This is strict PARAMETRIC ARCHITECTURE. A grasshopper definition can simply give the result programming a basic algorithm. Outstanding channel.

I assume you are talking about the software/coding "grasshopper". If so, you are correct. This could in theory be created by someone who is very good at programming. That would be awesome! Thank you for your comment.

Thanks this was really clear. You saved me some time searching through the code while studying for my license exam. I know that's it's best to understand the code fully but this is a great way to quickly understand these requirements.

Can you clarify on corridor width? Only the CENTER corridor where you drew an arrow to is the 62” width because all three suites access it? Or is it the entire wrap around corridor would be 62”?
@archicorner
@archicorner 4 жыл бұрын
Good question: Once a corridor width is stablished, it is usually carried out through the entire corridor.
@ParisBrockington
@ParisBrockington 4 жыл бұрын
archicorner hmmm... this is confusing bc technically the centre corridor is a “common path of travel” and then the occupants are met with 2 choices of “exit access” which would technically divide the occupants in 2. The corridor also changes direction. So can you not have a narrower corridor where it divides into 2 separate “exit accesses”?
@archicorner
@archicorner 4 жыл бұрын
@@ParisBrockington I understand the frustration. What you are noting may be doable. If you can show how this can be accomplished (showing how the occupants can be directed to the different egress points), you could in effect make what you are noting work. It is all in the presentation of your egress plans and making sure that the idea is clearly explained to the AHJ's satisfaction. In the end, the architect signing the plans will be responsible for the design, whichever it may be.

I love your videos. I have one suggestion. Could you create one video on a step by step process to work out a Life Safety Plan ? There you need not get into details of individual topics for eg. Travel Distance calculations. Those videos you already have made. You could just direct the viewer to the link of the related video like you do otherwise. The purpose of this video would be to give the viewer an idea of the process of creating a Life Safety Plan for permit. Essentially it would be a binder for many of the videos you have already made.

Section 1009.3 is also important for stairway width. 1009.3 states that stairways must be 48" minimum wide handrail to handrail if the building is not sprinklered. 44" is the absolute minimum if the building is sprinklered.
@archicorner

Dear sir how do I calculate door clearance for a sprinklered space with occupant load greater than 50 with one of two exit doors opening into a corridor. With a door width of 36” and a corridor width of 59” inches and clearance on latch side the required minimum of 42” inches which if I am understanding ADA requirements would allow for a corridor width of 54”. I believe that the footprint of the door (36”) swing plus 1/2 the required width which in this case is 54” (27”) I will need a minimum corridor width of 63” inches. Is this correct or did I get my diagonal measurements of the door at 45 degrees wrong? The corridor width cannot be changed as it already exists and is as I mentioned 59”. I am looking to install a new door into a preexisting space that was combined with another space making a larger space and I have the option of moving one of the doors and was hoping to change the direction of door swing to allow for a higher occupancy. This space will be used for a martial arts school/studio. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. 🙏

I don't often solve specific problems through KZbin. I would suggest you hire an architect in your area. They would have better knowledge of what laws apply to your state and county better.

Is stairway width calculated from wall to wall or from inside face of stringers (i.e. tread width) for a flight of egress stairs?

Great video! You discussed exit width of the stair based on occupancy of the same floor the exit stair is located. I thought the exit width also had to be calculated based on the occupant of the above floors. Is that not correct?

what is the width required for two doubles doors? twice more than 66" inches? like 120" if we have 1000 OCc.
@archicorner
@archicorner 2 жыл бұрын
doors in general can never be more than 48" wide. So if you need 120" of door width, multiple doors may be needed. If you look at stadiums and similar places, you will see that they have MANY doors next to each other. This is one reason why they do this.

Could you talk more on why you can't split the corridor width in half? if a room has 2 exits it can be split in half so why couldn't it be the same.
@archicorner
@archicorner 3 жыл бұрын
That is actually a very good question! This is not really called out in the building code (if you can find otherwise, please share). Nevertheless, your proposal seems reasonable. If you are able to clearly show that in your egress path of travel, it just might work! But then again, its all a matter of the building department accepting it and your good communication with them.
