Will tell my story to help others. I’m not young, about retirement age here in Australia, and was thrown off a dirt bike in the Blue Mountains, landing on my left shoulder. I’m 120kg, and the road was hard packed clay. This was September 2020. So I had a type 3, complete separation of the AC. I paid for surgery 6 months later - had Dacron threads put in to replace the ligaments and recovered completely without medication nor physiotherapy. The only thing I would change, is to have the surgery earlier, but I had to decide first to forget about Medicare, and ante up $15k to get the surgery done privately and promptly. If I had waited for Medicare, it was at least a 12 month wait. After only 6 months, my clavicle was already tearing up through my shoulder on its way to my ear. The surgery was an immediate and welcome normalisation of my anatomy.

@denislyons Жыл бұрын
@@rumit9946 something to remember, if you put the clavicle back to its normal position using wires, you need to do it within 6-7 weeks after the injury and the earlier the better. The reason is after this amount of time, the ligaments will die, and if you can get it done right after the accident, the ligaments will actually grow back into place and after 6 months, you can have the wires removed and have a perfect shoulder again.
@denislyons2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this. I suffered type 5 AC joint separation, and sadly from the first operation, I was given a strong infection. 8 operations later and 2 years, I am hoping the new reconstruction holds and I can have my shoulder back after 8 more months of rehab. Stay healthy.

@denislyons2 жыл бұрын
@@VanillaEarth744 by all accounts, it will heal perfectly by itself. try to avoid extreme movements and lifting with the shoulder, but as long as the ligaments are still attached, they will grow back. @@vincenicoara7121 I was actually in the middle of trying to compile that footage to make a mini document. The surgery went well, I opted to get CC Ligament transplant and it held down the collarbone again and they took out some damaged cartilage and a little bit of the bone. I am rebuilding strength and muscle gradually and the collar bone lined up perfect with the shoulder; all in all the surgery went well. I thought the other day what it would be like if I kept with psychical therapy and not have the surgery but I had to much clicking and bone on bone rubbing etc it would have worn each other down to stubs which will be harder operate on 10 years down the line. I took really great care of myself using all natural remedies for healing and kept my diet with minimal sugar and high fruit and greens diet with whey protein. It helps to maintain muscle and heal faster or they assume anyway. Bromelain also helps with healing at a quicker rate. I have been skateboarding lightly since but nothing heavy impact because I really want to heal properly.

Yeah man I have alot of bone rubbing and clicking right now too, totally agree - I dont think therapy will get rid of that. I'm also 26 and I was very active with weightlifting and basketball prior to this injury so I dont want to compromise my athletic life. And honestly... the bump bothers me alot aesthetically as well haha. How long did you get your surgery after your accident? I notice no difference in my activities today. I do have a bump on my shoulder though. From what I have read about the surgery is that the recovery period is 3-6 months. The pain during the first week is pretty high. Surgery doesn’t even fix the ac joint. They just pull the collar bone down to appear normal. I don’t have time from work to even think of doing this. While playing basketball, a kid ran full speed into my extended arm. The injury sounded like multiple carrots being snapped around the same time, and felt like lightning struck my shoulder. The injury was 12 days ago, and I am just now able to do certain things. I used resistant bands yesterday, which hurt like heck, but made me feel better the next morning. I even bench pressed 30-lb dumbbells, yesterday morning, at a decline, flat bench, and incline for 5 sets each of 25 repetitions. Before, I was able to bench 100-lb dumbbells for reps, now it's scary to even think about trying it. The resistant bands are great though. Make sure to fight through the pain. Do isometric holds for 30 second repetitions. Cheers!

I have a 5 year + injury to the AC joint, it's on my to-do list to have an orthopedist address it, once some more dire medical issues have been fully addressed (most importantly, hyperthyroidism, resulting in bone loss). I'll want to get with the orthopedist to see if PT might be more effective for the pain and loss of ROM. Still, that's why we have specialists, the specialized knowledge and experience. Still, on the triage list, it's way down on the list. There's a lumbar issue that is of greater concern, as there may be neurological deficit present. Yeah, medically, I'm a train wreck.

