KY Home Garage KY Home Garage Appreciate if you could make a video on the Non-clutch based compressors due to their VARIABLE compression (i.e compressor power can be increased or decreased depending on engine load and demands). I had one not working in my BMW E65 730Li and im happy that i replaced it with a reliable ...the good old clutch-based compressor and enjoy my trips.

Javier Alonso you are welcome my friend I am so glad you got it fixed. Good job bro

You soldered the wire to what though?

I meant thermal fuse to what though and this got your system back working?

Very informative and helpful. A few more closeups help novices like me. I am wondering if you have a bad A/C coil can it blow fuse 48 thus disabling the climate control module? What electric test can be done to confirm a bad climate control module vs. this A/C? Does the clutch go bad too? I have a 01'X5,3.0 w/231,K miles.

Jeffrey Parker shorted AC compressor clutch can damage module driver for sure. We can monitor voltage on control wire and if we know that system has good pressure but module doesn't turn on AC next step would be to check for trouble codes stored in climate control module. If we don't have any DTC next step is to check power and ground . If all that check OK our suspect is bad module. Tough call.

During a long distance drive with the A/C engaged at full temp (60F) the A/c was ice cold, however when the module was tuned to 72F, a burning smell was noticed, a rather loud noise and constant cold air fluctuation. But when the module was set back to 60 , it blew ice cold and the noise was intermittent. Now I blow fuse 48 at the start of the car. The module is set for 72F. The A/C isn't on. The module fan switch only works in the down mode, in order to raise the fan motor you have to use "MAX" button . I guess it's the module .

First, Thanks for this Video. How do I get the cabel to the AC off (think its not a Plug at my e53, 3.0i) and should the compressor/clutch Engage and cool if I connect it to power?
@kyhomegarage34307 жыл бұрын
Mark Rösch you should have connector at your AC clutch. If you give power to your clutch while car is running you can damage compressor if is low on freon. Do it with car off clutch should move when you give power.

Thanks for this video. I have a 2004 330i. After letting the car sit for a few minutes when I first turn the car on the clutch in the ac compressor engages and the vents blow cold air but within a few seconds the clutch disengages and the vents stop blowing cold air. I did use a r-134 kit and when the compressor is running the gauge shows 45psi on the low side. I checked all my fuses with all being good, I disconnected the battery and reset the computer. The outside ambient air temperature sensor is missing and on the information panel it always reads 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Is that my culprit? Or is there a sensor somewhere else kicking off the compressor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi thanks for the video very helpfull , i have a 2013 audi A4 has a compressor with variable valve, and not engage , has full freon , i cheked both cables at the compressor valve and not signal either grond signal, neither fans does not come on. y tested the ac pressure sensor has ground, positive and the output signal, can i use a resistor with a potentiometer to simulate a good sensor? by the way the variable valve is working if i apply positive directly to the valve. hoping you could assist me whit this issue, thanks you

It would be a great video if at the beginning of the video he would show where these components are and where exactly is he touching the probe to where.

Thanks for the video. there are some couple of question, I hope you can help me. This is my case, AC not cooling, checked control wire going to compressor and see 12v when AC button is pushed on AC control module and engine on, AC compressor is engaging also (I think this confirm AC compressor is grounded same as AC compressor coil). I see Aux Fan is not working at all , checked the 3 cables going to Aux fan, ground-positive is 12v, ground-control wire is 0v, control wired-positive is 12 volts (AC on), I dont have a tool to confirm the 160Hz square signal at the control wire but 12v is seen when AC is on. Can we say the Aux fan not working is causing the AC not to cool? Thanks
@kyhomegarage34306 жыл бұрын
Your AC should work even if you electric cooling fan doesn't work. If you compressor is working install gauges and check low and high side. KOEO pressure should be 70-90 PSI on low and high side. KOER Pressure should drop on low side if doesn't you have bad compressor.

So I added more coolant to mine and clutch engages but the condenser fan isn't spinning and no cold air. I noticed if I unplug ac pressure switch the fan spins up so I was thinking maybe the switch is not working. I wonder is there a way to test that switch?

Javier Alonso do the bypass test with a test light the same way I did.if your test like lights your AC system is OK but your clutch is not working

UPDATE: I installed the clutch coil with the compressor still in the X5 as Ramon did. There were some tricky parts (namely removing/replacing the snap rings), but its done and the AC works again! Its been about a week..so far, so good. I'll try to report back at the end of summer with another update. Hope this helps someone... the eBay clutch coils seem to be a valid repair... I was worried about quality, but feeling better about it now.

So what happened if the control wire is faulty?
@kyhomegarage34307 жыл бұрын
SKINHEAD DOG Hi if control wire is open HVAC module will not be able to activate compression clutch. You will have to trace control wire to find were is wire damage.
