I'm sorry to hear about your bike. I'm a bike mechanic and I'm often asked what's the best way to lock up a bike. Many people just throw there bikes in their garage and assume it's safe. I usually tell people that any abus made bike lock with a hex chain is good. But never make your own chain and lock set up without a good lock from abus or another respectable company.

I know this is an old video, but I just watched it for the first time. Thank you for posting this. I found it very informative, but there is one thing I wanted to point out. You stated (15:17) that the cores used in the 1st and 2nd generation Abus 83/45 Padlocks were interchangeable with each other. That isn't true. Abus enlarged the cores slightly (along with the cavity within the body) to accommodate retrofitting branded residential KiK cylinders (with appropriate adapters), so the newer cylinders like the C6A, will be slightly too large to fit inside an older style lock body. That also means that the older style 83/45 cannot be retrofitted with most KiK residential lock cylinders.

No, this is a different company. Both make good products, but Abloy are known to be more expensive and higher quality.
