You are doing wonders for Cruze owners. I have a 2014 and had overheating problems. I've done the tsb for water pump, timing chain cover, thermostat etc. Replaced the water spout. And found your video to give me the idea to change the coolant tank. Now the temp operates normally, no bubbling. Wish these videos came out much earlier lol. And you explain things well, without talking to us like we are dummies. I've turn down my v8 to the block and install new heads, cam, intake full bolt on etc. And I didn't feel offended by your videos and learned something. Thanks

Uh oh! Edit, edit! Today I need to change out the other sensor near the radiator. The fan is turning on again, needle is above the halfway mark. Will keep y'all posted! UPDATE: She's in the shop! We can't figure out why this car keeps overheating! We're thinking the radiator was replaced and is not the original. The GM hose that's supposed to fit doesn't fit over the radiator side (passenger) It's so TIGHT that it simply won't clip on. The thermostat side clicks on really easy. It's not establishing an airtight seal and the hose keeps blowing off under pressure. There are two model hoses for this car.. one is for manual transmission the other for automatic. Plus 2 radiator designs.. 1st and 2nd.

Thanks so much for the video. Changed out the sensor on the engine side first and that was the issue. Save a bunch of $$$$. BTW Dude, that retaining clip is no joke. Although my car had been sitting for at least two days, when I removed the clip the sensor shot out, I dropped the clip and coolant leaked out (no more than a cup though). I quickly put the new sensor in but realized I couldn't find the clip anywhere. Fortunately, the new sensor stayed in place so I could search for the clip. After 15 minutes of searching, under, over and in between, I gave up and called the Chevrolet parts counter and was told I had to order one but it would be here the next morning. After paying in advance for the clip (it was a special order). I walked back outside and continued to just stare around the engine. Wouldn't you know it, just two minutes after placing that parts order, the clip appeared laying right there on the engine. Happy as a clam, I fished it out, secured the new sensor, reconnected the battery and fired her up. Warning message was gone. Fan didn't come on immediately like before and all is well in the world again. Thanks again Michael.

Hey. appreciate the videos! I have a 2014 chevy cruze with a coolant issue. Thermostat wasnt opening properly, corroded. Sensors were corroded. reservoir cap was not holding at 20 psi. Started with relays going out. Three, including the GM 1193 relays (hard to get these days) failed. After all that was still losing coolant. So pressurized system again. Was misting lightly after 30 minutes to an hour out the bleeder valve. pulled it. Rubber gasket seal was cracked. It was threaded fully so replaced it. No more loss presently. That little thing is worth checking for cracks when inspecting.

Hi Michael. I have Malibu 2018 1.5L with overheating issues described as below: Run normally go for a ride in the city, all is ok. Then if I drive longer distance with rev ups and stopping for a traffic jam the car starts to raise in temperature, the needle goes above the middle point and the DIC shows almost 125 C, I got off the car noticed the fan ran very fast, the upper hose is very hot and stiff to squeeze and sometimes I notice there is no returning coolant to the overflow reservoir. 1. The AC system works fine and blows hot air in all conditions. 2. I changed the thermostat and the still have the issue. 3. There is no leak in the system. 4. The fan starts slow when on 97°C and goes faster as the temperature raises. 5. Sometimes there is bubbles in the returning hose of the overflow tank. But when I give it a rev up I can see a steady stream of water and if I lift my foot from the pedal the water stops getting into the overflow tank for a while and then starts getting intermittently before it continues as a steady stream with some intermittent bubbles. 6. I did the air bleeding and still the same. 7. Changed the pressure cap of the tank and still the same then returned the original one and the issue still remains. The car performs very well even in high temperature and there is no knocking, no hesitation, accelerates normally. Note: when driving in low speed the is ok, once I go highway and drive for about 10 km and stopping for a jam it starts to overheat as and the fan goes very fast. I got the message AC of because of Engine overheating. Thanks already on your help Best Regards.

Jaafar Muhammad Thanks for watching. Let’s get this figured out together. You mentioned that you replaced your thermostat...Awesome! The next part it may be is your actual water pump. This water pump is a GM recall part. This means you can contact your local Chevy dealership and provide them the last 8 digits of your VIN #. The Chevy dealership will inform you if your car qualifies for a 100% free water pump replacement and new coolant. We recommend contacting your local Chevy dealership to ask them about the pump. Hi! I have a 2016 Chevy Cruze LT. I’m CONSTANTLY having to put coolant in this car. We’re going through at least 3 a week. We were told it’s a coolant leak but that was it. If we wanted more answers it would cost us $300 and the price to fix whatever they find. I feel like the issue is one of the many Chevy Cruze issues but I can’t figure out which one. When we’re parked for a while the coolant does come out the car. There’s also smoke coming from the car from time to time and you can smell the coolant. Do you have any idea what this could be or where we should start? I’ve used your videos to save hundreds on simple repairs.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders4 жыл бұрын
Ashley Lee Thanks for sharing your experience Ashley, let’s get this figured out! The Cruze unfortunately is notorious for coolant issues...👎 Going through that much coolant is not normal. Have you pinpointed the exact location of the leak? If yes, let us know where it is leaking from. This will help us figure out what part or parts need to be replaced to get that coolant leak solved. If you have not pinpointed the leak, we recommend starting your engine and allowing your engine to run for 20 minutes. This will allow your engine to reach its normal operating temperatures. It will also allow your coolant system to pressurize. At this point, do your best to look all over the top and sides of the engine and try to locate any signs of coolant leaks. If you locate a leak, definitely let us know where it’s leaking from so we can help figure out your next step. Let’s start there, keep us posted Ashley. 😎👍🔧🔩

