ABXYlute Gaming Handheld Review: The Best Budget Cloud Gaming Console?

Really good review, Restalgia. I purchased one of these after selling my G-Cloud and missing it... I have a PS Portal, but am considering selling that one, too, since this device basically does the same thing. Appreciate the reviews of emulation, since that's a big part of how I game, and there's really nothing else on the market in this price range with such a large screen. It's too bad Abxylute didn't pony up for just a bit better CPU and/or RAM. Anyway, glad you're back!

A Portal and a PC handheld is the best approach imo. I love the first party integrated software experience of the Portal as well as its controller. You're not getting that from the Abxylute. Also, my Ally X can be used while at my local park, on a plane, in a train and remote to a more powerful device. The Abxylute is cool if you can't justify a $700+ device. Though, the original Ally can be found for a very accessible price point these days, especially in the second hand market.

Something tells me if you change to a standalone N64 app or change the GPU settings in retroarch you could get better performance, try it on the RICE setting. It's GREAT for a streaming device, don't need much power and that's all it really needs. Great review. ^_^

@@KyleRuggles I was playing around with both the mupen64 stand alone and different cores in RA but it wasn't great performance across the board unfortunately

not really interested in cloud gaming but i do want to stream from my pc to other areas in the house over my local network. i already have a different handheld for emulation so i'm not concerned with that. i've just been having a hard time choosing between the G Cloud and the abxylute. the abxylute is typically cheaper by around $100 and has the magnetic hall sticks, but the G Cloud is made by a known company and i'd assume they'd give the device more attention and updates

If these streaming handhelds featured trigger haptics (because they're for steaming from consoles that feature that), that MIGHT help justify the price, but even then, it's a tough sell because devices like the RG556 and RP4pro exist, which can do the same as this for the same or less money, while also handling higher-end emulation and native Android gaming, plus key mapping, IIRC...

@@GRIMEYtheFATMAN that's a fair point. The biggest difference I guess is the screen size but like you said, the Rg556 is decent at 5.5" too and it can handle more on the emulation side.

No I don't think so. Unless that person has an extensive Steam library, this is probably not the way to go. This product is a great addition to someone who does lots of new generation console and PC gaming by streaming their games to the handheld.

@@andrewparry1706 ps5 needs to be in rest mode like the portal. But to be transparent I am using a third party app for ps5 streaming. It's much better. It's called PX Play

Great video / Lots of info .. However... Both of those Handhelds do need some Spec Buff... At least the Snapdragon 865... 8gb ram / 128gb internal storage or 256gb +... A cooling fan system... To be more relevant... For now a day... 🤔😎🧐

The PS Portal is not even a handheld console. Just an external (wireless) screen with controller 😅