I got myself a type 2 or 3, around 4 years ago(~2018) while trying to bend a steel bar,(so from pulling, not falling or so) i kept my arm close to the body and not use it for 1-2 weeks ,at the doctor, he just push on my deltoid muscles in 3-4 spots, ask me if hurts, i told him no, and that i was concern about the "bump", he pressd on it and no pain, so he just gaved me some pain pills and a creme/gel, to me it looked like he didnt pay so much attention, it took a few months(3-4) untill i got ok with it, after like 2 years it hit me again, probably an overuse of the shoulder, again ive took a few weeks brake, then again in december 2021 , again ive been to the doc. , painkillers/creme,he said to use the pain as indicator of what is to much untill it recover. ( october 2021-april 2022 , i took a brake from my workout, and just restared in may , ((no pushups, sems those are bad for my shoulder now)) So in may 2022 it happend again, guess because ive hit a boxing bag, like..10 times. i gonna get an X ray,. Now im 26, during the 2 years after the first injury i kept doing body weight exercises at home,no pain,all normal, pushups, pullups, curls, etc, it was fine, but since the 3rd time i felt considerable pain i stop doing shoulder motion moves, i do have a bump on my right shoulder, since the beggings, the colorbone(other end of the clavicule) it also shifted a little, i can see that it feels different then the good clavicule. -[[[ ...MY ADVICE, if you go tru AC joint issues, take it serious, the shoulder is the most flexible joint of the body, go straight to a docto..or two, get an X ray, take at last 2 months of rest for your shoulder, look to do recovery with a physic teraphist or so, use ur arm, keep it flexible and active, stay in shape, but always remember that is vulnerable to injury]]] If you have questions, or advices, let my know.

The doctor said the bumb will go away (I don't believe that when reading other people's experiences). He says that the bumb is "mostly" from swelling. I said that I disagree because he barely put pressure on the bone when checking how much luxation was possible. I told him to put more pressure. He then acknowledged that it was indeed worse than he expected. I asked him many other questions, such as: will the joint heal/reconnect again over time. He answered: "Yes". (maybe he meant it in a different way then I would describe it) However everything I read/learned so far tells me the opposite. He also said to do fysio therapy the coming weeks. And move the arm based on pain. Which is what I will be doing. But I am just really afraid how this plays out in the long term. I have read people getting neck and back pain or even issues with legs due to imbalance of the body. And obviously the loss of strength is a concern. And the "weird" feelings when moving the arm. I hope everything will go back to normal :( At least the pain is more or less gone as long as I leave my arme rested on desk or in the sling. I am at a lvl 4 with 1 year and being denounced by insurance. My arm does operate but at 60 percent with notable rise on clavical. Still 1 inch past other side. I understand this is surgery but not sure who to call.

so not that long ago a police officer pulled my arm nehind me and raised it to far up around my head and caused the following type 1 accromion and edema at the distal end of my left clavicle with mild edema along the acromioclavicular joint capsule. diagnoses was grade 1 acromioclavicular joint seperation / injury. what excercises can i do.. and this happened since march 30 2020 and today is October it hurts really bad if i push my shoulder down. Or pulling or pushing or raching towards the back or up.. do i need surgery

had a grade 5 on my right shoulder 15 years ago and was corrected with surgery with amazing results! Sadly, 1.5 weeks ago I Fell while sprinting on astroturf and have a grade 3 in left shoulder. very serious bump still. I'm on th fence about surgery. if the surgeon was around still that did my right shoulder it wouldn't be in question.

Sir i have pain in my AC joint since 1 year nd there is a gap between ac joint which i got to know form my x-ray report. Nd i think i have partial tear. But im not able to heel it, i did medication, physiotherapy, laser treatment, shoulder strengthning exercises and icing but it is not curing. Doctors are saying for surgery. Sir please can you tell me what should i do, i have my all report of treatment. Can it heel without surgery ?

