keep it closed.

My Mexican comfort food growing up was made by my abuela Gracie and my bisabuela. It was always sopa de fideo with the tomate broth and chicken bullion and I always ate it with una quesadilla or una mante-tilla (our house name for a tortilla heated on the comal slathered in butter and rolled up), the two previous tortilla related foods I mentioned, red Spanish rice (to make us "grow up big and strong"), pancakes completely slathered in butter and syrup (always Log Cabin), and either Nesquik or hot chocolate of some kind. And never forget to say your prayers. Ever.

I'm not Latino but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It gave me a glimpse into another culture and reminded me of aspects from my own culture that are similar. I watched another video of yours, the one where the brother brings his girlfriend over and disappoints abuela. It was hilarious. I mean, I obviously didn't understand exactly how funny it was because I have not been in that specific cultural situation, but it was still relatable, and by the end of the video I found myself wishing that I knew more about Latino culture and language. What you said about cultural representation is so true and important. And it makes different videos on KZbin all the more enjoyable when you get to experience different cultures at the same time. Keep up the great work!

Arroz con tuna. Literally the same as arroz con salchicha.. but with a couple of cans of tuna mixed in. Pretty delicious, and pretty often LOL I love this!

Also, there are three things I ate throughout my entire childhood that are still comfort food for me today. Ham and cheese sandwiches (preferrably in white bread with butter), mashed potatoes + vienna sausages + tomato sauce, and my grandma's wonderful orange cake.

I don't really have comfort foods (since my mom was OBSESSED with making hamburger helper meals, and thought they were healthy somehow?????) so I never really had a chance to HAVE comfort foods growing up unless I was over at a friends house....which was rare cuz I never got invited to anything. (#nofriends) but my aunt made really good Egg-in-a-holes! It's basically just toast with a fried egg in the center :D

My father would get up while we were still asleep & go to the tortilleria & panadería on a Sunday morning. Then we'd wake up to the smell of menudo and enjoy it with fresh tortillas & have pan dulce & orange juice. Pops would make us special breakfasts on Sunday mornings before going to church. This was one of them. :)

I'm Puerto Rican, and it was usually arroz con maiz, or arroz con corn beef. If there was not enough to feed us it was galletas de casco con cafe and for some reason we would put a cube of cheese inside the coffee preferably queso de papa.

I'm Puerto Rican and we did something similar to the pisa y corre, we call it pasa palo. My fave things my abuela made was arroz con salchicha, sopa de salchicon and her budin. And YES harina de maiz. SOOOOO good.