All hoses feeding below Reservoir Tank leading to the 3-way connection point close to the center of firewall. Let’s start there, keep us posted! John Whitefoot Thanks for the reply. The best way to check for leaks is to allow engine to run & get up to normal operating temperatures. Once heated up, the Coolant System builds pressure & as it pressurizes, you will have a good opportunity to inspect engine for leaks. Be very careful because as you know, the Coolant will be hot. Do not loosen reservoir tank cap until after the engine has been off for at least 3 hours. 😎👍🔧🔩

It came with a "new sensor" but it was not a gm part. Im not sure if the new sensor was bad or if it didn't work because it wasn't a gm part. I ended up swapping the used sensor back in and viola! AC was back and CEL was gone.

Hi Mike, Great video. Question....A few days ago the AC stopped blowing cold. The compressor is not locked but does not turn on. Since then I have been driving the car and noticed the radiator fan never comes on. Yesterday I got the same error on my dash Ac off due to high engine temp and I did notice the fan kicked on high and once the temp went down it clicked off. It did this a couple times and it did it today as well. I did notice it was indeed hot as the coolant was bubbling boiling. About 6 month ago we replaced the thermostat. Any suggestions?

DIY With Michael Borders the plot thickens! As I was driving it, the temp gauge then started registering a temp (even though it’s lower than it should be) again. When I arrived at my destination, I turned it off, then turned it back on and I didn’t receive a “a/c off, overheat” on my cluster, and the a/c was working. How hot should the thermostat housing be? It wasn’t as hot as the water pump but it wasn’t cold either. The rad hose leaving the thermostat wasn’t hot. But a few minutes after the car being off, the therm was hotter, as as was the rad hose. Could be thermostat and the sensors are bad. In any case, your handy vid on replacing the thermostat may come in handy too! Thanks for responding!

I just replaced my thermostat and thermostat housing (all metal Dorman product) and I also replaced my throttle body heater inlet pipe (as it broke when I replaced the thermostat and housing). When I start my car and drive, the engine temperature gauge doesn't register and my radiator fan is often running on high. It appears I am still leaking coolant out of the bottom passenger side of my radiator. The coolant leak is not extreme, I can drive a few hours before my coolant gets too low. I am concerned about this and my temperature gauge not registering. Any suggestions?

Steven Smith Thanks for watching & we hope you enjoyed the video. It’s very common for your lower sensor that is connected to the bottom left portion of your radiator ... if you’re standing in front of the car looking at the engine...(Driver side right passenger side left)...to leak. The sensor itself is not really held in and secured as strongly as you would think. There is a rubber gasket and a small aluminum clip that secures that sensor and overtime the rubber gasket warps, shrinks, & just wears out.... your leak may be coming from a failed rubber gasket... or your aluminum clip came loose and you will need to apply pressure to the sensor to insert it back inside the radiator to align the clip in order to be able to lower the clip into it securing slots. Let’s start there! Many more helpful videos to come. Let us know if you have any questions. In response to some comments I have read from folks about relays, etc. General motors does not MAKE these sensors they use in their cars--almost no manufacturer does, they are made by parts comapnies around the globe for them (many cases even stamped with a mufacturer logo), but still not made by them--not cost effective.. This is why you will find your Rockauto/Autozone,etc. parts look so very similar to the OEM part minus the OEM part number on them.. Save yourself a few bucks sometimes and be happy... Cars in 2022 are not the old school cars that were made from parts all made by manufacturers in the USA.. Infact most of your parts come from Canada/Korea/India/China/Japan,Mexico,etc. and your NEWER American car was only "assembled in America"... Take look around the door jambs of that new Truck you just bought so proud of because it is American made--only to see a Canadian "leaf" sticker or more and made in Mexico, etc. all over parts on the engine etc... They might as well say American "made" vehicles are "Trans-national" anymore.. :( Once Detroit died--it all went outsourced... :( Anyway, Rock auto does still have some vendors who are AMERICAN companies making quality parts under other names than GM/ AC DELCO.etc. APM is one in Atlanta Ga who makes pistons etc. and many other parts of good quality far beyond China made trash.. But not marketed under APM.. its an off label brand for example.. --be wise and shop carefully!! :) Great video!!! --you earned a new subscriber tonight!