Mohammad Ajmer You can do things such as physical therapy to restrengthen the muscles, but sadly if all you want is to get rid of that dumb bump then surgery is your best bet.

Jokes aside got into a motorcycle accident where a car hit me from the side and I fell on my left shoulder, grade 3 injury 2.5 weeks after the incident now no pain during movement, there is the step deformity though. All the doctors I went to were 70/30 about no surgery and surgery so guess this bump will accompany me as a reminder till death do us part ⚰️ lol

Can anyone who choose NOT to do a surgery with a grade 3 ac sep. please share how do you feel with your daily and sporty activities after several months / years ? I got my grade 3 from falling from bike in the mountains and its been 2 months from now. I have seen like 10 different doctors / sport therapist / orthopedics and they are like 50/50 to do the surgery or not to. The point is that i can say i live an active life , im 33 now and i play a lot of football and snowboarding. Obvious thees sports are not effected by the ac sep. but i also play volleyball every now and then , occasionally wakeboard with friends and i like to swim and lately i get into tennis. One of the doctors said that "if i want to continue with those active sports , its mandatory to do the surgery because the joint doesn't funcion properly and i could get arthrosis latter on" If i dont push it too much , i can go without surgery. My question is can anyone tell me how does it feel after several moths or years have passed ? Thanks a lot and thanks for the video

I'm 7 weeks today after a mtb accident. Fell many times but this time i fell bad and on downhill into a ditch. I manage to ride another 15km's to the finish in pain. I would've done surgery but cannot as my coracoid process also broke. So nothing to attach the LARS ligament on. Now i need to wait 9 months minimum to be sure and then if i feel the need i can do surgery. So at this stage its a waiting game. I can say however for me this is a looooong process. I'm very active cyclist, mtb and road. Even tho i do stationary i'm still very depress. My shoulder feels like it is taking longer than usual. Out of the sling and can move my arm, but only to some degree. Still very weak and i put no weight on it.

I'm two years in from grade three. I'm having surgery next week. It got better for awhile before it got worse. At this point I feel surgery is worth a shot before I accept I'm screwed up for life. The bump still sticks way up and I have pain everyday. Especially when it gets cold out. I got mine from being thrown from a motorcycle and landed on my shoulder. But hey at least I didn't die. Hope you have good luck. I would get the surgery before arthritis kicks in. Why wait till then it will only make it worse. Wish I would have fixed it right away.

Thank you Doc for the god presentation. Am healing from Grade 5 with surgery (button and kirschner-wire insertions 8 weeks ago). K-wires migrated so the doctor had to remove them after 2 weeks. I am healing well but anxious to start retraining lost strength in arm and back, when can I start active rehabilitation? Thanks!
@brandonpickett88417 жыл бұрын
Beyonder1881 I also had surgery for a grade 5. Do you still have a slight bump. I noticed mine still sticks up slightly
@Beyonder18817 жыл бұрын
I still have more than a slight bump, probably a 1-2 cm bump, permanently. I think its because the doctor removed the entire acromioclavicular ligament, which was smashed anyway. So there is no longer that connection to stabilise and keep things in line. In general - now 10 months after my surgery my shoulder is still weaker than the other side, but seems okay except for this permanent bump. I sometimes wonder if the surgery made any difference at all or if it would have healed up well (perhaps with less of a bump) on its own. I will never know.
@brandonpickett88417 жыл бұрын

@NinjaKnight005 жыл бұрын
Sunday Morning my surgery date is March 18th, I also feel like you and worrying but it’s what I’ve wanted since the accident. I’m 24 so I feel like if I get the surgery now and suffer for another 12 months recovering, at least that’s better than chronic arthritis in a few years and have to deal with that as well as the joint still being unstable. How long since you injured yours? It’s still hard to accept now as I played rugby, boxing and heavy weights. I just want to be able to play sport again with it moving around as much as it does.
