Always pull the fuse disconnect on the wall near the compressor as a secondary precaution in addition to turning off the power at the circuit breaker since there's a possibility of it being mislabeled.

So glad to see a video that is only 2 months old. Most are X amount of years old and I never get any comments. I've been having issues with my A/C unit and this is probably what the problem is. The system has been freezing, and leaking from the ceiling in my kitchen. A repair person has been out 3 times I think to fix, but not really, because now the system doesn't run at all. They are supposed to come today. Your video will give me the knowledge I need to make sure they fix this the right way. (Of course they should know already). Thank you.

Just yesterday replaced my old one. I do have a cordless drill but it’s only a few short screws. Used my 10 in 1 screwdriver. Took less than 10 minutes. I had the T handle pull out breaker switch. Yay it was blowing cool air immediately. Could tell the difference right away. Took several hours to cool down to 78 degrees set temperature. Now feeling cool all day long in this 110 degree heat index we’ve been having. 🥵🔥 . Not all HVAC stores sell to the public. Ferguson HVAC they sell to public and i think they’re a national chain. I bought two capacitors one is spare. They don’t last very long like less that ten years. Bought mine one year warranty ones for $27 for both.

Thanks for posting this. What, specifically, is the symptom when this cap goes out? My AC went out 2 days ago when lightning struck a tree near my AC unit, and now my wife is freaking out from the heat.
@HEDIYREVIEWS
@HEDIYREVIEWS Жыл бұрын
My just went out. It could've been struggling for a while but I didn't notice it. When the lawn ppl cut the yard they (unintentionally) blow the grass on the AC unit thus blocking the air from circulating & putting strain on the AC parts. I think that's why my capacitor went out. Your breaker could've tripped (off). Where you able to fix your issue?
@Jeff99

@@HEDIYREVIEWS We got it fixed, eventually. Turns out we had 2-1/2 problems. The first A/C guy from the company we bought it from maybe 6 years ago came out quickly and diagnosed it as an electrical problem. He told us we needed to replace the low voltage line from the air handler in the attic down to the condenser outside. We got an electrician to come out (the same day!!) and he replaced that line. The half-problem was fixed but the A/C still didn't work. Another A/C guy from the same company as the first guy came out and diagnosed it correctly. Turns out we needed one hard-to-find electronic component in the condenser unit, not the cap, and a new motor for the fan. The company managed to get the part overnighted, had the motor already on hand, and late Friday afternoon the second guy got it working! That guy was good, needless to say. (I was sort of disappointed it was not the capacitor, though....) It has been wicked hot here (Boston area) and my wife was not happy, needless to say. Today she's a lot better. And ironically, today the A/C is off because it's so cool outside!

I'm sitting in my hot house in Texas waiting on my AC repair man to come out in 2 days. I bet this is what's wrong with my AC unit. The unit is running but no cool air is coming into my house. I see the part cost around $18.00 bucks. Too bad I don't feel comfortable with electricity. So far I'm out of pocket 165.00 which I paid my home warranty company. They scheduled me with Sears. My Lennox unit is 20 years old and I have never had any issues at all prior to this one. I did order one of those AC cooling fans off of Amazon (59.00) that requires water and ice. Its ok. I have my ceiling fan on high, a tower floor fan, my humidifier and the AC cooling fan running, my room temperature is at 79. Thanks for this video!!

You should find out why it failed. If not you can put the compressor in danger. Is the fan pulling the correct amount of amps, is the compressor? Is all the connections clean and tight? Is it low in refrigerant causing the compressor to run hot? Is the fan dragging and shutting down? Does the contactor have any resistance? Are all the high side wires tight? Is there bugs crawling around? I actually love DIY people. I make more money than I would have if you had called me to begin with.. oh yeah, do you know for sure the disconnect has never been bypassed? Leaving the unit with power still on.