My 2012 chevy Cruze just overheated the other day. Took it to the Chevy dealership and they replaced my thermostat and I’m assuming the sensor as well. A few months prior I also repaired a leak in the coolant housing unit and everything was fine until this week. Long story short, on my home from the dealership the engine temp needle maintained in the normal zone for about 5 miles and then the ac off engine temp high dash light came on and the needle immediately went to red. Pulled over popped the hood and the engine was hot and the fan was running, but there was no steam or any signs of a leak anywhere. I let it cool down for approximately 20 minutes and drove it home fine for about 15 miles no issues. As soon as I pulled into my driveway the same thing happened again. I just spend a lot of money on the repair and it doesn’t seem to have helped. Any idea?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & you may have a faulty sensor. There are 3 sensors tied to your coolant system. 1. Water Outlet Sensor 2. Radiator Sensor 3. Thermostat Sensor... which is installed inside your thermostat that the dealership recently replaced. Thanks for watching, this time of year seems to be pretty hard on Cruze owners. Any snow or ice buildup inside wheel-well can cause havoc on the speed sensors. Moisture can sneak into the electrical sensor connections and lead to sporadic readings. No real solid fix for this unfortunately however you can lower the chances of this happening by keeping wheel-wells clean of all snow and ice buildup. Easier said then done…stay safe out there. 😎👍

Hello! I have a 2011 Chevy Cruze and about every two weeks, my engine runs hot due to low coolant. I refill the coolant, but in two more weeks, same problem. I’ve been to three mechanics and they can’t seem to find a leak which is odd because there’s a puddle everyday under my car. Please explain to me what is going on somebody? I’ll have to fix it myself which I don’t mind lol. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! 🦃🍁🍽

Thanks for watching & we appreciate you sharing this. Welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Do you see any signs of possible leaking up near your reservoir tank? To test, you will need to allow engine to run and heat up to normal operating temperatures which will allow your coolant system to pressurize. After your coolant system pressurizes, this is a great time to inspect engine compartment for leaks. Unfortunately what can happen is after the engine has been turned off, coolant will be pushed out of the vent line of your reservoir tank as the system cools down and the internal pressure is dissipated. Keep us posted. Happy thanksgiving. Enjoy your night. 😎👍🔧🔩

Marlene Johnson Thanks for watching. Unfortunately this is a common cause & makes you run the rabbit race... Most people replace both radiator and outlet valve sensors as well as the thermostat all at the same time. Replacing these 3 parts almost always fixes the issue. Keep us posted. Hello, I recently changed the water outlet on my 2013 Cruze, the temperature sensor was included. Now I am trying to change the temperature sensor connected to the radiator, I went into autozone to purchase the temperature sensor that goes into the radiator however the rep helping me out wasn’t to sure which one was the correct part. Do you happen to have a part number for the temperature sensor that connects to the radiator? Thank you!

The same error message came up on my 2011 Cruze but the gage inside of my car is not moving to show how hot my engine is. I thought it was leaking coolant but I think it was just a sensor that popped or stopped working. I just got my thermostat fixed last year around this time.

Doricka Menefee Thanks for watching & we hope the video helped. You may just be experiencing intermittent issues due to cold weather. We recommend visiting your local AutoZone and having them reset your Engine light. If it comes back then you know you will have to replace the part that their scanner reads. @DIYwithMichaelBorders4 жыл бұрын
Doug Anderson Thanks for the reply. There are two sensors. Water outlet valve sensor and radiator sensor. In addition, inspect all wiring and wiring connection points. What is your engine temperature reading on the instrument cluster? Is it showing any life... in other words, does the needle move at all as your engine warms up and you drive it or does it stay at zero or cold? Keep us posted.

Good video Michael. As a female, I don't know a lot about cars except putting gas in, windshield wiper fluid and when to get an oil change. I have had new oil filters, the thing in front of the passenger side some hose or temperature gauge, a new thermal housing done and the mechanic test drove my car for an hour Thursday, let it run. I picked it up from his shop around 6 pm today, drove about 8 minutes with the air on because it was 95 degrees and the fan kicked in and the temperature gauge kept going up until it said ac off due to high engine temperature and another code about engine idle. I turned the air conditioner off and still temp gauge going up. I pulled over to a secure and safe area and has the car towed. Any suggestions??? Please help. I am beyond exhausted and stressed out.

If not, your Pump may have failed. What does it mean when it does this immediately after you start it cold (actually it is completely random, incl. temporary self-resolution) and the temp guage stays at zero?
