Thanks! What if we had more than one occupancy type, do just add them up? And see if they add up to 10%? And what if we had two main occupancies (separated) or more, is it still possible to have an accessory occupancy within that floor?

There is one issue I have with your explanation of the scenario @ 11:00; assuming that the direction of egress can be either way, you'd need to provide double egress frames, at least at the capacities you've stated, as well as accounting for loading width in each direction, do you agree?

Hey, I would like to thank you for basically tutoring me. I will be taking the IBC test to take to become a general contractor and these videos are helping me to understand work the code mean and why they were written as well as justified. I hope you did all 35 chapters because between me reading the 2015 codes books and the videos you have so I can understand what they want is a blessing for me. I know I will get my GC license now

What about an assembly occupancies with automatic sprinklers? Assembly wasn't mentioned in that exception with a list of occupancy types, so can assembly occupancies only have a dead end corridor maximum length of 20' even if it has automatic sprinklers?

This system isn't just for earthquakes. It helps manage the weight and pressure from the roof or floor above, letting them move without putting extra stress on the wall studs. The pressure can come from things like gravity, wind, water, snow, earthquakes, or changes in temperature.

Oh man I wish I had seen this video 6 years ago when I started working on multifamily projects. I’m an architect from Mexico and have been working in the US for an architecture firm in the multifamily studio. Your videos are helping me lot right now as I’m going through all of them! Thank you so much!

I always enjoy your content. I’m on “the dark side”, in other words, I am a Senior Building Plans Examiner in a Northern California jurisdiction. My plan check engineer (PCE) does almost all our accessibility, life safety and structural review’s, whereas I do all MEP, Energy, CalGreen, PV, etc, nevertheless I do get involved often with 11B and 11A of the CBC. This particular subject doesn’t come up with us. In fact I’ve never seen a correction written for accessible shelving, however I see break rooms being addressed as kitchens or kitchenettes. My PCE and I are going to address this starting next week, she just doesn’t know it yet!,😂. Just wanted you to know how valuable your channel is to me, and has been for a long time. I have gone over different issues with architects that didn’t really understand what they were doing in certain circumstances, and I was not able to get through to them, so I actually told them of your channel. I gave them the link to the problem that you had addressed in a video, they watched it, then understood it, and we came back together to resolve the issue and now they are hooked on your channel. I hold architects in very high regard, but through the years found out that there are very good architects and those who aren’t so good, but you are excellent in my mind and would like to see your plans come across my desk someday. Keep up the excellent work Josue,, DaleH

Your comment really brightened up my day. I have a deep respect for plan reviewers. We depend on each other to get things done right. I know some architects that have a big ego and try to push their designs or opinions. Or argue their way just because they have done things differently for so long. I try to stir away from that and rather try to reason with people. I as well try never to become stagnant or "comfortable" with where I am at. I am very proud of my work and my achievements, but it is due to many who have contributed to my understanding. I am just hoping that I can pass this understanding along like my past tutors passed it on to me. Again, thank you for your comment, and hope to continue creating content that even knowledgeable people, like yourself, can find it useful. Thank you again; Josué Díaz

Didn’t know that was a thing, but it doesn’t make sense to have LESS storage and wall cabinets so there is “MORE” (fake more) accessible counters…… 🧐

Thank you so much for the visualization for calculating the 50% for accessible shelving! Working in California for the building department I understand your frustration especially when shelving hasn't been called out in the past. The code uses the term kitchenette in addition to kitchen and I believe that is why the 50% for shelving comes into play. Additionally, the exception in 11B 804.2 does call out kitchens without a stovetop or range making the area not required to comply with required clearances for floor space, but nothing in 804.5. In my opinion stovetops and ranges being called out in 804.2 and not in 804.5 means that the code sees microwaves as a method of cooking thereby defining those areas with microwaves as kitchens/kitchenettes. I do think it would be a good idea to reach out to DSA for clarification for areas with microwaves. Thank you again for your videos!
@archicorner20 күн бұрын
That is a good point. Although, I don't know if microwaves "cook" as much as they "heat up" pre-made or pre-cooked meals. But a good point none the less. Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your videos. I have two questions. 1. Are cart lifts also considered hoistways, and do they need to comply with the same requirements as elevator hoistways? 2. Can the elevator lobby be shared with a waiting room. In other words, can a waiting space be in the elevator lobby, or do they have to be separate - one elevator lobby and one waiting room.

If the occupancy group of this project is a business, and the factor is 100 GROSS? Why you divided each area with different factor?
@archicornerАй бұрын
"Occupancy Groups" and "Occupant Loads" are completely separate items. Occupancy Groups are defined in Chapter 3 and are used in Chapter 5 to determine (amongst other things) allowable areas, heights, number of stories, etc. Occupant Loads are determined by Chapter 10 and the primary objective is to determine egress requirements, such as number of exits, exit distances, etc. Check out Archicorner Episode 030. Let me know if this clarifies your question. THANKS!

I think the diagrams and 3d is important, but if you want to do it faster, you could simply do a pencil drawing, and record yourself and your desk and just scribble out diagrams on paper, it doesn't have to be 3d. what program were you using for the 3d, is that sketchup?
@archicornerАй бұрын
Correct. It is sketchup. While pencil drawing is great, I also wish for this channel to have a nice professional feel to it. But you are 100%right
