@@DaBurntToaster you know I haven't done it yet, solely because I haven't found another amp near its price range that really competes with it. I was hoping for something that sounded a bit more powerful and euphoric sounding (tubes etc) but everyhting I've tried so far has some big cons that come with it so I haven't pulled the trigger.

Excellent series idea, and perfectly timed for me, as I started looking at the GS-X Mini just in the past week. I'm interested in what you have to say about the JDS Labs Element II/EL stack II for this series. I know that DMS has liked it a lot as his daily driver and with the Diana (V2?), and Eric I think brought it up once in a video as driving the 1266 decently.

I like that you guys actually showed the PCB. My initial impression is that this is well designed. Unlike many headphone amps this one appears to be built from discrete semiconductors. My guess is MOSFETs, but it would be nice to know their part numbers, and a brief description of the overall circuit topology. If I'm going to drop this kind of money, I want to know that the designer knew what he was doing. Amazingly, a picture of the RNHP was all it took for me to realize that it was designed around an inferior chipset.

Great video and input. I plan to purchase the Abyss1266 phones before the end of this month. So, with a total budget of $8,000 (US), and the idea in mind that I love classic rock, Prog rock, symphonic music and acoustic guitar, and plan to mix and master 3D/VR/360 3rd Order Ambisonic audio with the 1266, what DAC plus AMP combination would you recommend with the 1266?

I'm set on getting this amp, but what DAC should I get? I use HD800S and Verite Closed mostly. I currently have a Schitt Modi Multibit but looking to go to a balanced DAC. Been looking at the ARES II, Bifrost 2, RME ADI-2, Topping D90. Any recommendations?

I used this amp paired with the RME ADI-2 PRO before picking up a used DAC3 HGC. Main phones are 660S and 800S. The RME is clean and non-fatiguing with a very nice sense of space. For such a small unit, I'm surprised RME managed to fit such a nice amp-section in there too. The D90 would be an interesting choice as well but you're getting so much more for the money with the RME

I guess I am in the minority that it is a little bright. I don't get the buttery sound. Maybe my headphones are on the bright side. Edit, my mistake, I have not heard the mini version just the one with the dual chassis.

Mini is the same and the amp makes it REALLY apparent to your source. Be very careful with what DAC you pair it with. I have a Bifrost 2 that works SO well with this amp, I'm just waiting to pair it with a Holo Spring 2 DAC
