I have a built out Promaster and I constantly find better ways to get from outside in when it comes to electrics and such. I did not see this access hole and I didn't see the 6' on Amazon until I watched your vid. Thanks for posting.... I re ordered the 6' installed in the same area.... It couldn't have gone more perfectly. Thanks again! Oh and one great thing about this area for install is..... If you screw the plastic up or damage this area..... It's a part that can be replaced... Just order a new piece from the factory.

That's amazing!! I have a 2015 Promaster 136" WB and was wondering how to get a shore power setup installed. I really like that you can plug the power strip into the wire that comes attached to the shore power port. Thanks so much for sharing!! I can't wait to be able to power my van with shore power as I do my no-build build! Still want to have heat and light to it while it's in my driveway, without installing an entire electrical system or buying a solar setup just yet!

Nice job!!! I saw this technique before but they went through the air plug, the first one you mentioned. They had to slit it, they took off 3 panels, they had to cut the 3 prong off to feed the wire through the slit. What a hassle. I love the 2nd entry you found. I will definitely be doing it your way when i get my van, and i was going to get the 6' version. Only thing i would suggest is instead of a coat hanger, i would just feed either string, rope or wire - down, and then loop the end of the plug in to the wire/string, and then just pull the string up. Benefit for me is my van will be empty when i do this. TY, great job explaining it and good camera shots, especially the first one through the hole where you couldn't see and you corrected it so it was visible.

I love where you put it! No holes in the metal siding, and installed in a part that can be replaced if needed! Great Job! A little bit of silicone sealant between wall and port will offer additional "hold" and act as a glue as well. Can't hurt, might help!

Thanks, I contemplated some silicone but it comes with a rubber gasket that acts as a sealant.

And if you did want to add sealant I bet you can :) I just discovered your channel today so plan to sit down with my hubby with some snacks and binge! You are an inspiration! WOW, what a wonderful idea i am just looking for ! i dont like to drill on the metal body for installation. i take the power cord to go throung the door seams whenever i need , but now i learned something much better! thank you som much!

I found it locally at a farm store called Farm and Fleet. I think they are available in fall/winter months. It' worked well for us. Just took the edge off the cold. You'll need to be plugged into shore power to use it.

This is like the one I bought but mine has a 16 inch cord. I will be installing mine on the side so 16 inch cord is plenty long enough.

Perfect. They are really good quality and the lid makes a great seal to protect the prongs. I'm sure you thought of this but putting a small wood frame inside your van to receive the screws will make it more stable pushing in and pulling your shore plug. The thin metal walls of the van may give a little under pressure. Just a thought.

You probably should be running a GFI receptacle in the van directly wired into the outside receptacle, then you’ll have protected power.

Oh, that's too bad. My door can be opened completely when I'm plugged in with no interference. I use a standard outside extension cord .

I just bought the one with 2 and it's only 18" ugh. What if you had placed that plug below the reflector? Would it have reached and would the circle fit in that space?

If you can drill a hole there the cord may fit better in the upper hole- I showed both entry holes with gasket entry in my video. You can get on the ground and look up into the cavity and see it and judge. The plastic was very easy to cut through. Good luck. It's really not a big deal the cord was a little too short. I wrapped the plug in duct tape and it sits inside a cavity that is not exposed to the outside.

Hi there. So far I've used it to power the AC in my driveway. It was 86F in full sun and I ran it for about an hour. There was no issues with any of the plugs or cords overheating. In fact there was no warmth at any point along the connection. I have a 5,000 BTU AC so it's pretty small. I'm heading out for a 6 day outing using my AC. I'll do a review on the AC when I get back.

@@weavgiff It's a GE Brand 5,100 BTU.$300 from Lowe's. I bought it because it's profile is 12"x11"x 30" high and it fit behind my driver's seat. I just got back from a 6 day trip and used the AC the 5 nights we were plugged in. It was a game changer for summer sleeping. It took about an hour to cool 'me' down and the promaster. The night time temps were in the mid 70's and it cooled down the van to mid 60's (you can set temp) especially the humidity was so low there wasn't condensation on the front windows in the morning- which always happens. It was not especially loud, provided good white noise even though we left an upper vent cracked. I'd like to add that the air conditioner and my dometic fridge ran flawlessly on the incoming 15 amp Norco inlet. No cords or plugs got warm or hot- I checked after it had been running a while and just before unplugging..
